Really sad to see two people seemingly leaving over, it must be said, not getting what they want.
Putting a question to you, if being called on the warring BS makes you feel this bad, imagine how the rest of us felt for most of the year, when we could hardly get a word in edgewise on stuff we genuinely wanted to talk about, without all of you acting like ten year olds, even getting hostile over the slightest thing? Quite a few people just stopped posting/as much on gaming side, because you just would not stop.

Many of those who came here last night (pretty late, I was asleep while all this was going on) and requested account bans could have easily avoided that by signing out and coming back in a couple days after they were more calm.
I see a lot of posting in the heat of the moment of a thread lock, ban warning, or something similar and they immediately escalate the issue. Which begs the BIG question I have: So, this is a gaming forum with great standards, but video games are a luxury not a necessity in life. So, why do people get so emotional over something superficial and material when there are bigger things to be concerned with in life right now?
Mods here have a sense of humor and mercy too with members. Since I've been here, I've seen at least 3 popular users get unbanned (from a perma) and they've made the site better. Why? They're acting more mature or simply not letting things get to them like

I think it's healthier to give 1-6 months ban instead. Most of those requesting self bans will regret it, not because you can't survive outside GAF, but because this forum has many great people that we have some sort of bound to them and enjoy their company.

Just take a break and do something else for a while. Whenever I get frustrated by internet arguments or whatever I just leave and walk away. There is nothing to actually gain from such things after all.
And don't log back in until you feel like it, if you are really pissed then taking a few months off a community can do wonders. I have seen it happen in a lot of forums over the years and when people finally return they tend to have an even funnier time than before.

But seriously, lots of us have been warned or temp banned for going over the edge having fun. Simple. Just tone down, don't talk back like this is People's Court with Guy#1 talking back to Judge Wapner, and don't do dumb shit like alt-accts or whining like a baby on this thread.
If you look at the permabans half of them are spammer bots, and the other half are either go straight to jail gross stuff like posting dumb porn or hailing hitler halocausts, or actual users who have been multi-warned (+++) but keep going.

Because whenever a DF thread pops up and it's filled with pages and pages of people claiming conspiracies, bias, accusations and even personal insults against the people at DF, I have yet to see something done about it. And it happens literally in every DF thread.
So I'm genuinely asking: what's the approach to this type of threads?

They are allowed to be reported, you all know this. Mods aren't patrolling threads with an Iron Fist.
Take responsibility, report the offending post and move on if you are not willing to engage or plainly call the person out.
If it's egregious enough something will be done, you have to give some pointers by reporting though.
Shits me that people come here whining all the time. How is this allowed? We're letting it happen, that's why it's allowed.
You can drive drunk all the time, if nobody does anything about it and you don't crash too hard you're gonna be fine.

We're not going to talk about DF in an NXGamer thread. You can't see reply bans in most cases, but yes posts like this are likely to earn reply bans. Earn enough reply bans, then it's a ban. People derailing early in the thread are likely to be bit harder. For instance were you reply banned for this no one would know, but your post would likely still be reported subsequently. That's why many of you probably think 'nothing is happening' when it is, and why you see so many bans on the ban page with [+multiple] tags. For instance, no-one knew that Lunatic_Gamer had been removed from the next gen thread did they? But they had been. Can you tell me what you have seen done in the Xbox runs hot thread? As there were twenty reply bans issued. Does that mean because you didn't see it, then nothing was done? Stop working on assumptions, conspiracy theories and just chill out. Use the ignore button. Don't brag about how you're all tough enough to avoid using the ignore button then cry to the mods about seeing things you don't like. They don't complement each other. If you get emotionally affected by reading things, use ignore. Its the easiest thing to do.
If you want to discuss the legitimacy of an outlet or any perceived bias you are welcome to do so in a dedicated thread that has credible accusations/examples. But the constant derails about this, xbox series S resolution etc. in other threads are going to be clamped down on. And those who are are daft enough to be provoked and also derail threads for multiple pages are likely to be collateral damage. If you escalate, you're part of the problem. We don't need immature shriekers getting red faced because they read something about a plastic box that upsets them. No one wants to read fanboy bickering for pages.
What I'd genuinely ask back is, why is it always the same people who are involved in this behaviour? From both camps? Why can so much of the forum behave like rational adults except a minority? Why can you all see what console warring is yet Bernkastel hasn't reported your post in the NXGamer thread? Why is it that Sony fans reporting Xbox fans don't report other Sony fans? You all obviously know what childish console warring is, and are able to identify it - so why don't you report/pick examples from your own 'side'?

I'm not a reporting kind of guy. I know I've been massively reported myself and I tried for a while to play by those "rules", but it's simply not something that I like.
And this is obviously not about one or two messages, it's much more bigger than that. So reporting or not it's irrelevant.
If I engage with people and call their bias and hypocrisy out, I get banned. So either I come here and ask what's the official modus operandi or either I ignore what happens, but in that case, I rather not be on GAF at all then.
That's why I'm here trying to not let it happen, to ask why is there such a disparity in how the threads are moderated when is a DF thread vs an NXGamer thread.
You talk about whining. Well, if I try to do something in a straight to the point confrontational way, then I'm an antagonistic asshole and I get banned.
We sure talk a lot about NXGamer in DF threads though.

And I just don't understand why NXGamer has that almost inmediate protection while the DF threads are filled for pages and pages of conspiracies, bias talk, jabs and insults. I'm not spouting any conspiracy theories here, I'm just stating the fact that the DF threads are being moderated in a way and the NXGamer one of this morning had the luxury of being moderated differently. That's not a conspiracy, it's literally what happened. I'm not accusing anybody of a bias, but I simply want the moderation to be aware of that disparity and tell me that DF threads and NXGamer threads are going to be subjected to the same rules and standards, whatever those will be.
Can you link me to some other NXGamer threads that have a mod note on the first page, as it is so prevalent and such an observable bias? Also, the Digital Foundry thread you are talking about was certainly derailed by one set of fans indeed. Read that first page and can you tell me who is responsible for ignoring the content and derailing it immediately and trying to score points? You say you're not into conspiracy theories, yet are picking one outlier where a mod was available to quickly course correct as a clandestine conspiracy, that we are standing with a barricade in front of NXGamer. If that were true, would we not be reply banning you for this, or Senua for this, or MrFunSocks for this?

What I'm saying is that after seeing so many DF threads moderated in one way, seeing the NXGamer thread (singular) being moderated in such a different way, it's clearly both odd and unfair to the way those previous DF were moderated.
And I just want a clarification on what is going to be the official approach to these type of threads in the future, so we all can play with the same rules, be either a NXGamer thread or a DF thread. I just did it in the hope of bringing awareness to the mod team that there is a disparity that shouldn't happen anymore.
But no, I'm not accusing anyone of some conspiracy, I'm just trying to bring awareness to something that maybe you haven't put that much thought into.

Calling someone on it's bias it's hardly an invitation for a conversation, but it's normally the start of an arguing and a pissing contest. Especially in this forum.
