to me its just pathetic to agree to sign completely and then turn around and say hahahaha fuck you!

It's like watching a team clear room for you, after you agreed to sign, only to you say "you're shit out of luck, I never signed the papers." It could really ruin certain team completely.

it should be a written rule to be honest.

I hope it's illegal.

If nothing has been signed I don't see how the league can somehow force DJ to sign with Dallas if he's really changed his mind. I would imagine maybe they fine the Clippers a draft pick or something at worst, but there is no contract right now between DJ and the Mavs.

The Mavs could potentially be very fucked if DeAndre backs out of the deal. No matter what happens with this, it will be funny.

Chris Paul is joining the recruitment. He probably going to say he is going to change

@ESPNSteinLine: ESPN sources say Chris Paul has been pushing hard to change DeAndre Jordan's mind in recent days and is expected to join today's meeting

omg, hes going back isn't he? You don't give another team a second chance after committing without going back.

Mav's are going to be fucked royally by this, and I wouldn't doubt if a rule gets put into play after these events if he goes back.

I could understand the Clippers desperation though. Losing DJ turns them from a potential contender in the west, to a playoff also-ran. One wasted year like this could cost Doc his job (if Ballmer smartens up) and when you are relying on a guy in Chris Paul who's knees are potentially ticking time bombs, you can't really afford to waste that year.

"Shouldn't be surprised Doc trying to talk DeAndre out of verbal agreement... Same guy who thought it was okay to talk way out of signed one."

You know what they say about dating cheaters...

Don't think it's actually against any rules, just fucked up. Free agency is basically done for Mavs, they have all that money tied up with DJ, and now it all may get reversed. Sets a bad precedent that could bring some kinda rule change.

The Clippers are now the model "What If?" franchise. They could potential snatch DeAndre away and they swooped in when Paul's trade to the Lakers was denied. What a crazy couple years.

I don't understand why there is this period in the off-season where players can verbally commit to a deal but aren't allowed to sign off on it.

DeAndre should tell them to go bleep themselves for not realizing how important of a piece he was until just now.

I think they just underestimated Dallas's recruitment. They assumed he was coming back because he was so close with most of the team aside from CP3 and they could offer him over money than anybody else.

You can always count on Doc to bitch about something.
Edit first time ive heard this kind of situation in the nba but im not really surprised its happening to dj.. Like there is really no upside in signing with the mavs if you're DJ. Being the future face of the franchise? :mjlol he aint all that.

It seems like they're just going to mirror Dallas's pitch about hiring a big man coach and free throw coach, I doubt he buys them trying to sell him on being a star over cp3 and Blake tho.

Apparently the Clippers are talking to DeAndre directly and going around his reps who are friendly with Cuban. Everything about this seems extremely shady.

Please don't go, DJ. :(

I know what you mean, but man everything about this situation seems shady now. Dallas used his agent to convince him to go, the Clippers took the situation for granted (likely because of personal discussions with DJ that made it seem like he was staying), the Clippers then try to fight sneaky with possibly even more sneaky by doing a direct meeting with DJ without his agent... everything about this is just messy and will likely lead to free agency changes in the future.

Watch this start a chain reaction of fucking over teams and players. Somehow I bet Wes Matthews gets screwed.

the new strategy of getting easy access to the playoffs is saying your going to commit only if they do this and then never actually sign :/

this is going to fuck things up

I think it's actually really sad that DJ is so weak-minded and more susceptible to influence than any adult millionaire should be.

That said, I am going to tweet him to ask him to stay because he is loved and wanted.

1) Great coach
2) Great owner
3) No income tax

Those are three upsides to playing in Dallas. The Mavericks have won 50+ game for 12 of the last 15 seasons, and have done so with a revolving cast of players. Yes, they've struggled since winning a championship, but they've proven that they're always going to be competitive (usually going as far as the Clippers, who peaked last year).

The Clippers with DJ would be better than the Mavs with DJ this season. But how about after that? As Paul breaks down and Doc ruins the team, would you rather hitch your wagon to a proven winner or a proven loser?

Sounds like a movie script.

If a reversal happens, then expect Cubes to go scorched earth after next season during the CBA. He would do everything he could to make sure it's a FULL lockout year.

Unless it is explicitly stated/accepted that DAJ is the one driving this change of heart, I can't imagine the rest of the league would ever consider doing business with the Clips' front office again, unless it's an opportunity to fleece them Philly-SAC style.

The Mavericks would probably stop doing business with them for a while but I'm sure this won't stop other teams from dealing with them if a good opportunity presents itself.

Doc Rivers has arrived in Houston and plans to meet with DeAndre Jordan before he can sign with Dallas, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

it should be a written rule to be honest.

That's the power of being a player in the NBA.

Kids do it for college sports all the time. Companies fuck new employees over if they can find someone cheaper to do the same work. Nothing on the dotted line, no deal.

e: Lebron just did the same thing. "I'm BACK CLE!, IMMA OPT OUT THO JUST IN CASE!"
