Photos of Xbox's "Project Kennan"

7", unfortunately

Hmm, well from the photo the display does seem to be around 177mm wide which would be 8", but I guess that's just because it's closer to the camera. 7" would be 155m wide, I wouldn't have thought the perspective would have made that much of a difference but maybe so lol.

This thing is big for a 7" screen. The original ally was 280mm wide, grips have made this one much wider.

Are you using one dimension to calculate overall size without taking into account aspect ratio?

Im too lazy to do it myself, but just checking.

No, I think there are TWO ROG Ally 2 designs.

So it'll be like this:

ROG Ally 2 (cheaper, not Z2 E)
ROG Ally 2 Z2 Extreme
ROG Ally 2 Xbox Edition (Z2 Extreme)

similar to the first gen release where we had the Z1 and Z1 Extreme variants of the ROG Ally.
Although the article doesn't specify it, it's probably as you say. That said, in my response, I was referring to the difference between the black and white editions. They're totaly different, and not just "the Xbox brand," as the user said.

"We also have a partial spec revealing that the Black Edition appears to be a much higher end spec system... the White model, on the other hand..."

Damn.....is this thing a massive finger print magnet or were 10 people trying to play the thing at the same time?
Jizz Curdled, CuckEatswood and Tom Whorren said it's the most sexy piece of hardware Xbox has done ever after rubbing it with their 21 rubby things. 😎🤲🏻🥒

I've actually only ever heard of handheld rumours(partner and official model(s)).

What's the PC rumour?
It's the official console replacement.
Can find info on it here:

Remember when the main talking point of the PS5 handheld was that it was ugly and then people got to actually use it and loved the ergonomics?

These people who want to sacrifice practicality for looks shall not be taken seriously.

You are interpreting that slightly different than me. Sounds like a hybrid at most.

Looks like my rog ally.

Prepare to dish out atleast 800$ if that's what Xbox is doing.

Agree with you there. How the thing looks goes out the window the moment you hold it. Ergonomics is king for handheld devices.

It's embarrassing how highly people view the aesthetics of a hunk of plastic.

You don't see tradesmen obsess over the look of a Mikita drill. You don't hear truck guys obsess over the look of a F150. Guys want function.

YEah, it's a ROG ally with odd looking handles. I guess it might be more comfortable, but I am not convinced based on these images.

I need to sell my OG rog ally ASAP. lol
So it's just a Xbox branded ROG ally? Weird.

And I'm the quite opposite, the handles looks weird and could potentially be in the way. Maybe.

I'm guessing it will feel like you're holding an Xbox controller in your hands. Should be very comfy if that's the case. Not interested in dropping $800 on a partner device though.

Handles worked great for the PS Portal so I expect they will work for this. It does make it look weird but if it feels good, who cares?

I don't understand why Jez isn't a banned source. He is so full of shit like all the time it's not even funny.

That being said, 3DO/Surface route is the most logical for MS.

I have no interest in handheld PCs but im curious to see how/if Microsoft makes a lean Windows OS for these handhelds and if itll be possible to use the OS on desktops.
Yeah, this is going to be a tough sell and I wonder what expectations they have, if any.

A custom, user-friendly OS is definitely needed to make this device stand out from the rest. It will be a good device to watch tech channels cover, but actually owning one? Ehhhhhhh.

Isn't that a ROG ? I don't understand

Their hardware team is playing around, with os support (handheld windows) among others, as a form of R & D for their own official Xbox handheld console that launches with their Next gen Xbox (Series S style cheaper alternative replacement to home console), just like the PS6 and the PS6 Portable.

Everything said here is spot on

Everything

Nightmare design. Seriously, why so fugly?

But what matter are the specs. Oh, on another note RIP the guy leaking this as you can make out his face from the reflections.

"Our sources indicate that it won't be quite as cheap as the base model Steam Deck, but it won't be as expensive as the Lenovo Legion Go RRP. It'll be somewhere in the middle, with a base model price range of between $499 and $599 potentially."
~Jez

$800 confirmed

Yeah, not sure what Jez is on. I'd be expecting $799, aligned with the Ally X. Especially if they go with the OLED VRR display like the 2025 Legion Go.

He may be talking about the cheaper variant that's not shipping with the Z2 Extreme.

What's the point of doing a partner one if you are doing an official one?
Because Microsoft has a strange need to over complicate everything when it comes to hardware

How is this complicating anything? its supposed to simplify things, as a launchpad for an improved Windows UX for handhelds.

They'd be silly to hold off until the official one in 2027/28.

Consumers like yourselves are the ones who've chided them over Windows hampering the PC handhelds.

MS is leaving the console hardware, leaving it to 3rd party consolized PC manufacturers to avoid the loses that making console hardware generates to them.

Since many years ago they've been slowly moving to use Windows as their main home gaming platform. For the consolized consoles (both the ones that connect to the tv or the portable ones) they'll release an improved Xbox PC app with a better suited UI to use it in consolized PCs and that maybe now when installing Windows allows you to run it at launch and maybe do some files management or something like that.

This is one of the ugliest thing's I've ever seen and the ROG Ally was already pretty ugly. The modern PC gaming aesthetic in general is pretty gross and I don't think any of these handhelds have ever looked good. It appears Ayaneo and Nintendo are the only people that can make good looking handhelds.

At least those grips will make it more comfortable to hold.

Is Phil the lead designer on this?

Kennan sounds like named after his son.

He doesnt work for ASUS.
This is a licensed third party handheld branded Xbox and "hopefully" running Microsoft's lean gaming focused OS.

Just like the Revolution isnt actually an Xbox product, it licensed but build and designed by some other cats.

looks hideous.
and those have to be devkit specs. 64gb ram doesn't make sense in any other way. that's like %4 in whole steam survey lol
as an example series x devkit has 40gb ram

Microsoft doesn't need new hardware to launch a new handheld UX. There are plenty of existing handhelds that could accomplish that.

Whilst it looks odd, the handles will make it infinitely more comfortable than the current one. The biggest issue here is the screen being the exact same with those huge bezels. blurgh
Yep, having same 7" LCD is disappointing when we already see multiple handhelds with better screen. Hell, Switch 2 has basically an 8" 1080p VRR screen and the thing costs $450.

That's minimum effort approach by Asus.

64GB memory seems insane and more like a DEV kit version. These things do not need more than 32GB surely.
Yep, 8-12GB allocated for VRAM and the rest of 32GB acting as regular memory would be a good match between performance and price. 64GB is unnecessary overkill and even if it exists for to be the "stupid" SKU with 2 or even 4TB and sky high price.
