Pic Stitch is a great little app for people who like to take and post photos, it lets you design neat little montages and then easily share them via whatever you use (twitter, Facebook, instagram etc) - really fun, easy to use and FREE, although it's worth 99c to unlock the ad-free version. Here's one I just made:

is it worth using camera + over the ordinary camera?

Exposure control. I'm fairly certain the only thing you are changing is the shutter speed (and/or ISO) since your aperture is a constant f/ 2.8 on iphone4 and f/2.4 on 4s. At least in most photos I've taken.

That is actually pretty damn useful. Will check that out!

Instacast

I moved to instacast about a month ago. It's good, but beware. If you have multiple devices the inter-device sync is currently broken beyond all usefulness and is janky as hell. Airplay support is very poor as well. Unlocking/awakening your device can crash the app, loose your progress and what not constantly.

Downloading subscriptions on the device itself is a fantastic addition, but the jank makes thoughts of switching back always on my mind.

Is downcast the best podcast app?

I think I'm finally ready to move on from iTunes.

I got Downcast a month ago.
I like it quite a lot. I lets you rewind and fast forward using gestures, which I find super useful to skip ads from my podcasts when... driving. :p

The only thing I don't like (though I can't compare it to others) is that I still have to open and check the app every day to make sure that all the podcasts have been (correctly) downloaded.
Still, I feel like I can recommend it.

Is there a decent (and free!) IM client that will do MSN, Gmail and Facebook chat?

Verbs only does Facebook of those, and imo seemed to be awesome, but it just kicked me out of every account when I pressed 'sign off' (as in, I need to re-enter every username and password again) and also just messaged every single person in my contacts for no reason, with the imo web address

Thanks!

After trying out some more, Meebo is almost perfect - but you can't see the person's email address, so if you have 5 people in your contacts with the name 'Mark' or 'Jason' you may as well just guess as to who it is.

Sigh. The search continues!

I'm looking for a media collection manager app (like all the movies, games, etc I own). Anyone got any suggestions?
Hmmm, this would be pretty awesome. I remember an app I used to use on my mac back in the day called (iirc) Delicious. Ok I found it; http://www.delicious-monster.com/

But I don't think it's on iPhone, or it was then got pulled and then put back on, I dunno. I think amazon might have a similar type of app though.

[edit] yup, amazon were asses about it;

IM+ Pro is currently on sale for $1 and it's definitely worth it over the spotty free apps.

Does it really do much (anything?) that Camera+ can't though? I remember comparing the two and Camera+ being cheaper and also having more features, idk.

I own Camera+ and yes, it has a LOOOOOOT more features. Camera+ is actually quite basic in everything from it's blurring techniques to arbitrary filters.

Only thing I can think of Camera+ having over Snapspeed (editing wise) is some simpler border designs. Other than that, it blows it out of the water.

Just getting a hang of the gestures/UI methods and it feels like you're doing some quality desktop photoshop editing on a mobile device.

I'm dying to buy it when I get the chance. If it had a more focused/proprietary camera app built in (other than the basic 'take photo' option) I would definitely be using it instead of Camera+.

Okay, cool - I'll add it into the OP again then, thank you!

I actually bought it due to someone's recommendation in this thread, but I didn't really like it an awful lot, hence it was removed after some people mentioned Camera+ as an alternative.

I don't know, when was this? Perhaps it's received a substantial update since then? Not sure, but I loved it, it's quite advanced beyond any of my current photo editing apps at this point. Used it on an iPhone btw.

Also, Video Stream is excellent. It works and looks better than AirVideo, in both sorting and general performance.

Plus, you can store videos locally if you want (through iTunes for example) like that old VLC app worked. Definitely replacing AirVideoFree for me.

CNN had a story this morning on a communication app designed by some special forces dude from Yale after returning from Afghanistan...

Voxer

It's free, it's like a walkie-talkie, with texting and photos also.

Looks pretty messy and ugly. The reviews about how people get random contacts are also pretty bad.

Don't bother with Pop camera. Not worth it. It's an interesting idea and well designed but the functionality is questionable. It will take sequential shots and apply filtetrs but filters are restricted to each camera so if you like a filter in one camera, you can't use it in another. Also it doesn't align the subject correctly to make the multi-shots worth it.

Yeah some of the design decisions are odd, and lack of options. Hopefully it will improve.
I just tried it out but no random contacts yet so maybe they fixed that...

What is the best app for editing Word files (.doc or .docx). I've seen a couple on the app store that have mixed reviews. Anyone have a recommendation? I'd love to work on my writing via my iPad.

Lol, those Voxer reviews! Don't think I've ever seen so many consecutive 1* reviews.

@Angmars - have you tried Pages? It's not cheap but looks very good to me.

Also, I've updated the OP with IM+ as the app of choice, it's amazing, thanks again for the recommendation.

Pages is really good apart from the patchy dropbox support. You need to email it back to yourself to get the doc back onto a desktop machine (or maybe you can sync and get it off there)...

I use IMO instant messenger and it's fantastic. And free, from the looks. I actually paid some outrageous amount for Beejive but IMO is far better. Haven't tried IM+.

I used to use IMO until I found out that some of my messages weren't getting delivered.

I went with Pages based on the recommendation here and some reviews online. So far so good. Thanks!

IMO is awesome. Never tried IM+ either. I think 99 cents is the new permanent price since they've added ads to the paid version.

Pages is very good. Make sure you spend some time to mess around with learning keyboard shortcuts, like option-arrow and shift-arrow to select words and lines. Makes "missing mouse syndrome" much more bearable.

I just save stuff to iDisk then drag anything I need on my desktop from the Finder.

works for Gamestop (lol)
Can anyone recommend an alarm app that can alarm you throughout the day, like every 2 hours or something? Free preferably cause I'm cheap

Hmm, i'm pretty sure I have something can do that called Countdown Me. Not sure though, so check it out and see. It's definitely free.

I'm looking for a really simple app that can be used for time tracking. Now, I want very simply time tracking...nothing that does this complicated billing or anything. basically, at work, it'd be nice to know how much time I spend on fixing an issue. Ideally, I'd be able to hit a button to start tracking and then a button to stop tracking time and it'd be continuous until then. Even better is the ability to handle multiple issues at the same time. I may just need to write some kind of javascript web app to do this myself...
