So you'd say, to put it simple, that Flipboard and Feedly shoud be used when I want to read news about a subject (for example, "apple", or "tech" from different sites), and Reeder and Pulse when I want to read news from a specific site?
I would put feedly in the category of Reeder and Pulse, in that you can view all the posts from a specific site or group of sites one by one, nothing missing.

Whereas Flipboard is more of an roundup of tech/apple/science/fashion centric news regardless of the source of the news, as long as it's popular it's up there. Not to mention the twitter and facebook integration, showing you anything grabbed from whatever your friends posted. They're different markets all-together imo, and until Flipboard has RSS-centric features as feedly or reeder do, it'll stay that way.

I'm enjoying Zite as an alternative to Flipboard. I basically use it as a headline news app, to look for stuff my Feedly RSS feeds don't cover. There's some minor issues, specifically with adding categories, but overall I like it a lot.

I just got an iPhone (again) when the 4S launched. I had a Droid X before and had a photo editing app I really liked called PicSay Pro. It basically let you draw on photos, add text, insert stupid clipart, whatever. Why in the blue hell can't I find anything remotely similar on the app store? All I really want to do is to be able to make crude drawings over my photos and upload them to Facebook. This shouldn't be so difficult.

EDIT: Finally found something called DoodleBuddy that let me do what I wanted.

Are there any good alternatives to Reminders.app yet? Love the UI for the most part but god damn, you can't even arrange the order or set the priority in any meaningful way?

An option to keep something in the notification are until it's done would be nice too!

Agreed. Reminders.app is more like sample code compiled into an application for testing than an actual useful application.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
I thought I'd recommend the mungogamer app here too. It's gaming related but not a game itself. It's an app and program combination that converts your iPhone into a racing wheel for PC & Mac racing games, complete with customisation and sensitivity, deadzone, and other such settings.

Any game that supports racing wheels should work with this app too. So far I've tried it with Trackmania United (which as a game works best with digital controls imo, but the app functioned properly still) and FlatOut2 (which was sweet).

Currently it's not Universal/iPad but it works fine on my iPad2. The developer wants to make an iPad version because there are certain drawbacks to using it in 2x mode I've written about here. Mostly hard to reach buttons. It should be ideal on iPhones though.

I highly recommend it. If you have no racing wheel for your desktop/laptop games this will allow you to get that sort of experience in quite high quality. If you do have one, you might still wanna use it when/if it's too much hassle to setup a racing wheel and pedals.

There's an official website with some youtube videos of it in action too, and the program you need to install on PC/Mac to communicate with the app.

And there's also a Lite version to try for free with various missing features that are probably explained in it.

Disclaimer: I got it for free after e-mailing the developer with some questions about a possible iPad version. But I really do love it!

Yup. It really is awful, yet I can't see any good alternative unfortunately. I just want something with a super simple interface, and timed notifications (since location based ones are seemingly useless and just destroy your battery)

Also these are worth a look:

Best apps of 2011: http://techcrunch.com/2011/12/17/the-top-20-best-iphone-and-ipad-apps-of-2011/

I think I should really update the original post sometime too...

@ Alex - that is a really awesome idea for an app, may give it a look, thank you!

Had a look at the list and the only thing that floats my boat is Flipboard. Personally don't feel like any of the other apps are that great.

The menu at the top is awful. It's so small I didn't even notice it at first. The menu is annoying to navigate. And how do I change the order the sections appear in?

I prefer both Flipboard and Google Currents. Although the loading in Google Currents is odd, and I still don't understand why Flipboard limits you to just four pages worth of content.

I think Zite is the best out there.
I like its old school look and relaxing mood it makes.

I still can't get into Flipboard.

Zite's recommendation engine is either hit or miss. I tried it for several months and it still wasn't pulling in articles that I liked, so I'd rather just have something that displays everything (like Flipboard).

Plus, Zite hasn't had any considerable updates in quite some time and Flipboard has been trouncing it on the UI scene. Zite has a really inconsistent UI and it bothers me for some reason (why so many different fonts?)

(I'm referring to the iPad versions)

About WeekCalendar, can I have it auto-sync everything I already have on the default iOS calendar/reminders apps?
It seems to show them just fine, but for some reason when I add events into WeekCalendar it doesn't automatically sync them to my Google one :(

Nightmare since WeekCalendar IMO destroys the competition, in particular with the autoicons feature.

(edit) Ignore that, must have been a one off lol, it syncs perfectly and instantly.

I really like Flipboard but it's unusable for me.

I have a few friends that post way too much crap on facebook. On facebook there's a way to hide their feeds but flipboard does not know or care about your filters. The only fix I can think of is to just defriend them but I think that's silly for just one app.

Then don't link it with your Facebook? Or just ignore that little FB box and you're fine.

I should clarify that I meant checking my facebook feeds through flipboard is unusable.

The thing is I like checking facebook through flipboard. The experience is much better than the normal facebook app. I just wish there was a way to only show feeds that I want instead of all feeds.

Ahh, interesting dilemma. I really love the FB iPhone/iPad apps, but it is cool to see LINKED posts (ie. posts where friends linked to something) in Flipboard. I still rather browse my FB stream in its app, personally.

Wow Flipboard (iPad) is great! The UI works so well and I'm finding it a much more interesting way of reading through my twitter feed.

I've tried it with Grid PC and it worked like a charm there too. Just a shame there are not many classic arcade style racing games on PC as I can't get into sims/faux-sims myself and arcade racers like NFS aren't doing it for me either (though I'd guess any prominent arcade emulators can also use wheels and by extension this app too).

Are there any other cool and/or free painting apps that simulate real world rather than photoshop tools similar to this watercolor app?

In the settings there's a "Muted Authors" setting that says "Mute by tapping their image or name and selecting "Mute".". Worth a try. :)

This has to have been answered. What is the best app for editing your Netflix queue? Pocket Flicks isn't available any more for some reason.

Is there an App that lets me directly stream almost any video file from my computer via wifi and play it on my phone?

I thought this air sharing app does it, but I just set it up and it cannot play any of the files when I clicked on them. :/

Streamtome, Airvideo, or Orb

I tried Airvideo but got Air Playit instead since it was free and did pretty much the same thing.
I would have preferred for it to not convert things though and have the videos play directly like in the VLC app I still have. If only VLC had some remote desktop access functionality built in as well.

^SkyView is fucking awesome, even the free one. Displays the planets and stars (as well as their orbits) over the camera view, using the GPS/gyros etc to accurately depict them on top of reality.

Only augmented reality app I have though, now that i think about it.

Thank you everyone for this thread, fantastic. After reading all the posts, I gotta say Snapseed is by far my favorite (photography junkie here). I'm gonna be playing with that for hours....
