uhhh...no.

clothes alone look like textures pasted onto a model, not real folds and creases casting shadows and deforming independently like a real cloth would.

Sorry, it's going to be a while before we see that, unless Sir Galahad plays basketball.

The close ups are sexy, but the animations and camera angles are what really make it look like televised basketball. Even the crap PC port almost fooled me at PAX.

Not to mention the clarity of the background. Still, its better than anything else out there for a next gen sports game, and creasing of clothing will be the last thing you should be worrying about while playing.

the average person thought the nba 2ks of this gen looked real already.

hopefully fix servers and not work with jay-z anymore. oh an actually improve their game the same way they did when nba live was killing them and they put out 2k5 for $30.

I don't get why you would criticize 2K when their games looks leagues and bounds better than their competitors and play better as well.

You should redirect your hate train to the sports games that actually deserve criticism Madden, Live and Fifa. Instead this is the best looking sports game on next gen.

This is GAF. Let the salt flow.

EmptySpace isn't criticizing the look of 2k14. he just pointed out that from a gamer's perspective, it's not "like real life". needs better hdr still. oh, and those faces are great, but EmptySpace just finished beyond two souls on current-gen so while 2k14 faces are impressive...vire gets what EmptySpace means. it's not like only next-gen can pull off those realistic-looking faces.

well EmptySpace doesn't care about those other games. people still play madden? fifa isn't putting quite the effort because they have no competitors. fifa and pes do some things better (and worse) than the other. fifa vita, though. tsk. nhl is still quite good and hasn't sunk like the other ea titles. hopefully 2k14 on next-gen fixes the ever-persistent problem of the dumb teammate ai.

so far. EmptySpace is holding out that title until he sees sony's mlb the show.

2k has been getting soft on improvements to there basketball game for the past few years. This game can look as sexy as it wants to, but if I'm playing on fucking online servers from dreamcast still then it will be all for nothing.

Let's see how the game actually will look when playing a real game and if gameplay is improved over the current gen, that's where the real improvements need to be not with the eye candy, even though it looks really nice.

I really hope EA can deliver on the gameplay side, because 2k needs some competition, maybe we can see a game in 2014 that doesn't launch with the same bugs and issues like a 2010/11 game.....

I uploaded the Gamersyde video, and uploaded it back to youtube with a more fitting soundtrack. I like Phil Collins and all, but bad choice of music IMO easy way out.

Again, this song is not an easy way out lol. This is the song that the Heat have entered the court to for 2 different seasons. Lebron is on the cover... makes perfect sense. The Heat intros are some of the best in the league and have been for many years.

So that Live trailer is coming today- I expect some hilarious gifs!

2k does look pretty mesmerizing. After spending a couple days with 2k14(current gen), the tweaked defensive options are what really feel more balanced than last year's glitz/glam offense.

its this type of over analysis negative thinking on GAF that just kills me, seriously this looks freakin amazing
easily the most visually appealing game on the nex gen line up, (right next to KZ,Forza)

i dont know why people even bother pointing out inconsequential things like that, rubs me the wrong way
especially when its broken a huge visual barrier in the sporting game genre

no folds? pasted textures? creases? wtf why even try look for these things, leave that sort of critical thinking
alone and embrace the great things being shown and quiet frankly, idk, get a freaking grip.

Meh the PC version of 2k14 looks almost as good and is a lot cheaper.

so glad you were hammered for this comment. It offends me how lazy the 2k ports on PC are. Literally, the only available upgrade is anti-aliasing and resolution, the PC is just an afterthought for those assholes.

Because there is always room for improvement. When going for photorealism, It is the sum of little things that matter. The minute anyone brings up "looks like real life," you're pretty much opening yourself to technical discussion. Especially on a board filled with people in the industry or those familiar with graphic fidelity or techniques. You're allowed to both really like something yet give it criticism in areas it lacks in given appropriate context.

Bringing up these things doesn't mean it's bashing the game people given the post he was responding to, lighten up. Always with the fucking extremes on GAF...if you're not praising something, you must obviously be shitting on it.

Since you broke the trailer, allow me to fix it by using....

EVEN MORE PHIL COLLINS

Well I mean, you can think whatever you want. But regardless of if it's the Heat's song a few years ago, I think it's stupid they tried to time feelin it in the air tonight with people dunking and jumping. Just made that song selection way too corny, like it or not just thought it should use a more serious song.

Also everyone saying hip-hop is played out and in every trailer, that's like saying I'm tired of them playing country at every nascar race. It's a huge part of the lifestyle of the NBA deal with it.

In the Air Tonight is often played at stadiums, so I can see the connection.

Overall, I'm not too bothered about the music in a trailer for a basketball game. That''s the last thing I'm going to judge.

Not just the Heat, In The Air Tonight is pretty popular across NBA arenas.

I haven't bought a basketball game since NBA Street on the PS2.

I kinda like my games non-hyper-realistic though. But this looks too good to pass

NBA video-game fans: Is there a chance that any of these games will be even remotely realistic without serious slider customization? Why aren't the baseline sliders at least a decent set for new players let's say? And then when you get really good you tweak stuff (or even better just bump up the difficulty). Given the amount of work put into this, I'm always perplexed that if you play without tweaking the hell out of things (how exactly to do so no one can agree upon) there's stuff like people making 70% 3-pters, 90% of scores being dunks, or the opposite of those just things that are fundamentally and clearly broken regardless of idiosyncracies like player skill level. WHY?

Increasing the difficulty and making longer quarters does the trick for me. I'm honestly not sure what the heck you're talking about.

It's been a while, but I'm fairly confident on default sliders every year there are several major flaws, like all dunks or zero dunks, or shooting percentages just being way off for certain situations. etc. I'm not saying I need the key to perfect realism, which requires a ton of accounting for individual skill issues, but just always surprised by the fundamental flaws baked into the defaults that have to be accounted for via sliders.

2K11 was damn near close to nailing it in terms of sim settings if I remember right. Then enough fan whining caused the devs to patch it. :(
