I really like this part:

I like to think it has something to do with the show’s ability to reach a certain level of cute without crossing that line over into schmaltzy or sugary. Its funny because the people suffering them, Italians, and people that suffered them in the 80's-90's, like Spain, hate them, but some people that never suffered that style now love it.
