He is CLEARLY the third wheel behind Todoroki and Midoriya; this is even explicitly said at times. It's why he's so angsty all the time whenever those two are doing their rival thing. I don't know how you could have missed it.

Todoroki
never went all out on Midoriya, he used his other arm, he didn't go all out. That's what pissed Bakugo off. It's like you missed the entire Final Exam arc.

Agreed with everything but the bolded. Most of the class knows that Deku's got some impressive power, but not the skill or control needed to use it effectively. Bakugou really is on another level in terms of sheer combat prowess. He won (or was on the cusp of winning) the fight in this episode, he got outplayed because he lost sight of the actual rules and tried to turn it into a simple brawl.

Also, I find Todoroki a little less interesting.

Slight manga spoilers:

Full Cowl Deku could beat him imo

Not really.
Todoroki and Midoriya's interactions have been pretty limited even if it's clear a friendly rivalry has formed. A few bits of jealously don't change the fact the story always sees fit to pair up Midoriya with Bakugou more than Todoroki as was made clear with the All Might test and even the moment Bakugou gets captured. And then there's the whole rescue arc. The story definitely doesn't treat him like the third wheel and every attempt at making him likable has failed consistently despite the rest of the cast growing some minor respect for him for some asinine reason.

I'm really not sure what about Bakugou confuses or bothers people. Is it all really down to that, admittedly, shitty suicide joke near the start? Bakugou is the kid who was consistently told he was hot shit his entire childhood and bought into his own hype, turning him rotten. That's like a thing you see in real life all the fucking time. There's also no question that most of the cast see him as a hot-head or an asshole even if they respect his talent or show concern from him as they would any ally/classmate/student. Like you can want to help someone and still think they are a piece of shit, its not the same as excusing or ignoring their terrible behavior. It also seems like it would be a better idea to try to push a problematic but talent kid onto the right path than abandon them and risk them actually falling into the "dark side".

We're reading different manga apparently. Luckily I can cite sources: Last two pages of Chapter 39. I brought the receipts, go read them.

I started watching this last week and I'm quite enjoying it so far. It's not excessively original and the pacing is a bit slow (which is weird considering it's only a 13 episode season), but it's been enjoyable so far. The characters are quite likeable, I like the different powers on display and the short fights we've had, and the art and animation are good.

This thread doesn't seem better than the JJBA thread, though, with manga readers name dropping people that haven't even been introduced yet and stuff like that. Only this time I haven't read the source material so it annoys me more.

I thinks it's because of impatience seeing new people disregard the anime's story and characters when they know that it's really good and gets better. So I apologize on behalf.
I do however recommend reading the manga, as its really good and the art is stellar. It doesn't feel like a long read to catch up since the pacing flows from arc to arc quickly without feeling rushed. At least that's my opinion and suggestion anyway.

This show has the pacing of a 26 episode anime yet its only 13. Makes be believe they planned for 2 cours but the scheduling fucked them. This pacing is better for the show overall, but it does suck that we'll have to wait a year potentially before we get to see when MHA starts getting really good.

It's ridiculous how good the OST for this show is. It's above-average shounen fare but the soundtrack is propelling the whole thing into the stratosphere.

I thought the "Hero/Move Without Thinking" theme they've used since Ep. 2 and at the end of the episode here was going to be the standout, but the theme that started up when Bakugou fired off his gauntlet-thingy ("Bakugou's Theme?") was amazing, too.

Even the zero-gravity girl got a spunky little ditty for a couple seconds.

It's going to be studying music, for sure

Since it played during the intro and the training montage, I don't think it's for anything

This is only 13 episodes?

BatDan

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
I thought it was a Soul Eater reference considering its Bones

Considering Kohei Horikoshi is a total westaboo, including a display of Spider-Man figures in his home, the reference was likely intentional.

Yep, though no doubt we will get a second season since this manga is Jump's biggest rising star at the moment (in a time that they are really just left with OP and Haikyu as a big sellers).

The pacing of this series is really throwing me off for sure, I'm super happy about it but man does it feel like a 26 ep show/season run rather than 13. Well at least with this pacing it should end at one of the coolest spots in the manga.

Man they could sped this episode up a lot, I like the show but damn that was almost some Naruto level padding

In Naruto they would have gotten lost in all those samey looking hallways with a promise from the producers that they'd find their way out "sometime this year."

This.

Dude's got a massive superiority complex that has basically gone unchecked for his entire life. Even the slightest possibility of Midoriya possessing a power that surpasses his pushes him over the edg and it's because it threatens his identity as the "the best dude ever™"

I actually like that he's like that. This anime is filled with "good" people, so it's nice to get someone who's a vitriolic piece of shit.

I still want Midoriya to beat the fuck out of him at some point. That boy needs an assbeating

Very satisfied how this early rival fight was handled.

that look on Bakugo's face when he realizes that Deku truly was the better hero, and that his attack could have easily killed him

Now show Frog Girl in action already!

Episode 7 soooo goooood.

But it's already easy to see the argument people had about Bakugo having all the traits of a villain, but the author not willing to have him being one and instead playing him like an anti-hero.

It would be cool and anti-stereotypical if he actually made him a full fledged villain.

Nah, I disagree. That wouldn't be anti-stereotypical, that would just be stereotypical.
Bakugo is an interesting character, because he's a little shit with a an inflated ego the size of a mountain, but has the talent to back it up and everyone knows he's a little shit, but he still is determined to tread the path of a hero.

I feel compelled to watch this

Don't. The only thing Phantom World has going for are pretty visuals and maybe 2 or 3 good episodes, otherwise it's just bland and pandering trash.
