Again... thank you for clearing that up for me... because I have not seen ANYWHERE in this thread that I have claimed that my "opinion" is a FACT.

"I guess some of us are used to quality football games like ESPN 2K5."

"I'm not looking for perfection, just the absensce of stupidity... which I won't find amongst this group of EA fanboys."

"Something as small as the entire ESPN integration into the 2k series is better then ANYTHING EA has added to this iteration of Madden."

"I got exactly what I knew I was going to get out of it... nothing more then a bunch of EA elitest gaming dorks flaming me. I knew what I was getting into."

"This was back when EA cared about what they put out because they were still trying to win the loyalty of the gamers. Now they have that loyalty, they can put out crap and you EA FANBOYS will eat it up like it's candy"

"No... some of us have lives outside of video games... we don't sit around and troll message boards all day."

"Boy... I sure am glad that you figured that out on your own... that I was here to whine about EA fanboys. I thought I was displaying a humorous picture taken from a game I had on Madden 2006. I'm glad I have all of you elitest gaming dorks to think for me."

"I'm sorry... but I'm not a sporting god that cares about updated rosters... nor was I the one who asked about it. I simply want to play the best game around... which I cannot since EA crushed the competition with it's money and not it's inferior game"

OK, I have to go interview a guy about a job here but trust me I'll be RIGHT BACK to check out this thread :lol :lol

because last year ESPN sold for 50% cheaper than Madden and still got outsold.

Yet EA was STILL concerned enough to kick them out of the market! Why would they spend 400 mil on the NFL license if they thought VC wasn't a threat?

Because the NFL also offered the fucking license to other publishers! GOD KONEX! GET IT THROUGH YOUR SKULL! THE NFL WAS SHOPPING THE LICENSE AROUND!

*pulls an Artest*

People, there was no getting around the exclusive license. The NFL went shopping for suitors, and naturally they went to the biggest name in sports first, EA. If EA didn't snap up the exclusive rights, then someone else would have. EA didn't do it because it felt threatened, they did it because they wanted to continue to produce the Madden franchise with an NFL license.

Keep telling yourself that and maybe you'll believe it someday. I don't buy that story for a second :D

Ok then Konex, what DO you buy? Seriously, tell me what you think your version of how the NFL and EA deal went down? Did EA kidnap Paul Tags' daughter and hold her ransom? Did EA have photos of Tags having sex with a 13 year old boy in Cuba? Please, tell us this wonderful story of your's.

How exactly could the consumer vote with their dollars when there is only one game to buy? O_o

I was talking about when the two games were still in the marketplace.

I don't see what's so bad about the exclusive deal. No other NFL game? Yeah, it sucks. But hey, if you really look football and the presentation of football in a videogame medium then the choice for the next 5 years is Madden. Why parade yourself with a banner and proclaim: "Well HEE HAW I'ma play NFL2K3 instead of next-gen Madden, screw that nose! You lose! I win!"... it's silly.

Obviously the past decade plus the consumer thought the Madden series was great, even after having it's throat manhandled every once in a while (i.e: NFL Quarterback Club, NFL 2K series, Gameday and etc), but the consumer already had decided: "Hey I want Madden and none else." So who was superior between Madden and NFL2K? I really don't care at this time to say anything about that.

But hey, if the Madden series turns to complete horseshit in the next few years, do you think the NFL will like that? Of course not, and neither will the consumer. But guess what, whether we like it or not, Madden is quality. Madden is very close to having a VERY accurate representation of football.

And to those who think Madden or football in general sucks because of lack of innovation... um, what? This is football we're talking about... we're not talking about the RPG genre or platforming/adventure genre here. We're talking about football. Where the games rule is already set in stone. What more innovation you want? As long as EA Tiburon keeps Madden controls consistent, slick as all hell possible, have the core gameplay intact and up the anty when it comes to presentation (Madden's sole downfall, IMO)... then I won't complain. At all.

Maybe the next stage football games will head into is being fused with the RPG genre... maybe give some actual life to the players we play on the screen. I think that's a neat idea... but something like that has to be properly implemented before the mainstream falls for something so radical.

because what they spent to get the NFL exclusive probably costs about as much as it would have to make up the lost revenue on having to sell their game for $20 to match VC/2K. Losing millions of dollars, or losing millions of dollars and having the exclusive NFL license...hmm which is the better business decision?

Really? Because DirecTV is laughing at you right now.

I thought I would never agree with you but you hit the nail on the head. The NFL cares about how much money it can make on licenses, if it pisses off a few people so what. They do not see the EA deal as gamers do. Sure EA hit them up for an exclusive in past years, but who is to say Visual Concepts/Sega did not try the same thing? Even though I prefer the ESPN football game I have come to realize the NFL was the main reason EA has an exclusive. Of course you rarely ever see ESPN fans crying about how Take Two/2K got the exclusive MLB baseball license. I wish neither exclusives ever happened but there is nothing you can do now.

I bet Sony cancelled their football game because they knew it would piss off the NFL since they included things like players gambling on games. I am sure 5 years down the road they wanted an opporitunity at the NFL license when the deal with EA expires.

On a side note, I always figured they modeled the crowds in EA sports games after their fanbase.

You mean sterile? Nah I just think most of the guys who live for Madden can't get laid to begin with, unless excessive masturbation leads to such a disfunction. It would have been nice to see them actually move around on occasion (like that other football game).
