Marvel and DC make references to things all the time, and they do it a lot more directly than... whatever the hell that is (or at least they used to, I haven't read comics in a few years).
It's really easy to draw random characters into crowd scenes or backgrounds, or to put recognizable logos on coffee mugs, t-shirts, posters... anything that can be used to inject personality into the world they're drawing.

Ahem. I'd like to formally request a dramatic increase in the amount of Gilda pictures, anthro or otherwise, that are posted in this thread. I'll let them have their fantasy realms. The moment they try to give Twilight a love interest or boyfriend/girlfriend in the actual show though? I will never watch this show again and will never post here again except to insult it. That's a promise.
