NBA Live 14 debut trailer- Next gen is here

Thank you for taking Rudy Gay off our hands... (Kyle Lowry is the one pictured, but Rudy Gay's defense is definitely being played.)

*Averages 17 points on 18 shots, Grizzlies get shit on for making trade*

He won't be around long. They're rebuilding the whole team from the bottom-up, so he'll be used to trade for a few promising players.

Looks like he has 3 finger Simpson hands.

Never have I witness such utter and comprehensive annihilation of the competition as this.
I feel bad for the team as I type this...

Hey, It's a start...Competition is good ...people will buy NBA Live just for that reason...This game looks terrible though.

I'm still getting 2K, but I am not seeing why everyone is shitting all over Live. Graphics aren't really the same but the gameplay actually doesn't look that bad and I do like how the dribbling looks. It'll probably get better reviews than everyone thinks.

For the next-gen consoles, I completely reset my expectations for NBA Live and was really hoping for some good competition. When they announced they were releasing it only for next-gen, that sounded great, as you would assume this would allow them to focus solely on the gameplay and graphics increase that should come with new consoles.

After seeing this trailer though, it looks like they took the last NBA Live or even a NBA Elite build and tried to build onto it. I do not see how this is a completely new engine. Not only are the graphics subpar for what we would expect, the animation and player interaction looks....horrible. I hate using that word but this doesn't look good at all.

A week ago, I was still firmly on the fence, awaiting info. Now that we've seen extended trailers for both, it clearly looks like 2K "gets" it while EA does not. Don't mistake me for your normal EA-hater, I love some Madden and play EA games regularly. But NBA Live just isn't cutting it.

Maybe they're using the GPU to run insane physics and AI that's why it looks like this...
I wouldn't mind that. I always thought the 2k bball games look good enough already.Spend all the power they now have into a better physics engine and smarter AI and i''l be happy.

For sure. I'm a huge fan of the GM you guys picked up over the summer. Hopefully, he'll trade Rudy for #datCapSpace or something! Seriously, though, you guys can have Ed Davis back. At the preseason game against Dallas, I watched Dirk pick him up and move him out of the post. You know, kind of like what 2K is doing to Live... XD

I'm glad they're still supporting 360 and PS3. I wonder what an Xbox One or PS4 version of this trailer would look like?

...

What's that you say?

I kind of feel sorry for them. The developers at EA tried to bring NBA Live back, but it's now obvious, they weren't ready for next gen. That trailer looks NBA 2K9-ish.

I don't know if you're a Bill Simmons/Grantland fan, but their Bill and Jalen NBA preview series as been hilarious. Including calling Ujiri a GM/Warlord:

(Edit: And you can keep Davis :p)

2K/Visual Concepts may know the NBA and NFL, but they don't know the NHL, and certainly don't know the MLB.

Visual Concepts picked up the MLB the last 2yrs, trying to build on what blue point messed up, so I would blame visual concepts on that one. The foundation was garbage, and they did improve upon it.

poor EA...

Live 14 doesn't look "omfg bad"..

until you compare it to the OMG trailer for 2K14.

The theories that XBONE was lead platform for Live 14 and PS4 lead for 2K14 don't seem totally without merit given the two trailers.

Ha ha! Yes, I watched that. (They're not wrong... ;-)) I'm not a fan of ESPN by any means, but I certainly don't mind listening to Simmons and Rose. Simmons is hardcore into basketball, while Jalen Rose enlightens us on the clubs he frequented as a player!

I don't understand how the character models and animation can still be so fucking bad. With Madden I can, there''s no competition. But this...god damn

Looks like it's directly iterative of Live 10 which is a good thing, as that was the best one in years.

Animation jank is still visible. It won't be a better option than 2k14, but it leaves some hope for decent competitive a few years down the road.

Hopefully they stick with it. I am not sure EA has the patience to do so.

Wish there was something gamers could do regarding the NFL exclusivity. It's a damn shame they get to make the only NFL game after seeing these "next-gen" sports titles.

If you never read Simmon's book on Basketball, you owe it to yourself. It's amazing (albeit 800 pages long)

I don't associate ESPN to Grantland for some reason.

If they price this at $20-$30 as some sort of "Welcome Back" introductory price then MAYBE they can steal some of the 2K thunder. Especially from those gamers who only casually play sports games.

Reminds me of the 2k5 strategy to get more of an audience.

But in that case, 2k had the better game for years. The lower price point was icing on the cake.

I doubt EA will do this. These are the same people who priced NBA Jam at $50 when it first released, then re-released it for $15. Two separate versions.
