NBA Live 14 debut trailer- Next gen is here

If you never read Simmon's book on Basketball, you owe it to yourself. It's amazing (albeit 800 pages long)

It is! I've read bits and pieces of it. My dad has it, and so he always points out some interesting bits from the book, but I will definitely sit down and read it one day. I am a basketball-junkie, so I'd love to read it!

I don't associate ESPN to Grantland for some reason.

I don't when I'm listening to Simmons, because you can tell he actually watches the games. Then I hear Jalen speak for a minute or two and it kind of brings the ESPN to light! Not that I have a problem with Jalen's commentary, it's just that ESPN's former players are fairly casual when it comes to actually watching the teams play. As opposed to the guys at Turner (NBA TV/TNT - after the merge, they mix and match commentators), who are pretty hardcore (which is why I've always preferred them).

When do you think they'll have competition?

Live 14 doesn't look THAT awful. It looks a little rough, but there are things here that can be built upon. If they stay on this current path and keep steadily progressing, they might could make some noise in the near future.

Knowing EA like I know EA when Live 14 gets beaten badly in sales by 2K14, they'll blow everything up again, and they'll never progress because they are constantly trying to remake the game from scratch.

Is it this?:

Basically EA's response to NBA 2k

Did he... did he die...? Jesus...

Anyone else notice that the people in the crowd have no facial features?

It's a bit Slenderish. It's freaking me out.

EDIT: That GIF above me is mesmerising...

We will soon have another game delayed to 2014 announcement. How EA can be this lazy with machines that are easy to program for and utilize is astounding.

I wonder what 2K could do with the NFL? We can only imagine .... which is a damn shame.

No need to imagine. Play NFL 2K5! Pretty sure that NFL 2K5 could release today and still be more ground-breaking than Madden 25...

for me graphics doesn't matter. I just want to be able to play an association without all players becoming superstars (in 2years) or crap trade logic which happens 2K. If nextgen 2K14 doesn't fix that and Live actually has that cleaned up i'll get Live.

stop with that bullcrap. NFL 2K5 was a good game but Madden became better since last year. Do u even play play Madden or just repeat what others say? PPl that been saying that for the last couple of years are just talking out of their ass now.

... Clearly I was talking with a bit of hyperbole, but that's it. A bit. If 2K was making NFL games, EA Sports would be toast. I've played my share of Madden over the years, yet none of it blew me away in the same way that 2K5 did.

I don't see what the fuss is about here. You guys knew they were going to keep supporting the PS3/360 for years to come, and I think it looks really good for 8 year hardware

Yeah, Shaq, Barkley, Johnson and Smith are the best. Particularly when Shaq does something stupid and they cut to Charles who always has a look of disgust on his face. It's great.

Without 2k graphically it doesn't look bad.. But then everything starts moving and it sets in. Yeah graphics aren't everything but this looks awful to actually play. 2k animation issues are there to keep things looking good and also to prevent as much jank as possible. For better or for worse they actually eased up a lot this year especially with the layups. But this just looks shite.

But I'll wait until a demo or something but sizzle trailers aren't going to do this game any favors. They can redeem themselves a bit if they get the game modes correct. 2k has been lacking on that front for years now. So like If the game is playable and the sim engine isn't broken there is a chance....

Small as shit tho

so thats how they float instead of actually touching the ground(if you remember my close up of chalmers yesterday.)

there Jersey's cause them to float by lifting them up!

As much as I love Nba2K and Live looks like shit, competition works the best for the consumer, so that 2k does not play it safe.

In general.

Now I don't follow NBA games, but wasn't it a long running thing that Live pretty much always terrible compared to 2K last gen and this gen? Also, in the years that Live stopped coming out, didn't 2K put out what was reviewed as like the best basketball game ever either last year or the year before?

Competition is usually the best but all it seems to do for basketball is show how terrible EA is and oddly inhibit 2K from doing their best work.

Definitely underwhelming. Considering how good EA Sports UFC looks. I know there are only two characters on-screen, etc., but that's no excuse.

So, does this mean EA should use the Frostbite 3 engine on sports titles, too? IGNITE has failed to impress so far. Yes, it depends on the developers, I know, but from the looks of it, NBA LIVE 14 will once again be playing second banana to NBA 2K14 and by a long shot, too.

I dunno, the animations themselves look janky and remind me of the PS2 for some reason. Transitioning from dribbling to driving to dunking seems off and not fluid at all.

Also, now that I've noticed it, EA rarely -- if ever -- sends us press releases for NBA LIVE 14. Maybe this is why?

Also, for those asking, from what I know this is a digital title and won't be priced at $60. So there's that, I guess.

Live always had its proponents during the Xbox/PS2 era, and you could put forth a case for Live superiority at that time without people thinking you belonged in a nut house. But Live was a complete grease fire in the 360/PS3 era.

NBA Inside Drive 2004 is the best basketball game ever produced. /videogame basketball hipster
