The "Reading List" and "Reader" features in Safari are not the same thing as Instapaper. Reading List is basically bookmark sync among various devices. Reader is reformatting the page to focus on the content. Neither one allows you to save articles for offline reading, which is the killer use case for Instapaper.

Reader is the same thing as Readability :p

Guys, I'm looking for an app that lets me track the episodes I've already seen from the series I watch.
I've used theTVDB before, but I don't like it relies on internet connection so much.
Any suggestions?

MyEpisodes, the website is great, never used the iPhone app though sorry. Web version should be just fine though!

Any system that automatically populates episode lists is going to use the internet, any system that doesn't automatically populate episode lists is going to be at best a spreadsheet.

I personally use XBMC as a media center and have it auto-scrobble watched episodes to trakt.tv, but if you're asking in an iOS thread you presumably want an independent database program. So, sorry, no suggestions :p

I think the most important feature that Echofon has over the other clients is the syncing. I read tweets on my Mac, iPad and iPhone. So having the timelines synced, so I don't have to read the same tweet twice, and that it automatically starts where I left off on the other devices, makes it much easier to stay up to date on the twitterverse.
Twitterrific has this as well, it's another very good Twitter client imo.

There's a new Twitter app that just came out, saw this from Leo Laporte's Tweet last night. Twittelator-Neue on sale for $1.99. There's a video here...the UI looks clean and I like the picture preview embedded into the timeline. Don't think I'll switch from Tweetbot though.

Oh, it's iOS5 only

I never got an answer, is there any free apps that let me simultaneously post to twitter and facebook?

Just enable Twitter on your facebook page. All your twitter posts (except @ responses) go automatically. Some you can also make only tweets with #FB post.

Alright, what is the best, cheapest, remote desktop app for iOS and Mac OSX?

Wow, that really is stunning!

Feel bad leaving so many amazing apps out of the OP, but trying to keep to apps that have a broad appeal, what does everyone think to that? Is the OP even going to be useful? :D

The Stone Twitter app looks pretty damn good too, although as you said, maybe not enough to tempt me away from Tweetbot...

What are people's onion on notes apps? I noticed someone recommended AwesomeNote which seems a great shout to me - absolutely packed with awesome features, but maybe at times the interface is a little overwhelming and clunky? The regular notes app is a lot quicker too.

OP, Tweetbot now has timeline syncing via Tweetmark. I use it between Tweetbot on the iPhone and Twitterific on my iPad. It works great.

I still use Instapaper more than just about any other app. That, Reeder, Twitter, Mail, and the indispensable NeoGAF web app are, by far, my most-used apps.

Thanks for the heads up on Tweetbot/Tweetmark, have updated the OP!

When it comes to VNCs I'm not sure I'd recommend either of the ones I've used - air mouse isn't really all that, and LogMeIn is very expensive :(

Remoter is decently affordable and I use it. Seems focused on Mac a lot. If itap vnc is as good as the itap rdp then it should be at the top of the list. Itap is fantastic.

Question: I used the iPod app for podcasts, until everything got changed around with this recent update.

What is the best app for podcasts?

Right now I'm using Instacast, based on comments in the iOS5 thread. I like Instacast a lot, but I'm not sure how to delete podcasts after I listen to them. I'm used to swiping across each podcast and a big red delete button appearing, but apparently Instacast doesn't work like that...

With Instacast the "edit" button appears to remove the podcast show (not an individual episode) from your favorites list, there is no edit button when you're viewing the list of individual podcast episodes.

I think if you're going to make a Best of iOS thread it would be best to keep the OP going with recommendations. Sure the thread is only a couple of pages now and it's easy to skim over but, assuming it takes off, no one is going to want to weed through 50-100+ pages to seek out ideas and ultimately the thread will degenerate into repeated "Which app is right for me?" requests.

It would be nice to have something to point to.

I'll just list my most used apps, which are my favorites too:

Best camera apps:
- Default camera app
- Pro HDR (makes the default HDRs look lifeless in comparison)
- Snapseed (feature rich and amazingly designed picture editing app)
- Instagram

Best RSS app:
- Reeder

Best radio app (especially for those of us outside the US!)
- TuneIn Radio

Best social networking/messaging:
- Whatsapp
- Twitter Official

Best app store guide:
- App Shopper (push notifications for price drops is wonderful)

Best file sharing:
- Dropbox

Best movie app:
- Flixster

Best miscellaneous:
- SoundHound (free with unlimited tags)
- Genius Scan (amazing digital scanner!)
- Converter+ (conversion calculator for any measurement you could think of)

Honorable mentions go to Camera+, Hipstamatic, Photosynth, Slow Shutter, iLoader 2, Skype, and Foursquare.

Apple's new Movie Trailers app seems to be rivaling Flixter now. Beautiful UI with trailers, movie times, rotten tomatoes, etc.

I wish the orientation wasn't inverted though. I hope they fix that.

Loads of great apps again thanks guys, will try to update the OP with as much as I can

Also is the Apple Movie Trailers app not available in the UK or something?

Is it too early to suggest Dungeon Raid?

If not, Dungeon Raid. :3
Dungeon Raid is so fun. Shits all over Puzzle Quest imo.

It's fun to introduce to friends, watch them get hooked, let them fool around with it for a few days, and then blow their minds with a skill combo like using the one that turns everything collected during a turn into coins, using a skill that collects all of a given icon (the one that turns potions into XP being my favorite), using a skill like Masochism (that turns all coins into skulls), kill all the skulls, get all coins again since using the "collect all ___" skills doesn't use a turn, and then use the Double Coins powers to fill up the coin meter a few times in one go. Do that with the class that gets +1 defense for killing 15 or more enemies and you have a pretty damn unstoppable combo.

Really wish whoever made it would make either a sequel or something new, last I checked the only other thing they've done is some lame looking "Touch the screen to make neat-looking plants" thing.

Besides that, I think it's the simple apps that I find the most useful. Being able to quickly check account balances with the BofA app is really convenient.

Lots of debate still going on about news readers, so maybe time for a poll? Feedly/Pulse/Reeder?

Also curious to hear peoples opinion on the notes app - any objections to me putting AwesomeNote as the recommended one? Not used anything that comes close. Maybe EverNote as a free alternative, but mehhh

After updating to the latest version of feedly, i'm a bit disappointed.

They added some nice stuff, but what they removed is the list access that would appear on the left, where I could see all my 'tech' feeds compiled, or 'gaming' feeds, or individual sites within those compilations.

Now you can't access that list as far as I can tell, some reviews on iTunes notice the same thing so I hope they bring it back and increase its speed a bit, switching between feeds is slower than before.

However, I always thought feedly was the only free rss app worth looking at, but pulse is free as well? Are there limitations to this free version or?

Hmm, yeah good shout I guess. Pulse is indeed free and worth a look.

Also note that Reeder is winning that poll now fairly comfortably, but have the people that voted used Feedly/Pulse I wonder? I've used all three and struggle to see why anyone would choose Reeder above the other two tbh.

Hootsuite is what you are looking for, if you don't want to tie your twitter account to facebook.

I use Pulse. Tried Reeder but I find I just gravitate towards the visual browsing aspect of Pulse everytime.

That said, my recommendation for apps is still ComicGlass. Impeccable content formatting. I think CloudReaders is the best all-purpose document reader, but ComicGlass really is perfect for visual stuff.

(That being said the cache problem with all of these readers is a serious issue, so it will be interesting to see how it shakes out with Apple.)

? Is that the iPad version? I can still see my folders (from google reader) in the feedly iphone version. I don't think i have the newest update on the iPad because it's still running 4.3.3

I use Feedly on the iPhone and River of News on iPad. I've previously used Reeder, Pulse, Newsrack and a couple more besides those mentioned.

I would add "Slacker Radio" for Best streaming music. It's more like satellite radio then Pandora but you can tweak the radio station by playing more recent vs old tunes .... or more mainstream vs fringe.

Hmm, I don't have access to a list like that as it was previously, how are you seeing it? I'm on iPhone btw.

Can you edit photos with instagram or just share them?
Yes, that's all I use it for tbh. You have to login once though and after that you can use it whenever offline.

Reeder just seems boring, uninspired and honestly quite cluttered when compared to feedly (which by the way, has Reader built in) and Pulse tbh.

Slacker Radio looks interesting - is it completely free, like Pandora?
