If ER didn't have its banger ass dlc, i'd go with BG3, but when you compare the whole ER package, it's gonna be difficult to surpass.

Because it won NeoGAF's 2021 GOTY.
They are both amazing games, imo. In my mind, BG3, Astro Bot and Elden Ring all have legit arguments to made for them. Halo Infinite, not so much.

Okay, I wasn't around here at that time. That makes sense now.
Also:
I will say that back in 2021 we didn't have the most secure method for tallying scores so that may have taken advantage of that at the time. That's why we developed an internal system for GOTY voting.

It kinda sucks that we can only vote for the years' winners... also, why 2020 isn't counted? shouldn't it be 2020-2029? or is it 2021-2030?

The winner in 2020 was Ghost of Tsushima which was very much a last gen game.

Really tough choice between Elden ring and Bg3.
I think in the end though Elden Ring gave some of the most breathtaking moments I've had in a video game, and that elevates it a bit above the rest in my view.
Walking out of the castle into Liurnia for the first time, climbing out of the depths after Astel and realizing you're on the top of that plateau you've been searching for a path to the entire game, the constant surprise and "wtf how big is this game" every time the map expands…
There is something truly special about Elden Ring.

Loved both ER and BG3, but I gotta give it to the feet fetish man from japan, ER was just firing on all cylinders for me, whereas the act 3 of BG3 felt like the game was unravelling before my eyes, it was buggy and littered with various other technical issues.

I love Halo. I'll always love Halo. I have yet to play ER or BG3 but I know I would enjoy them both. Elden Ring is high on my list of games to play.

Yeah, "kill wolves": they're incoming, you're trying to fight but after 3 hits they're running away - hide in the bushes again and wait 1 hour, catch them again to finish. 10/10 realism, never seen before.
