Based on all of the "post a picture of yourself," topics I've seen on GameFAQs, a fedora ponytail guy is not the embodiment of that site.
Really I don't even know where all of the fedora ponytail people come from. The entirety of the internet lambasts that fashion style now, if they supposedly live on the internet then you'd think that they would have realized that.

The problem with fedoras is the same as with most non universally compatible clothing:
- Not everything looks ok or flatters your body type. It would be like me trying to wear an dress with spaguetti straps while having wide shoulders, or a jacket with shoulder pads on a inverted triangle body shape.
- Certain clothing items need to match with the rest of the combination and not clash. A fedora is not something that can be matched easily, unless you want to look like a clown.
But I guess I don't know anymore what a "gamer" looks like. I know that there are a few guys at the office that fit a partial stereotype of overweight and always wearing jeans and gaming related tees, plus the IT department looking like the Blizzcon. I tend to be pretty stealthy about my hobbies and act like I don't understand a lot on the topic.

The thing that shocks me most is that this thread isnt closed. Is it a joke thread OP? Serious question. Despite the fact that I too loathe to come into contact with certain types of hygiene-lacking folks that epitomize one of several stereotypes (not just "gamers"), I don't see how it's ok to create a thread to anonymously bully said people. Being a nurse makes me acutely aware of people's hygiene when I am in public, so I get you and others in that respect, but bullying is never ok.
I mean if he had attacked you verbally or something I could see the discussion. And if he does truly share the views of the more negative "gamer gaters" then maybe there's a discussion there. But hygiene and choice of clothing are not points for discussion, at least not with other people to talk ABOUT the person, rather than TO them, politely.
To OP and everyone else who thinks it's ok to bully any subculture, maybe consider how you felt or would feel when/if you became the target of ridicule.
To OP: If you had created a thread bullying certain other types of people, ones less widely accepted as ok-to-bully, you probably would've been shut down instantly. Maybe next time, if you're serious here, think about what you post before creating a thread just to belittle someone. Your OP was pretty bare bones, but the whole "shut the fuck up" thing gave you away, as did your subsequent posts.

I can't say that I've seen the fedora type just yet. What I have seen:
- the young 20-something who is convinced that they know everything and anything about a particular retro game or system because they once read about it in a book, while you yourself owned one back in the day. We were filming at EGX once and this little twerp kept on cutting in with his 'expert opinions' all through the segment.
- the younger, early teen gamers who must have everything and anything gaming related. They scream over Mario shirts (what is it with young teens and screaming?) and gush over an Assassins Creed Wallet because they are gamers (damn it) and must wear gaming related clothing otherwise they're not true fans...damn it.
Then again I'm a grumpy old git gamer so we probably have a stereotype of our own. That said, nothing beats anime 'otaku' or manga fans. Fuck me sideways, these guys get on my tits quickly enough. Ex wife and I were at an anime/gamer/geek convention years ago and she picks up this drawing of a supposed Japanese high school class room. She commented to me how it looks nothing like the real thing and out of nowhere, this gang of teenage girls start yapping away. They watch anime so they know what Japanese high school class rooms look like, they read manga, they have seen these drawings before and thus my ex and I were wrong.
Ex is Japanese and went through school in Japan and I taught in a Japanese high school for ten years but hell, what do we know right?

I'm glad these dorky folks have found each other so they can let their inner dorks out, but there are some things you just don't share outside your geek circle.
I laugh at how much I probably look like some of the more maligned stereotypes on here. I have Fedora I've worn for years though its got sentimental value so I don't really care if anyone thinks when I wear though I do think I pull it off well. Though right now I've got a man bun going on with a beard! Though I work out and I'm in shape so I guess I've got that going for me.
