I just wanted to chime in for a moment. I've occasionally peeked at the ban list to see what goes on. This can be ignored completely, but I'm a little concerned whenever I've seen people get banned regarding posts on political grounds. Especially if they happen to be more supportive of liberal ideas.

I really don't want this place to become resetera, but for conservatives. I'm not a conservative, I've been vocal on occasion on my disgust for Trump, and how people need to be less selfish, and think about more than themselves. Yet liberals on era are fucking insane and don't want equality, but rather reverse racism. I consider myself a middle ground type of person, and I always have voted for what I thought was the lesser of two evils. I don't trust politicians regardless of which side they're on. First president I ever voted for was Bush. Than I voted for Obama twice because he offered a better future. Hilary always seemed like a stuck up woman who cared about herself more than the people who would vote for her, but she seemed less evil than Trump. That's pretty much the extent of my loyalty to any political party.

Anyway, I'm getting off my point. I just want to suggest that mods take it to heart that they shouldn't let this place become a mirror version of resetera. Be better than resetera. Let people from all views come together, and if you need to moderate political discussion, use it as a means to encourage respectful discussion. Don't stamp out people because they're not pro Trump, or republican.

I am a novice here, but will speak out. Much of the problems here is due to 'reactions' farming.
Few incessant trollers are here trying to brighten up their image and reputation.🤷‍♀️ Just like the politicians who lie to the public, denigrate the public amongst their colleagues, and act holier than thou by attending church.

It could be as well seen as trying to have fun and a laugh? You know, it's a gaming forum, although there is a politics section. Look at it from the bright side. Actually, you get reactions whether you make good memes, thoughtful posts, or very exciting news. You need to hang out around a bit to have the bigger picture.

Good luck ;)

I do get a little buzz when I see my reactions go up.
But I'd prefer if I got more replies to a post. That is the point of the forum. 100 reactions and no replies means nothing to read.

My point being, I don't think people are too fussed about their reaction scores - it's just a bit of fun. No harm in that.

If the forum is more right wing then the people most likely to be disruptive are people on the left, you might think that's unfair but the idea I'll always go with is that most forums have an identity, a sort of communal identity and while vigorous debate is fantastic for any thriving forum you are always going to have a consensus view on that forum and people who don't always fit the consensus. When your voice isn't the majority there are more people willing to tell you how wrong you are, less people to back you up and it's less likely the best arguments for your side will show up because there's simply less people on that side. All these things can lead to frustration and frustration can lead to posting things you probably shouldn't. This isn't even just true for politics, take the console warring, it's pretty evident GAF is made up of more people who play on one piece of plastic than another, but since GAF is more about gaming than politics you can get in trouble just for being a console warrior, whereas in politics being a warrior for your side is EXPECTED. So, what I notice is more bans for the majority side in gaming than the other... why? Because more people ALSO means more low quality posters posting things they shouldn't. Which can be true for politics as well, but again, we expect people to be this way with politics, thinking everything X side does is bad is kinda how people are when it comes to politics but if you think literally everything Nintendo has ever done is bad either have an amazing argument or prepare to not be taken seriously. I should clarify, though, that when you always think one side is bad regardless of whether they take up positions you previously praised the other side for doing you do go beyond what we expect even from political discourse but the cognitive dissonance the tribalism of politics creates is so hard to avoid and would be much harder to moderate than the type of cognitive dissonance your favorite plastic box can give you.

If you're voicing an opinion less popular you're more likely to get dogpiled and then more likely to lash out in a way that's worth of a ban. There are left wing posters, I see them post all the time, so no one is being banned for being wrong (teehee). I mean the only positions you aren't allowed to defend are ridiculous ones like being pro-pedo or some shit, compare that to ResetEra where a plethora of issues you're not allowed to have the wrong opinion on regardless of how you voice that viewpoint and you can see how this is not the Conservative version of ResetEra. If people start getting banned simply for having the "wrong" political take I'll understand this, but it looks like you're confusing correlation and causation, that the person banned is more likely to be left wing politics doesn't mean the mods have it out for people on the left. You can't identify the cause of a pattern simply by observing that pattern, you need to dig deeper.

Even the reason's given for a ban can't always give a full picture, some bans are the straw that broke the camel's back after long histories of temp bans, warnings and PM discussions which is why it's always best to argue about INDIVIDUAL bans case by case. That's why this thread exists, to petition the mods about specific bans and see if they will elaborate on them. But if you aren't specific, if you lay down a blanket accusation towards the mods, or even hint at the possibility of one it's hard for them to respond to such a thing, though I would expect a simple rejection of your thesis entirely with long active left wing posters as proof. Though, your argument does seem to be as much about a slippery slope as it is about what is actually happening. Though to me the slippery slope is as much about what's happening in the real world as moderator bias, as in the closer we get to election the more deranged some people will get, whoever wins expect GAF to have some really sore posters account suiciding, same with the fact that we're approaching the launch of new consoles, everything is going to be accelerated a bit on both the gaming and political forums due to all of this. Sprinkle on some COVID and rioting and the forum just isn't going to be the same as it hopefully will be in say... 2021 or 2022.

Resident Pedophile surely? I mean you're not that important ;)

You're totally correct. To you, me and all the normal users here I'm not important at all. I'm just another guy passing time posting whatever random bullshit goes through my mind.
You know what though, there's a couple of goofs on here who bite at everything. You know the ones, they go through other user's post historys and can't stop hitting the report button.
Sometimes I like to wind those goofs up just to watch them spazz out. Sometimes I like to call them worthless, bootlicking bitches. I shouldn't but hey it got me free gold and a tag.

The important question here : Which is the higher honour? A tag or a thread renamed in your honour?

Salt, it was literally two clicks to see what you got tagged for.

Come at me ya wee bairn, greet mair.

Now Nush we all know how you spend your time. Checking people's post historys. Reporting everyone you don't like. Engaging in dog piles. Crying on Discord for protection. Running to the mods everytime someone hurts you fee fees. I am your President Nush. Never forget it.

I had thread making privileges revoked more than a month ago (still not sure why). Can anyone tell me if these privileges return or have I been maimed in perpetuity?

I try not to go to this well, because it gives me extreme posting anxiety, but there's literally, at a conservative, lowest possible count, probably thousands watching us.

Definitely puts the need to act with a basic level of decorum and maturity in perspective. You don't just represent and affect you. You represent and affect the site.

Exactly. I mean I'll freely admit I ride the rails pretty strong, but you've gotta keep things on a level for the most part. Being on the outside I don't get the whole console war thing all that much (Brand loyalty tends to dictate where people go for the most part from what I've observed) but it does seem to me that some people get a little too embroiled in the whole 'which system is superior' speculative Dick Measuring for their own good.

Also as expressed before. I'm generally not keen on the idea of perms (save for people who are truly irredeemable), and would rather see bans stack like points on a driving licence so it's in your best interest when coming back not to act out. Some people naturally can't help themselves, but ultimately they're going to end up exiling themselves of their own accord . If not that then perhaps the mods and EL could have an end of year review of current perms and carry out a reappraisal?

Honestly, he puts lots of effort in his posts, whether some are right or wrong (like anyone) and I don't see him getting enough appreciation. I see him as an important poster to the forum, although I disagree with many of his points.
IDK, it seems forced. I like making walltexts, but doing all the time? For what? C'mon.

He has a flowant brain, and an aggressively fast typing skill, and probably has something to do with his job that has lots of writing. The faster you get, the more you feel like you type just like you're speaking, that fast. I have that when I'm angry or when typing in Arabic. :lollipop_tears_of_joy: As in English I might end up with plenty of typos and embarrass myself.

So Eastwood is rip as well. It was also a matter of time because he does troll/console war quite a bit but of all posts to to ban him off of, seemed really mild compare to his other rants.

Just point the mods to the banable post and they'll change the link. Problem solved.

It's multiple, not that very post we saw together. Check this thread:

And he's been pretty active with that attitude. Perma? I'm pretty annoyed from him and he's been on my face most of the time in many threads, but if it was me I would rather give him a month. But who am I to do so anyway.

It was just an observation and I know its multiple posts, but the one they reference seemed like he was trying to play nice. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Don’t get me wrong, I love the mods here and they have a very challenging job of keeping the insanity in check from console warring to the political stuff.

I think all your posts should be in Arabic, it would certainly improve your content.

We all console war to some extent, but it's the toxic approach that annoys. But he engages in debates with no will to acknowledging his wrong points nor provide plausible points himself.

I see what you're doing here, you want me to get banned for not typing in English. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

He makes great posts and like you said puts a lot of thought and useful information into them. He is obviously very knowledgeable and a lot of what he says goes over my limited tech understanding, but I think he does a good job at explaining things so that even dumb blondes like myself can understand the bulk of what he's trying to convey.

So Eastwood is rip as well. It was also a matter of time because he does troll/console war quite a bit but of all posts to to ban him off of, seemed really mild compare to his other rants.

Probably another case of the final straw or just grabbing one at random, not necessarily THE one. I'm pretty sure he was on very thin ice. I think he just came off of a recent ban and the ban message compares him to Gamernyc. I've seen recent posts from him and just KNEW a perm was inevitable.

I mean I liked the guy, he's an Xbox fan, and I didn't want to see him get banned but I'm not going to cry or try to pretend he was banned unfairly. It's just a case that the Mods know what they're doing and doing it well.

No one is being banned on political grounds. People are being banned for being right cunts and breaking rules. Take a look at all those you think are "more supportive of liberal ideas" and how they word their arguments. They insult, demean, instigate, troll, and use every logical fallacy in the book.

Most folks here, including myself, are left-leaning. This is also a Video Game Forum which si where most people spend their time. Why so many seem to think that politics are important in a community dedicated to video games baffles me. Check how often Offtopic, Gaming, and Politics posts are made and how many new threads/interactions there are. Politics is by far the least used in that regard and for good reason (repeating as it seems some still don't get it) - NeoGAF is a video game forum where most people talk about freakin' video games.

I don't believe that for a second.

I'll even give the mods some understanding here. REEEEE posters literally sabotaged the entire forum, smeared the owner, tried to ruin his business and set out on a malicious campaign. I'd understand if there is a bias towards anti-ANTIFA, anti-SJW rhetoric. I'd completely understand if that was the position of the mods openly, because that is also my position. That's probably the position of almost everyone on this site. But it doesn't actually say that anywhere, even though we all know it's true.

Moderators: Is this the criteria you still use? It sure doesn't seem like it.

What will get your post attention by the moderation team is when you are doing one of the following:
  • Making blatant and direct attacks against other users or people (racism, sexist, xenophobia, user insults, etc)
  • Intentionally trolling people by either not engaging honestly or making antagonistic claims without any intention to defend them
  • Making duplicate threads that already have an active discussion going for the same subject
  • Making the same lazy rhetorical driveby comments as your primary contribution to threads
  • Dogpiling. This is not a word of 'sanctuary' you can claim when you come in and make a highly contentious point that lacks substance. If you say something stupid and you get called out by multiple posters, this is your own fault. However, moderator's may intervene where a user with an alternate, credible standpoint is being drowned out or suffocated by a number of posts that repeat the same throwaway comment/empty rhetoric.

What are the actual rules when moderating? I think you have to admit that there's political bias when moderating. Just looked at the list and a couple people posted "ACAB" and got banned permanently. I personally do not support anti-police efforts, and do not at all agree with that. But this is the thing, your rules do not say that anywhere.

Update your rules
. Explain that you are going to ban ANTIFA rhetoric and it's fine with me. Currently, your rules don't say anything about that.

Your rules don't say anything about constantly ignoring conservatives who repeatedly insult users. You definitely lean more towards a pro-conservative moderation style. If that's what you want to do, then at least write that down and own it. If NOLA and Crowbrow get banned for mostly innocent trolling (along with several others), but Schrodinger can insult people for months and months on end (not to mention Matt), then explain that in the rules that you give a pass to anyone that's conservative or friends with the mods.

YOU'RE NOT EXPLAINING THE RULES CLEARLY AT ALL. I'm not even in favor of banning people all the time. We don't have a ton of traffic here. You can give warnings, or temporary bans, or thread bans. You don't really do anything but ban liberals at the moment.

You definitely, 100% do not follow the rules posted here. Update your rules to be actually accurate. That's not asking a lot right? I love this site, and actually love the moderation style. But what is going on in the politics forum? Explain it to me, because I literally don't know what you're doing. You don't follow that bullet point list at all. None of it.

I 100% agree.

To be churlish, I would add the "Don't like it, then make your own platform." response gleefully echoed by certain factions when a social media giant opts to ban or reprimand someone.

There is a very 'Carlos Maza' parallel to be drawn when I read some of the posts on this page. :messenger_grimmacing_

cite posts where you've been insulted unfairly, kinda curious to see the context of those arguments, otherwise it sounds like you got decimated and are howling at wind
OK. But it's gonna take a while to pull it all together.. :messenger_neutral:
