My E3 Impressions

this years show was pretty underwhelming, and im contemplating whether i should even go tomorrow.

best games of the show in no specific order

Mario Kart
well, it's Mario Kart. it feels like a much more polished version of the 64 game. game had it's own brand new levels, but it also had a seperate cup dedicated to classic levels, that ranged from SNES, 64, Super Circuit, and Double Dash. the map on the second screen is actually the best addition the game has seen in just about forever. since now you can always see who's on your ass, and what you're being attacked with. because of this, whenever you get hit, it's really your own fault. this adds a whole never level of balance to the series that has just never been there before.

the online play was great too. this game easily has the potential to be by far and away the best in the series.

Kirby
bit easy, bit hectic, but mega fun. once you get the flow down, it just becomes a really great action game.

Meteos
best puzzle game to come out since ChuChu Rocket. well....Lumines aside. it's really awesome though, and super mega frantic.

Sonic Rush
biggest suprise for me. i haven't really liked any of the sonic games since part 3. thought the advance games were pretty cool, and Pocket Adventure was awesome though.

anyways, this is easily the best sonic game i've played since Sonic 2. it's easy, but it's everything you could want out of a Sonic game. this is what Sonic should be in every sense. it's just really awesome. if you like classic Sonic, this really is as good as it gets from what i played. the new Klonoa style bosses were cool too.

Advance Wars DS
it's what you'd expect, but i gotta say, this game easily had the most natural controls out of anything that i played at the show. you breezed through everything without thinking once.

Mario Bros
awesome. it's defininitely different from anything else 2D in the series, but has its own thing going on, but still feels hardcore like 2D Mario. more of an emphasis on long distant jumps, but there's a lot of super hair pin jumps now. power ups and lever design felt a lot like Super Mario Bros for the most part.

over all, i think the current engine they have going on would best make for a Mario World sequel, but im sure they'll try something completely new, and im all for that. but yeah, without really going into detail, this one is coming along very very nicely.

Animal Crossing
something about this game just didn't look right to me for some reason. but everything else about this is everything you could possibly want, and could ask for out of a sequel.

Mario Baseball
lots of fun, and takes me back to the days of Baseball Simulator, and Baseball stars.

Castlevania
oh baby, there's no way this one isn't going to deliver.

Top Spin 2
looked like a current gen game for the most part, but the physics definitely felt noticeably better. on a side note, the 360 controller feels great, and over has an excellent design. my only complaint would be the D-Pad. could use something better. size is fine though.

Zelda
was really awesome, and not what i was expecting. the fighting engine has been revamped, and fighting almost has more of a beat em up feel to it, in a sense that beat downs are very very satisfying, and you can get really good combos with different types of attacks. graphics were great, on horse battles control, feel, and over all are just really fun to do.

over all though, was probably the most boring E3 i've ever been too. in my eyes, DS easily had the best game line up from all the systems.

didn't really care for the swag this year, or lack of i should say. best thing i got was the Mario Kart stylus and Zelda shirt, but i didn't really try to get anything this year.

i got some cool pics though.

i didn't really get to chat with naka. he was on the phone so i didn't want to bother him. will wright and i walked down the street for a bit. i asked him about next gen, he said he's interested in what Nintendo's doing, and that he's rooting for them out of the 3 companies.

i actually got to chill with Nagoshi for a get 10-15 minutes talking about next gen. he said he thinks DS is so-so, he likes Revolution, and that he's interested in 360. he actually made it seem like he was quite a bit interested in 360 actually. i totally forgot to mention PS3 to him though.

you can tell he didn't mind, but he was struggling way to much with the english, so i just left him alone pretty fast.

anyways, yeah, that's about it.

so you spent your eee playing only games on nintendo branded consoles, is this meant to make things better?
no, i checked out everything that was there.

you ask anyone that went, and im positive that they'll tell you the show was just very underwhelming, and didn't really have anything good going on for the most part.

crap, like many, i still can't come up with a game of the show, just because it's so hard to find something that feels worthy of it.

there wasn't really anything new.

I think that's about as cool as I've ever seen Will Wright look in a photo -- you should send him a copy of it.

As for his Nintendo partiality, last E3 I saw him asking questions about Animal Crossing in the upstairs DS area in the Nintendo booth. And after Iwata's GDC keynote this year I overheard him talking to Bill Trinen about Electroplankton. Then of course there's his famous meeting with Miyamoto...

If you ask me, he's a Nintendo sleeper cell.

You haven't been graced by the divine sight of Black yet. It's understandable.

Is it just me or Naka just hates people? That fucker never smiles in pictures with other people.

that's because us mortals with no ferraris are unworthy.

or it could be because he has bad teeth

I actually saw him hanging around MS booth...wouldnt be surprise if he is going to announce a 360 game anytime soon. :)

thanks for the impressions!

great to hear about mariokart, can't wait. so you played it online? was there any lag?

what was your overall view of the next gen stuff on the show floor? was it the same with better gfx, or did it have a new feel, with innovation?

He's apparently known for diving over a cubicles and strangling programmers who say anything bad to him. :lol

Best game?

Awesome, you're definitely one of the more interesting posters around here, keep it up!

no lag what so ever. they had a booth set up where you could play against charles martinet in new york.

i beat him, and didn't get the mario kart prize like they were giving out at the other booth. but i guess cause it was less people competeing in this one.
