NeoGaf is a bit of a HiveMind.

If you were to go by NeoGaf or "influencers", you would think Expedition 33 is an all-timer.

And yet, according to statistics from Xbox itself
, only 27% of players have even reached this point (not the end of act I).

The reality is, outside of these echo chamber gaming communities like Gaf, people dropped off the game.

The reason why developers are moving away from single player game is because, gamers DON'T want single player games on average.

Select single player games do well, but most fail and nobody ever tells you this.

Expecting the mods to lock this thread (ResetEra style), because it goes against the hivemind.

People can still voice their opinions, doesn't mean its an echo chamber.

Its obvious most money is made with multiplayer and MTX etc but that's not to say that single player games aren't relevant.

Look at Zelda BOTW, Elden Ring etc.

It's on Game Pass, so the fact that only 27% of players have reached the end of Act I is really not that surprising. It's actually something common that happens with a bunch of titles (usually longer ones) releasing day one on GP or other subscription services like PS+ Extra (players with a modicum of interest in the game try it out and then ditch it for something else).

You do realize people have lives right? The majority of people will eventually play the game they bought, but it takes times. There's a lot of great singleplayer games in just a span of a few months that released. Backlogs are real, limited time is real. The only thing I can agree is that kids don't play singleplayer games, at least not as much as most of us millenials and older did back in the day.

Single player games are relevant to gamers who grew up in era where those were king.

Younger games today, know of games like Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, etc and don't care about single player games.

Isn't Expedition 33 on Gamepass? So you probably had a lot of people uninterested in the genre giving it a try for no additional cost. It's not even a bad thing if people tried it and didn't decide to continue, at least people tried it.

Imagine the face of this guy the moment he learns that basically ANY game in existence, no matter how popular, has very similar "completion rates".

Considering the sales numbers this may be the most retarded take of the week unless this OP believes all buyers so far are neogaffers....

I suck at the parry/dodge mechanic, so I stopped right after I watched my girl vaperize. A "turn-based" rpg shouldn't have a timing mechanic like that, a o this game can fuck off, imo

Yeah, i myself sometimes may take months to complete a game, in some cases even years, same with Books and TV series and stuff. Sometimes life just gets in the way.

I myself just started the game on the weekend, and haven't been able to pick it back up yet due to commitments (even though i really want to).

You know what Grand Theft Auto is?

It will be the biggest selling piece of entertainment in history.

Single player.

Yes.... GTA Online, but GTAVI won't be brought to play GTA Online only, the primary reason will be for the SP.

I haven't reached that point either, yet I'm loving the game. Some people like taking things slow, or just have other stuff to do with their lives aside from playing vidya.

This I can vouch for. All three of my kids play multiplayer games exclusively. While my old ass still plays a mixture of everything. But why you gotta say I have a hive mind bruh? Makes me not even wanna cut it up with you.

Not quite sure what you want to achieve with this thread. Is it just to inform us? Do you want something to change? Is there a controversy you want to discuss?

I'm not sure what you're going for here...

I played and finished Alliens Dark Descent (which I LOVED, incidentally) only in the past two weeks after having it in my library for more than a year.

GTA VI is your example on how single players are still relevant, WOW.

Great selective bias, using the single biggest franchise in gaming to prove your point.

GTA Online is the money maker, not the single player either btw.

I could have worded it differently, but yeah the main thing is gamers probably 30 and up care about single players.

The gen before that point, strongly focuses on multiplayer based games.

Yeah, they may try a single player game out but they drop them, soon after.

I'm one of the 73% that haven't made it that far, but it's not because it sucks or that it is uninteresting. I loaded the game up and as soon as I heard the epic title screen music I knew that I was in for something really special that I would need to dedicate my time to rather than just give it the quick Gamepass glance, so I shut it back down and will come back to it fully after I'm done with Oblivion. Point being, sometimes the numbers don't always tell you the story that you think they do. There's a million reasons why people haven't progressed to that part of the game and you are grasping on to one possibility.

Hardly, there are shittons of younger players who play SP stuff. SP games will never go out of fashion much like books or movies/series never did.

Game is one of the best to ever do it. The end.

Many people I know refuse to touch it, others started it and went back to online shooters.
Is what it is, as a game lover and RPG lover this game is phenomenonal and I don't want it to end.

Anyhow games like Elden Ring (mostly solo), God of War: Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are all massive single-player hits. the thing about Single-player games is they offer storytelling, immersion, and quality that multiplayer games typically don't. So while they may not seem as popular they won't be going anywhere as a result of what they offer. Now if multiplayer games can improve on those elements hit me up.

It's a pretty good one lol.

I can go on with Last of Us, Zelda, Elden Ring, Half Life Alyx etc

i agree, GTA Online is a money maker, doesn't make SP irrelevant.

GAF isn't a hivemind; it's several hiveminds at constant war with each other.

Also, OP, didn't you already try to create a thread about that Expedition 33 achievement? Or was that someone else? Regardless, trying to revive it with the added twist of shitting on the site doesn't seem like a great strategy.

Waiting for that live tag to show up any minute now. :goog_relieved:

This is selective bias, you're literally naming the best of the best, but ignore how Yoshida (former CEO of Sony) mentioned most AA and normal single player games fail to make profit.
