I saw today 1Password is on sale.

I've been thinking about getting it for a while, but I still fail to understand completely how it works. Can someone explain it a bit?

Questions I have:
- Does it auto-complete passwords? That is, if I want to log in to gaf, or twitter, or to my bank app, will it put the password automatically for me? Or will I have to go to the app to retrieve it?
- Does it work well to store passwords? I started using different passwords for different sites/apps/services a few months ago. Right now, I'm starting to not being able to remember all of them.
- What prevents anyone from accessing my 1Password app? I mean, I don't understand why would I put all my different passwords for different sites under one single password. If I lost this password (the 1Password password (this is starting to sound silly :p)), would that mean I would have lost too all my passwords?

Hope someone can help!

1) You have to go into the app and retrieve it.

2) It's an awesome tool to store passwords, I've been using it on my PC/MAC/IOS devices and sync's it via your dropbox account (encrypted of course). It's really nice.

3) A numerical password has to be entered each time the app is re-opened. Once you enter the app, to view any single password for a site a master password has to be entered.

If you're looking for a password manager that is compatible with a lot of devices and has automatic backups to cloud + sync's without any user notice then go for 1password.

There is actually an old deprecated method for automatically filling out the username and password in Safari but Agilebits warns that it isn't very secure and they no longer support it. I still use it though

Speaking of beauty - for those like me who are absolutely bonkers for the Metro UI in WP7,

Believe me, I'd be all over a WP7 iPod Touch equivalent if Microsoft were smart enough to make one. I'm just not ready to commit to the WP7 ecosystem yet.

Back to iOS - I thought it couldn't get any better than Instacast (despite some minor playback issues), but then this thread led me to discover TuneIn Radio Pro.

OH. MY. GOD, App of the Forever, seriously. Podcasts + radio (including a crazy number of international stations!) wrapped in a beautiful interface. You can see stations' program schedules, record stations and even create automatic timed recordings! It's fucking bonkers, man!

So basically, it's flawless and as good a solution as I think anyone can possibly conceive. The first non-game app other than AppShopper and Air Video that I truly consider a 10/10.

Whoa, whoa, how do you schedule a recording??

And yes I was just telling somebody last week how Tune In Radio was my favorite and most used app on my phone. The developers are also pretty good with updates and changes to the app as well.

I can recommend Day One. Just bought it, and it's the nicest diary app yet, with a simple user interface, yet with a calendar view and password protection, even iCloud support.

Get SketchBook Pro while it's on sale, it's the greatest drawing app for iPad. Djay is half-price today as well!

I'm going to have to backpedal a bit in my praise of TuneIn Radio. Turns out its podcast list is really limited and it's hit or miss when adding custom podcast URLs. It doesn't find any of the Chinese language learning podcasts that Instacast aggregates with ease, and there's no way for users to make suggestions for them to add.

I'd really appreciate if someone could send me the correct custom URL to subscribe to the Popup Chinese poscast, and Melnyks' lessons as well. Thanks!

8.5/10 for now I guess :-(

Whats the difference between 1password and the pro version? I can't seem to find any info detailing the differences.

EDIT

Found my answer:

Universal App 1Password Pro is a universal application that works iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. It is like having two applications in one!

The Pro version is universal.

Can somebody explain the need for a podcast app like Instacast? What's so bad about listening to podcasts on the ipod/iphone/ipad itself?

Soooo

The Apple Greeting Card app is pretty badass. I just sent all of my cards out. Animations and presentation are very well done, also.

Needs more designs, though.

Getting new podcasts is a pain unless you sync to iTunes a bunch. Especially if you listen to many.

Wow. Is that really it? I never though clicking on the "get more episodes" button and then clicking "download" was all that hard, and I listen to ten or so podcasts. Well, Instacast isn't free, so I guess I won't be trying it out. Oh well.

Which "find the difference" type app (finding what is different between two nearly identical images) is the best? My mom plays a Facebook game of this type but it's not available on the app store, so I've been hunting for another good one.

I think photosynth is garbage. Ill stick with auto stitch panaroma.

Yeah, the second it asked me to switch my default search to Bing I immediately hopped out and deleted it. Also, it just didn't work very well from the 10 minutes I played with it.

I really hate how there are sparate stores. I tried to buy Stranger in a Strange Land off the iBook store but there's only a German version for 12 CHF (I'm in Switzerland). On the other hand, you can find an English version (which I'd greatly prefer) for 8$ in the US store. Fuck this shit

Back to 1Password...

How do you use this with GAF? Not even on iOS (I'm not there yet), but just with Safari in OSX. No matter how I try to save the password it doesn't work on GAF, I have to manually copy/paste the password from the 1password extension. Fuck that. If there's no easy way for this to work then I'm getting a refund.

Did you install the browser extension?

Sure did, that's how I'm copy/pasting the password (which works fine, so it's not the password). Just clicking the entry fails every time, no matter how I create it. I've tried both the automatic thing after you click login and also the manual method of doing it before. Takes me to GAF's "incorrect password" splash page every time.

Does anyone have a recommendation for any apps that turn your phone into a UPnP/DLNA host? I'm using AirMusic which seems to do the job, but you have to leave the app in the foreground, otherwise you need to keep going in there every 10 mins due to an Apple rule. Is there anything that gets around that that doesn't involve a jailbreak?

Unless there's a j/b out for the 4S, in which case... awesome.

I have saved about 100 sites passwords in Windows and OS X with Chrome, IE9, and Safari. I've had maybe two sites not work. On OS X make sure the password helper is running in the top bar, and you have extensions installed.

Oh, and use Dropbox. Definitely use Dropbox.

I'm using Dropbox, I have both an iPad and iPhone so it's not really an option.

MacRumors doesn't work either. Is it something with vBulletin? If that's the case then I'm getting a refund, at least 50% of my web browsing takes place on vB-powered websites.

EDIT: Also, I don't have a password helper bar at the top. There's never been one. However, the autofill works fine on a variety of other sites (Facebook, Amazon, eBay etc) so I don't think that's the problem.

Works for me. Are you using the version from the Mac App store or the version from the Agilebits website?

You like me, you really really like me!
Gotta recommend CloudScrob for those who want to scrobble music to last.fm from their iOS device.

No need to sync to iTunes, just open the app and it scrobbles your music instantly. Works with iTunes Match as well. Excellent app.

Agilebits, had to go with that one so I could get the Windows support too.

Could it be that the password is too long or something? I always do whatever the max it'll allow, so 50 characters for GAF. Works when I paste it in but not when I click the entry in the extension.

I can't say for sure. I'm using the version from the App Store and that's actually a newer version that the one from the website.

Just to crosscheck, the Single-Keystroke Login, Command-\, doesn't work?

Check your neogaf login entry in the 1Password and confirm it's got the right boxes ticked, like so (click on the edit button):

TrQso.png

Nope, keystroke login doesn't work either. Exact same thing.

My entry looks like this if I do the manual add..

fO9po.png

Looks the same if I do the auto add also.

EDIT: I just changed all my field values to the ones you have and deleted my old ones. Still nothing.

In other news, the Chrome extension can't even be installed. Chrome says "Package is invalid."

Is this company for real? WTF?

gonna keep pimping this until the end of time:

operation ajax is a graphic novel/motion comic that's currently free (iPad only). worth paying for as well once the free period ends. get it now while you can. 210 pages!

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cia-operation-ajax/id472099770?mt=8

Graphic novel of the year to say the least. Seriously, this has to win an award of some kind, it's the most exciting and innovative use of the art form in years.

Is there a way to read this on an ipod touch? Is the ipad really the only way to experience this?

Unfortunately, I think it's iPad exclusive for now. As far as I can tell, nobody else is doing motion graphic novels like this yet, Cognito Comics are really innovators in that regard.

There's Meanwhile for iOS, which is a choose-your-own adventure comic that uses the iPad well, but it's a very different type of experience without the top notch production value of Ajax.

Robot 13 is a motion comic for iPhone that's well regarded, haven't tried it.

And Square-Enix put out Imaginary Range awhile ago, a so-so combination of touch gaming and digital comic with a JRPG style plot. It has its moments, not great but with a better story, Square's approach could be fun.

Operation Ajax is head and shoulders above everything else in the category. Hopefully Cognito publishes another motion graphic novel soon!

Has anyone seen this app called Planetary for iPad? It's fucking amazing. And free. If you like space and planets and music and beauty, download it. I'll say no more.

It is quite amazing actually. Thanks for recommending it.
Yeah, especially great for those of us with huge libraries, really amazing to see your own galaxy filled with hundreds of stars, each representing artists. The planets=albums/moons = tracks is also quite genius.
