Because he's won how many championships?

Clearly the best college basketball coach in America is K. Sorry, I hate to say it myself.

Either rivals.com or theinsiders.com website we're number 7 - is that so hard to believe? Even though we lost two recruits to the draft - our class is still solid.

And Bowser - expect an ass kicking from us in football this year. That is all.

You guys didn't sign (and keep) a single player in the Rivals Top 25, so yeah, I'd be surprised. :) The #7 probably included Telfair. Juan Palacios and Brian Johnson do not make what I'd call the #7 class in the nation.

Of the Top 150, Louisville got #30, #41, and #87. Come on, let's be realistic here.

I doubt he'll take the job...he would be a fool to, at any rate. Guy is treated like a king at Duke. His offices make up the top floor of their six-story basketball facility, and it's fingerprint access only to get up there. He'd probably like to outdo Dean Smith in the total wins department, too. Maybe Coach K is just bored at Duke, but I think he'd dislike working at the pro level.

Not that I care much either way about Duke basketball, but my grandfather was a professor there so I hear about this shit all the time.

Damn! Suns didnt waste any time

PHOENIX -- Robert Sarver completed the $401 million purchase of the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. Now he might be primed for another $100 million investment.

A source told ESPN's David Aldridge that the Suns are prepared to offer Los Angeles Lakers free agent guard Kobe Bryant a six-year deal in excess of $100 million. The Suns can make an offer any time after 12:01 a.m. ET Thursday, the first allowable time for free agents to be contacted. The source also told Aldridge that the Suns will try to meet with Bryant's representatives on Friday in Los Angeles.

If the Suns could pull this off they'd easily move to being the best young team in the league, and perhaps a legitimate title contender.

I see some people here dislike a winning team. It's common those that have no other place to point the blame, point it to the winner instead of their own team. Tisk tisk.

The only thing more blunt than the question was Orlando Magic General Manager John Weisbrod's answer. And it went a long way to explaining why Tracy McGrady was in Houston on Wednesday as a former employee of the club.

"Would it be fair to say that Tracy is not your type of player?"

"Yes," Weisbrod said.

A day after McGrady said the Magic wanted him out and didn't try to persuade him to stay, Weisbrod lashed back at the superstar he traded to the Rockets on Tuesday in a multiplayer deal.

"He definitely said that he wanted out. I think both sides of it are true," Weisbrod said. " I think he made up his mind around the all-star break [in February] that he was out. I think they communicated that to us immediately after the season was over so that is definitely true.

"The fact that we didn't go chasing him down to change his mind, that I didn't call him on his birthday, that's true, too."

Asked if he would treat future stars in the same manner, Weisbrod said, "I'm not going to chase them down, say pretty please with sugar on top."

McGrady acknowledged to the Sentinel on Tuesday that he had difficulties with Weisbrod, a hard-nosed, no-nonsense former NHL player who replaced John Gabriel in March. "I don't like the way he handles things," McGrady said.

Weisbrod could say vice versa. While calling McGrady "arguably, the most physically talented player in the league," Weisbrod said the team was not going to progress if T-Mac returned and resembled the frustrated, unhappy star he was last season. He decided that for all his brilliance, McGrady was not conducive to creating a winning environment.

"Was it going to happen here, and was it going to happen in a way that was constructive?" Weisbrod asked. "And were we going to take a step forward next year instead of a step back? I don't think we would of."

Weisbrod has talked about changing the culture of losing that suffocated the Magic during a 21-61 season. He said he felt McGrady contributed to it by not acting like a driven leader and a committed professional, although he agreed that previous management did little to surround T-Mac with enough talent during his four seasons. Weisbrod wants to rebuild the club with passionate competitors, "guys who want to cover Kobe Bryant," he said. "Maybe he [McGrady] will develop into that, but he's not now."

His reference to Bryant may or may not have been a Freudian slip. When the Magic played the Lakers on March 15, they led Los Angeles by 11 at halftime, and Bryant had scored only one point. He erupted for 37 in the second half while also aggressively guarding McGrady in the fourth period to will the Lakers to a 113-110 victory in overtime at Staples Center.

When the Magic exited their bus to the team hotel, McGrady suggested that Weisbrod send the tapes of Bryant's roughhouse tactics against him to league headquarters. Weisbrod bristled at the notion, and angrily chastised McGrady for not playing defense on Bryant and matching his intensity.

Weisbrod still was fuming when reached his room. He then cooled off, called McGrady and explained to him that he only wanted to help him become the best player he could be.

According to one player and several other sources, there were other incidences in which Weisbrod looked at McGrady and didn't see his type of player.

Two days after the Magic lost to the Lakers, they were drilled by Golden State 110-85. After the game, McGrady questioned what the Magic -- 32 games under .500 -- were playing for, rankling Weisbrod and the coaching staff.

Weeks later, when a doctor or trainer was examining McGrady's left knee, which he said had been ailing him, he asked McGrady where it hurt. "Where do you want it to hurt?" McGrady was to have said, and it got back to Weisbrod.

The last straw, however, might have been March 28, when the Dallas Mavericks came to Orlando for a game televised on ABC. McGrady was sitting out because of the tendinitis in his knee. When interviewed during the game, he chastised his teammates and didn't exactly give Coach Johnny Davis, who had taken over after Doc Rivers had been fired in November, a glowing endorsement.

Weisbrod got a tape of the interview, gathered the team and played it in the locker room. He asked McGrady to explain himself in front of his teammates. McGrady apologized, but sources say Weisbrod "benched" McGrady after the incident. He effectively ended McGrady's season, and his Magic career, three days later by placing him on the injured list, without determining whether he could come back with seven games remaining.

By this time, according to Weisbrod, McGrady already had one foot out the door after letting the Magic know he wanted to be traded.

The Magic received point guard Steve Francis, guard Cuttino Mobley and center Kelvin Cato from the Rockets. Weisbrod was asked if Orlando came close to receiving equal compensation for its superstar.

"I think it starts with how you define a superstar," Weisbrod said. "I think superstars are defined by winning and making people around them better and making teams better. I think that part of it might have my perception a little bit different than most. I feel like we definitely got what we wanted. I felt like we definitely got value."

Weisbrod said the Magic "were better than we were yesterday," and added, "I'm definitely excited about our identity being different. Our identity was Tracy and supporting cast. I would like the identity of our teams going forward to be about team. It's a team sport."

Weisbrod is such an ass

The day before the trade he keeps talking about how the Magic are still trying to keep T-Mac then right after the trade he jumps on him like he kicked his dog. Fuck you Weisbrod, lets see you talk about Francis after he leaves the Magic in 3-4 years.

This just proves how much better of an organization the Rockets are then the Magic.

During the press conference yesterday all they did was thank Francis, Mobley, and Cato for their years with the Rockets. What do the Magic do? Insult T-Mac. Class.

DALLAS -- Dallas Mavericks free agent guard Steve Nash reached a verbal agreement Thursday night to sign with the Phoenix Suns, ESPN.com's Marc Stein has learned.

Nash and agent Bill Duffy, according to league sources, received an offer from Phoenix on Thursday -- believed to be a five-year package worth more than $65 million with a partial guarantee for the sixth season -- and brought it back to the Mavericks.

Mavs owner Mark Cuban, sources said, declined to match the offer.

"It's exciting, but it's also a little bittersweet," Nash told ESPN.com. "I am really sad to leave my teammates, but I am glad to be going somewhere where they really wanted me."

According to sources, after giving the Suns a verbal commitment, Nash immediately phoned longtime teammates Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Finley to break the news.

Mavericks sources said Cuban was reluctant to give Nash more than a four-year guaranteed contract because of fears the 30-year-old couldn't physically handle no more than 32 minutes per game.

No deals can be formally signed until July 14, when the salary cap for next season is set. Teams and free agents can only reach verbal agreements during the league's two-week moratorium on signings and trades.

Nash had met with Cuban in Dallas on Wednesday morning and then was greeted by a traveling Suns delegation that included chairman Jerry Colangelo, son and team president Bryan Colangelo, new owner Robert Sarver and forward Amare Stoudemire, a client of Duffy's.

Wednesday, Duffy said, "It was a good meeting [with Cuban]. Mark made it very clear that re-signing Steve is a priority."

The Suns originally drafted Nash in 1996 and he never sold his home in the Phoenix area.

Bringing in Nash eliminates the Suns from the Kobe Bryant derby. On Wednesday night, it was reported that Phoenix was prepared to offer Bryant a six-year deal worth over $100 million.
DAMN IT!!!!!

Nash will be missed. :(

appears that Vince Carter wants out of Toronto. ESPN reports that that Carter has asked the Raptors to trade him. According to a league source, Carter is not happy with the hiring of Rob Babcock as the Raptors' general manager nor with the selection of Rafael Arajuo with in last week's NBA draft. The Raptors GM has insisted since he was hired June 7 that he wants to build the team around Carter.

God damnit. GAR!

Yikes. Let's hope that's just a rumour. Much as I hated the draft choice initially, it's not as bad as it looked at first. Whatever. If he wants to go, let him go....Just make sure that you get a player of equal value in return.

NO, DM....NO!!!!

I'm not sure if Vince has even met with the new GM yet. He got married a few days ago...I believe, and he should keep his mouth shut until he knows what the direction of the team is. We needed a big man as our number one priority, so that's who we drafted. What "direction" is he talking about? Of course we're going to suck if our star player is sitting on the bench and crying like an Italian soccer player after every little bit of contact.

The Raptors are stupid.

just watch.

Carter will leave Toronto and become even more dominant like McGrady did when he left Toronto. Letting 2 of the top players in the sport to go is like... stupid. They should have built a better team around McGrady and Carter when they had the chance, damnit.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

There are no words. The largest sports news website in the world has errors like this in far too many stories. It seems as though it happens with every other news piece I read on the site.

Edit: Also, how could we not expect Carter wanting out? Hell, what fan of the Raptors didn't curse out the management when Araujo was selected? Carter just did it to a reporter :p

Hey Carter, there's a vacancy in Dallas on July 14th...

Walker for Carter? :D

Oh yeah, trade away Vince for the guy that Dallas got in exchange for Raef Lafrenz.

"While the source told Aldridge that Carter presented four to six different trade proposals to the Raptors, the team has not granted Carter permission to seek a trade and Babcock said that the team has no plans to trade Carter."

So Vince presented four to six trades to the Raptors? Hah...

I'd love to be a fly on the wall on that room, if it's true.

Nash to the Suns , guess that means Kobe said no.

I'm torn. The Suns already have a pretty good, young point guard. And what they needed the most is a shooting guard and center. Well maybe they can move Joe Johnson to shooting guard with Nash at the point. Oh well. All I have to say to Nash is.......

Who gives a shit about ACC football? NC State is practically the only good team we have (GA Tech is alright too). I mean, now that Miami and VA Tech have been added, they will dominate ACC football. I'm all about ACC Basketball; no love for ACC football here.

ESPN.com is also reporting that Coach K is Kobe's preferred choice.

edit: Incase I'm not expressing it (which I don't think I am), let me just say that, being a UNC fan, this makes me GIDDY. Absolutely GIDDY. :D

sportscenter is also gonna do some report about a rumored Shaq for CWebb deal (please Mitch, don't you fucking do it). I may be forced to root for both Coach K AND Chris Webber? God, these fuckers are really testing my fandom.

The Magic should trade Grant Hill for Vince Carter.. then the GM's can bet whose star goes down for the year first and the winner gets a future #1.

Shaq is gone, folks....

Yeah and that old dude is a fucking idiot. Even though I'm pissed at Tracy right now, he doesnt know what the hell he's talking about.

And yeah Mig, I think the Magic will probably be better off without him as an overall team. He's a great player and so is Juwan Howard, but Cato is a good shot blocker and Mobley/Francis are both quality players.
