The EU-spec GTI is a different beast with an improved engine (new EA888 engine in Europe instead of the "old" Mk5 engine for the 2010 US GTIs) and different set of extras. The mutli function steering wheel can be had as an extra here. I ordered mine with the following extras:
-18inch detroits
-ParkPilot (funny feature, does the whole sideways parking process for you), klick for vid
-RCD 310 radio
-auto wipers, auto darkening rear view mirror

I haven't read any of Murakami's fiction, but his book "What I talk about when I talk about running" was really good. Highly recommended.
