How do they earn their bits?

I mean for a couple of them its obvious. Rarity is a fashion designer, Pinkie Pie makes sweets and Applejack sell apple products.

But what about the others? Twilight I guess is getting a student stipend from Celestia to cover living expenses. That leaves Fluttershy who has to buy food for all the animals (especially that picky little Angel bastard) and Rainbow Dash who seem to just snooze on clouds all day.

Is Rainbow Dash on welfare?

At least Trixie had a job........despite the mane six's best attempt to sabotage her career.

Twilight is a full-time student and is likely the town librarian. She lives in the town's library and is the only person there, so I'm gonna say that's her job.

Rainbow Dash is in charge of weather in Ponyville. Pretty sure that's established canon. She probably works on contract. I imagine that individual towns tend to hire experienced pegasus ponies from Cloudsdale. She snoozes alot, but that's just because she gets everything done so fast. 10. Seconds. Flat.

Fluttershy probably gets government grants and/or serves as a professional animal consultant/specialist/caretaker. There's no way her experience does not generate funds.

Rainbow Dash fills the sky with clouds (manufactured in Cloudsdale), and clears the sky of those clouds, and uses those clouds to make rain/snow. She appears to be the highest ranked weather-control officer in Ponyville, because she was told when Ponyville was chosen for the honor of refueling the cloud factory, and she can declare "mandatory" meetings to be attended by her entire Pegasus race (regardless of their other jobs), and force them into labor, organized by herself.

And Rainbow Dash is usually overqualified for her position. She can afford to sleep on the job and blow off emissaries from the supreme ruler (Twilight), because she can clear the sky in ten seconds flat.

Also, the Wonderbolts, in addition to being elite Blue Angel-style performers most of the time and military pilots should the need arise, are also a nefarious propaganda force, showing up to oversee major weather operations and recognize glorious contributions to the state. And Spitfire would apparently rather watch a major weather operation fail by a margin that's lower than Fluttershy's regular wingpower than sully her wings by participating in the labor she was assigned to oversee.

Seriously. Fluttershy's "puny" wingpower was measured at 2.5. The weather operation was at 795/800 when Fluttershy jumped in and upped her game to 3, leaving a mere 2 wingpower (a sub-Fluttershy measurement) required to complete the job. And Spitfire just sat there on her flank. That might have been acceptable if Ponyville was trying for a world record and Spitfire was trying to stay neutral and objective, but the record was out of the question, and the ponies were just trying to get the job done. Spitfire's position as Rainbow Dash's superior simply meant more to her than the completion of this project. I'd entertain the idea that she actively wanted the project to fail, in order to crush Rainbow Dash's ambitions for becoming a Wonderbolt. She might have even sabotaged the project. Germ warfare.
