I thought it'd be interesting to see how the seasons stack up in my rankings, counting two-parters as two episodes.
Tier 1:
S1: 3
S2: 8
S3: 0
Tier 2:
S1: 7
S2: 3
S3: 1
Tier 3:
S1: 1
S2: 3
S3: 3
Tier 4:
S1: 6
S2: 6
S3: 2
Tier 5:
S1: 8
S2: 3
S3: 6
Tier 6:
S1: 1
S2: 3
S3: 1
So I have Season 1 as inconsistent but rarely terrible, with the median episode around the middle of the rankings. Surprisingly (to me), Season 2 had more really low-rated episodes, but the median episode was better, and it dominates the top tier. The median Season 3 episode ranks worst, but a significant fraction of them were still pretty good. The average S1 episode is Tier 3.46, S2 is 3.08, S3 is 4.23. The median episode overall is Tier 3 and the average episode overall is Tier 3.46.
It's science.
