Photos of Xbox's "Project Kennan"

The black one looks ugly, cheap af, and like somebody has been rubbing it between their ass crack for 3 days and then took a pic without cleaning it.

I now know why people don't like photos of things to leak early.

It's going to be released next to the rumored Xbox branded PC? Two devices at the start of next gen, like in this one but targeting different people?
We will have multiple skus next gen from both Xbox and Playstation and I don't count one having a drive and one not as separate skus here

You are interpreting that slightly different than me. Sounds like a hybrid at most.
That term is only being used to soften the blow of them leaving consoles behind.

I could plug a Mac mini into a TV but nobody would consider it a hybrid. Steam machines were also not hybrids.

That thing looks like they took a Sega Game Gear/Rog Ally/and Xbox buttons and made something.....with extra fingerprints to drive someone nuts

Why does the sticks look like they are stretched and disfigured? Is this a photoshop gone wrong? At first I thought the device survived a fire or a fall. lol

Clearly Asus took their inspiration from this...I do like ASUS, and I think they are on a roll with their ROG products. It does fall inline with Xbox's new imitative. The first thing that came to my head was the old Nintendo GameCube PSO keyboard controller.

Phil: Kennaaaan, your breakfast's ready! You're gonna be late for school.
Kennan: Dad, can I take my Kennan with me?
Phil: Sure, son. That's why we made Xcloud for.
Kennan: Oh dad, you're the best uncle!

Got a link for that? If he said that, I missed it. It seems like it would be huge news.

MS never said, even remotely, that will implement BC via Xcloud. I guess getting information from "suspicious sources" has that effect... 🤷

The only information that exists on this respect is the creation of a team of engineers "for game preservation" on future Xbox devices. And the announcement of creation of this "Game Preservation Team" was made at same time tha Sarah Bond herself announced "the acceleration of development of the next Xbox hardware."
You don't hire engineers for BC if you're only going to offer it via Xcloud 😉

This is from today

From today:

Come help build the next evolution in Xbox Game Compatibility. Join the Xbox Platform team to leverage your system and security engineer experience to secure the future of Game Preservation. Your work will help identify and outline the specific requirements and security boundaries for protecting game content, build scalable emulation solutions, and ensure a safe and fun gameplay experience for all players. Our technology solutions are a critical part of enabling the Xbox goal of allowing players to experience their games on any device.

You will work with other experienced emulation engineers to deliver high quality solutions that not only protect game content but also improve the experience of installing compatible games. You will be a key contributor to the technology solutions developed to emulate legacy games on modern platforms. This will allow you an opportunity for a broad impact across the Xbox and Windows gaming ecosystem.
You will partner with the Xbox Platform Core and Windows Core team to design a security solution to protect game assets from theft, tampering, and cheating. You will design and build solutions that enable system level emulation across the catalog of Xbox content.

This one.

So... Xbox have outsourced their hardware development to Asus or something?
Nop. Thats just a ROG handheld. Anyone calling it an Xbox is reaching. Thers no Xbox logo or brand in it, it says ROG on the screen and had the ROG logo on the back.

Bringing my bc titles onto my windows pc would be freaking legendary. I have a lot of bones to pick with MS but I know this is possible, and I think it would be really cool if they did it.

Didn't see that update.
If it were to dual boot into console mode then they wouldn't need to emulate their games, that's just further proof the next device will be a PC.

And that emulation could still be handled through the cloud as Phil insinuated.

MS/Xbox is outsourcing their consoles...this has been known. That is the entire foundation of their "This is an Xbox" ad campaign.

Its fine that they do this, they have the largest pool of gaming IP in the world at this point. Play everything, play it everywhere, play it on anything.

I don't really care what it looks like. I am interested in how it might perform though. I bought a steam deck a few months ago and it's great.

I thought I would hate the thumb stick placement, but I prefer it now. I really wish Nintendo would release a right joy con with a symmetrical layout.

So is this a Xbox?

To me it is an Xbox if it has a console like experience and its branded an Xbox. So yes this does qualify.

Other people say its not an Xbox because it doesn't play Xbox games and you can't bring your library. Which makes no sense because PS4 didn't play PS3 games and Switch didn't play Wii U games but nobody ever said they were not Sony or Nintendo consoles. They switched operating systems at the start of a new gen, just like Xbox is switching from Xbox OS to Windows for their consoles(or gaming devices that operate exactly like a console if you want to get technical)

What I'm most excited for is updates/changes to Windows to better support handheld. I really want to utilize my GamePass Ultimate sub on my Steam Deck by installing Windows, but the experience isn't that great and SteamOS is miles better.
If part of this Xbox branded handheld coincides with QoL updates for Windows for better handheld mode, that might be what makes me fully switch to Windows on my Steam Deck.

Call it 'Project BOMB' because this hunk of crap is going to bomb the xbox brand even further into the abyss. No one is going to buy this overpriced piece of crap, just like no one is buying the series s/x. Once you decided to go third party, you essentially lost all semblance of consumer faith in your hardware and in your brand.
Sony needs to NOT do this handheld shit either. Way to hold back consoles.

People are aware this is a pre production model right?

They don't treat the plastics the same etc. It's just thrown out the machine for testing purposes.

Oh. Nevermind then.

Hopefully this is an early prototype and not what it will actually look like. Xbox has after all done quite well design wise since the Xbox One S.

I don't like how it looks, but it does seem like it would be pretty comfortable to hold. I wouldn't want it to be like Switch.

I will wait for some reviews and then I will probably buy one.

…it's not a console. It's a PC handheld that runs Steam, GOG, Windows store etc.

It's the next ROG Ally. None of these are meant as major mass market sellers.

What does 'third party' have to do with this? its a PC!

No one is going to buy this overpriced handheld. And if it's not going to sell alot then why make it exactly? Losing money for the sake of losing money makes 0 sense and this thing is going to lose money.

People are going to buy this year's Z2 Extreme handhelds. Could be the new Legion Go, could be the new Ally, could be this one. We'll know when reviews and/or pricing data is announced, or if the Windows UX is really improved for handhelds.

Why would devices with hardware profit margins baked in 'lose money'?
