Hasbro is going ham right now. For no reason mind you.

1st it was that thing with that purple thing that completely undermines everything about the show's integrity and Lauren's vision so you can do what you wanted to in the first place, sell toys.

Now they're on a rampage to "protect the IP" which is what they have to do but some of these projects could use a hand and instead you're killing them.

I will not say another word about Derpy because that's the worst blow of all. Derpy was our "representative" in the world of Equestria and to just do that to her just shows me that you don't really care about those outside the demo you've acquired but to sell toys to those little girls which I can't really fault because that's your job.

I hate to say it but I might be done too. I just don't like where this is going. I might change my mind or I might not but we'll see.

AND IF LAUREN FAUST OFFERS YOU SOMETHING THEN YOU TAKE IT, DON'T QUESTION IT AND JUST ROLL WITH IT!!!

Lauren...have my babbys. Take all my monies. immediatement!!

That if Hasbro had a problem they probably wouldn't have waited two years to do something about it? Well at least Double Rainboom squared their project away with Hasbro's legal department before they started.

I was always expecting an end run. You can't trust corporations without a legal agreement, and they will even tell you as much. If inaction was counted as consent, that's craziness.

I really hope they go with the OC option. And even give a cutie mark and color editor option, so you can make your own. That would get people paying to play I bet. Or at least the donations would pour in. They need to keep more contact with their supporters too.

Well, since they built the game on Fighting Maker, it would still mean to start all over again, since there's practically nothing of their work they can reuse. But still, it's a great move by Faust, of course.

Hrm..I dunno if they can't re-use that stuff...They need to play things fast and loose, and just cut some of these people off at the pass I think. The lawyers are certainly trying to do it.

Yup, I think I see a new path here.

1) Strip out all of Hasbro's content (voices, cutie marks, text) from Fighting is Magic.
2) Finish the mechanics of the game. Release it as "Horse Fighter 3000".
3) See that the removed content gets "leaked".
4) Wait a day or two for the community to put the removed content back into the game. High fives all round.
5) Start a new fighter with characters by Lauren Faust.

winner.

this is how we had to do it in the old days. The answer was always "no" and we had to make it a "so what". Without the people who did that, we wouldn't have the internet that exists today. It would all be bad bloatware and bad porn.

people say she's not talking about MLP, but her new galaxy girls project, but that makes literally no sense. Plus "Original Characters" has a special meaning in the MLP world. But she can't really be seen undermining Hasbro's moves. I'm counting this as tacit support.

She later replied that she didn't necessarily talk about new PONY characters, but new ones alltogether.

I saw that...but that doesn't make quite as much sense to me. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but my inference engines say she actually means Pony. Maybe she's inviting them to do a totally new collaboration on an entirely different fighting game, but...that wouldn't have the same effect or fans as fighting is magic.

It would be a viable project that would find support somewhere though.

Can somebody explain to me the legal line that Fighting is Magic actually crossed?

I mean, why is fan art okay but a fan game is not?

It got too popular and well known.

Fanart isn't really "okay", so much as companies don't put forth the effort/money required to take action against it due to volume, but individual projects are easier for them to target.

None of them. It's uses MLP universe and characters that Hasbro owned. But game is free and non-profitable, I see no way to shutdown them using legal statements. If so, that every fanfic must be burned, or author will end in jail.

I think this letter is just: "Sended because it's our job", from hasbro layers department and can mean nothing.

Part of the reason FiM fandom was so great was because we didn't like the show in spite of the creator's intentions. We got to talk to the creators, they let us in on little secrets, they made things specifically for us (Derpy, etc) based on what the fans did, even giving nods to "Bronies", which by their franchise history shouldn't even really be a thing.

But now it's become "You can keep buying it, but you're not supposed to." Now they're slamming doors in the faces of fans after years of holding them open, because after years of success, somebody's decided they have to lock this franchise down.

There's no way they haven't known about Fighting is Magic for a long time now. I'm sure they've been asked dozens and dozens of times about it. Letting them go on with it for years, and THEN kicking them in the face? You're not defending your brand at this point, you've known about this for a long time now. What are we supposed to think?

I made stuff!
I made a Wonderbolts poster!

Took me a while to get it done, but here it is. Turned out way better than I thought it would, even if I can see a few things I could have done smarter. Ah well, lesson learned for next drawing.

Great work. Having seen the progress of this piece, I am very pleased to see that you managed to make it work wonderfully, within the limitations dictated by your relative lack of experience. Starting with borderless illustration and having the need to establish shape and volume with the exclusive use of shadows is a daunting task, but you definitely passed the test, and now you have nowhere to go but up. :)

Looking forward to your next work!

Meanwhile, I'm not sure whether to post this here or in the furry thread (so I'm posting in both), but I drew an illustration featuring anthro versions of PonyGAF's two favorite OC's. I hope I won't be scaring many people away.

I am now working on something for our very own Nobodyspatzy, and I'm very pleased to say that I received my very first request for a commissioned work. I guess all these months of skill acquiring and honing are paying off, even if very modestly. :)

I want it to be fake, but it makes way too much sense for Hasbro to want something to compete with stuff like Monster's high...

im confused, is it a spin off or a reboot?

if its a reboot, then im mad, and i might give it a shot but it prolly wont be any good.

if its a spinoff, then who gives a fuck, as long as the main show is still around. we can watch the movie, laugh at it and then ignore it.

why would The Hub and Hasbro put all this time, money, merch and hype into this season finale just to retcon it all into a teen highschool drama.

maybe this will be just a pilot, and if it tanks it wont go anywhere.

im hoping this is a spinoff series.

Officially, it's a made-for-TV movie intended to "launch a new IP" that targets an older audience.

Considering that Transformers and MLP are heavily supporting Hasbro Studios, it seems likely that they're going to follow this "launch" by giving this new IP a new show on The Hub. I can't imagine that they're going to try and kill the current MLP to make a new one, they'll want to have two MLP shows running.

People are just pessimistic because it's Hasbro, and they seem to be trying to kill off the older audience. From a pessimistic point of view, it's obvious that Hasbro is going to ruin MLP in an attempt to gear it towards the audience they just killed, at which point MLP will die and Hasbro will wonder what went wrong.

First things first. I follow the fandom because I find it fascinating, but I also see it as an endless source of meltdowns, drama and stuff. (Ok, I like the music too)

With that said, come on!
Seriously, this is beyond mean, it's almost evil!

Yeah, what's been bugging me is that people are so quick to forget what Hasbro had done for the fans. We've got tons of official merchandise (with Derpy even) , acknowledging fanon, an official comic (which I still need to read) , and more episodes on the way. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little worried and concerned, but I'm hardly worried.

The only thing that bugs me about a humanized spinoff in that artwork are the colored coordinated skin tones and the idea that there being an official human look to the characters might put a stop to all the wonderful and varied fan art interpretations (which I love)

There's no goodwill in any of that, just an opportunity for money.

I think someone described it best as Hasbro saying "We don't want you watching this show, but we'll take your money".

And I'm not sure if I dislike the coat skin colors because they're ugly, or like them because it means the social justice brigade won't whine that they didn't make them the way they like them/brag if they did.

EDIT: Just saw this shot from Toy Fair, which doesn't look half bad.

tumblr_mi0y2zTTHg1qa2r95o1_500.jpg

omg their adorable.

i said i wouldnt buy any more toys. :(

When it's just an episode that people watch, no way, but when we can exploit it for $$$, sure.

I await whatever name they've chosen that will ruin everyone's happiness at getting a toy version and hearing a bunch of trolls smugly repeat it over an over again knowing it will upset fans.

And the irony of all these decent quality plushies coming out and exciting people right after they were angry over the recent events is not lost on me.

i never cared about the Bronydoc, or the fighting game, and as long as they dont fuck up FIM they can have their weird human fanfic show.

I AM NOT A CONSUMERIST WHORE DAMN IT!

IM NOT.

i am :(

I think I'm just optimistic enough to believe that they're trying to avoid another Derpygate at all costs but try to appease the fans in some other way (otherwise you'd be calling AKR a big fat liar about her talks with The Hub and Hasbro) . I mean the bag pictured above seems to be WLF's bag without Derpy printed on it. I can't believe they would be so against Derpy and Bronies if they're willing to make merchandise of her.

But yeah I can see them coming up with a name that every fan will hate and it'll be the next big drama.

I've been meaning to get into that show for years now, but for some reason never bothered.

Maybe now that I need a new cartoon to enjoy...

I remember some of the dramas from that fandom though, even without watching.

I'm not really involved with the fandom, but the show is nice.
