Oh thanks for the nice comments CV.

Anyway, you know Manny personally? I can name dozens of people who would be jealous of you.

Yes indeed. Going to Las Vegas later this month for the next fight. He's Kuya Manny to me actually :)

My new PS3 (bought yesterday) in action on my 32inch LCD.

However, when I set up the PS3 I set the display to "auto best settings" and it put the display at 1080i. I was under the impression my TV was only 720p. Am I a moron or is the PS3 wrong?

If it still displays after being set to 1080i, then your TV does indeed do 1080i.

The PS3 will default to 1080i over 720p if both are selected.

It's uneven, sorry. Apollo Justice and an iPod shuffle. The two wrapped games are the Japanese DS games Jump Ultimate Stars and Ouendan 2. Maybe only MarkMan and Kadey would know, but those two are gifts for Manny Pacquiao's two boys. I hope I made the right choice. :)
What? You know the Pacman? :O

Known him for many years actually (I first met him in 2001), before his famous days. My family remains great friends with him and his family, and he always gives my family ringside seats to his boxing fights. <3

if you see an image then it should mean your ps3 supports 1080i. My tv shows the menu in 1080i and games in 720p.

That's embarrasing. I had been playing my 360 on 720p settings for the last three months. Oh well, so far Uncharted looks amazing in the 1080i. I guess if nothing else it will give me an over-inflated view of the PS3 graphics compared to the 360 :lol

Is there a US release?

Is the glitter on the PSP really that noticeable? I never saw a Ice Silver slim in real live, but pictures of it make me puke a little. The picture on the PSP's box looks so much slicker :/ As if it's a totally different color.

Great pickups though :D. PATA PON!

@Space Invader Extreme people: Is it import-friendly?

I have an Ice Silver and it's only that noticeable with camera flash or sunlight or similar settings. Indoors with normal lighting it looks more grey, actually.

But yeah, the glitter couldn't be anymore tacky.

Its kind of midway between that picture and the one they put on the box. It doesn't look as dark/glittery in person. I still prefer the solid white and black models, but its not ugly.

Whoa, Patapon looks beautiful. Maybe I should look into getting the game. Too bad I don't have a PSP2000 to do video out on my monitor.

Not necessarily. My Pioneer Kuro 42" tv is 720p and my PS3 when set to auto settings will output a 1080p signal, which the tv will accept and then downscale to 720p. So even though the tv will accept a signal, doesn't mean it's a 1080P or 1080i tv, it just means your tv is willing to take that signal and downscale it. I found that letting my PS3 output 720p looks better, and in most cases 720p performs better and uses less system resources if you set it to 720p and remove the checks next to 1080i and 1080p. When you turn your tv on or hit the info button, it should tell you what resolution it's ACTUALLY displaying. If it says it's displaying 1080i, then your set must be 1080i, but I'm guessing it's just downscaling for you like my Kuro was.

I'd figure that out though as most games perform MUCH better with 1080i disabled, assuming that's a supported resolution. On my 1080p bravia I disable 1080i because it's usually garbage, like Rainbow Six Vegas, when it tries to output at that setting.

edit: best bet is to look your tv up on cnet or somewhere to check what the native resolution is. Then you'll know. If it's 720, then definitely disable 1080i.

How'd you get the PSP out to scale to your TV properly like that?

Never seems to look quite right on either of my TVs, even with zooming/scaling/stretching options...it's always the wrong aspect ratio.

crappy cellphone pix, but here is the DS version for reference. PSP version looks better and i'll be sure to pick that up when it hits North America.

btw, all the menus are english so very import-friendly. there is a little bit of japanese for descriptions as you scroll through the menus but that is completely an addition.

import with impunity or wait till june to realize a discount. not verified yet if Squeenix is making the paddle available in the US.

FoxhoundNL,

paddle is separate for $12-15. i already had it from Taito's Arkanoid release late last year. definitely looking forward to the Stateside release of these games at a budget price. i think the general consensus is that both are great for various reasons...so you can't go wrong with either. for folks with the two handhelds it seems an automatic purchase of both is necessary to fill out the SI:E experience!

Can you help me out with Space Invaders? I can't read japanese so I am having difficulty in figuring out what everything is. What is the point? I know your are supposed to shoot shit, but what is the strategy. To get chains? To shoot invaders of the same color? I just don't get what I'm supposed to be doing to boost my score.

YagizY,

check out the official SI:E Thread for the scoring system. RyanDG did a great job. here is what he had to say:

RyanDG said:
Color, Shape, Column, and Row are all important.

The easiest part of the system to understand is the basic chain system. Each time you shoot an invader, a chain counter begins and a timer starts. If you shoot another invader before the timer runs out, the timer resets and the counter increases. If you fail to shooter another invader, the chain resets to 0. This is important because you get an end stage bonus for the highest level your chain reaches and your chain directly influences your Rate (which is your multiplier).

If you shoot 4 invaders of one color in a row, the last invader drops an item upgrade based on color (blue = ddp laser, green = multishot, red = bomb, black = shield, white = nothing). White does not interrupt this, as white is sort of a "blank" enemy of sorts. It doesn't affect your meters or your chains in anyway, aside from the level chain described above. Once you get a weapon upgrade it starts decreasing based on a timer. It is possible to hold your weapon however by pressing the left or right shoulder button. When you do so, you revert back to your normal shot until let go of the button and resume the timer and item upgrade.

The feature meter in the game is the most important. To build up the feature meter, you have to destroy invaders in a specific order based on type or color. If you destroy 4 invaders of one color in a row followed by 4 invaders of another color (once again disregarding white), you get a rainbow ufo sent across the screen. If you destroy the rainbow UFO, you are sent to a bonus round that is determined by the color combination used to unlock it. If you successfully meet the objectives in the bonus round, the game rewards you with a Fever time that allows you to hit jackpot and super jackpot UFOs for a ton of bonus points.

The feature meter can also be used for other methods as well. If you hit 4 invaders of one type in a row followed by 4 invaders of another type, all of the invaders will turn to a specific color (usually last shot enemy from what I can tell) rewarding you with massive same color bonus points. If you hit 8 invaders of the same type in a row, the game rewards you by turning all of the invaders into UFOs which drop item upgrades. This gives you same type bonuses.

If in the process of building the feature meter, you destroy an invader that won't continue these chains, the meter resets and you have to start again from scratch. As with the other chains, White does not reset the meter (nor build it) as it once again is considered a "dead" invader of sorts for all purposes but the level chain.

You can also be rewarded points for same column and same row bonuses if the row or column as the wave starts is at least 4 wide or 4 deep. They don't have to be in the same column when you destroy the invaders so long as you destroy the 4 invaders that made up that column or row in a row without interruption. You can have this bonus multiplied if you repeat this action for a second column or row for a 2x, 3x, or 4x bonus depending on how many colums or rows you've destroyed in this manner in sequence. White's do count here, so be sure to look at those white invaders to make sure you are hitting them.
