NeoGAF's best of iOS

Right so a new potential consumer knows nothing about this thing, notices some fuss and asks what the big deal is because he's curious about investing and he gets this kind of response? No wonder I'm dubious about how genuinely good this product is or whether it's just a bunch of cultish fanboys - hardly a rarity on a gaming site!

Not like I was trolling or slagging it off FFS. LOling hard at something like that? Smeone's a bit too keen I reckon.
The first part of your post implied you had used it but didn't see anything different, so it came off like you told us all that we're just falling for good marketing. Re-reading it, it can be taken either way. So sorry, but going by everyone else's responses to you, some others read it that way too.

He's an Apple fanboy. Don't question any Apple-exclusive product or you're going to get it.
Really? Show me where I've ever done this.

Wasn't sure where else to ask this...

For people who use Pulse, when you share on Facebook does it only post on your timeline and not the news feed? How do I fix this?

I just got a new iPad. Never had one before - it's awesome.

I am trying to determine what is the best way to do the following:

  • Import photos to my computer (an iMac)
  • upload them, either automatically or manually, to some website for storage
  • Easily access them on my iPad, either via an app or via a website

What's the best way to do this? The point is to not actually store any of the photos on the iPad.

Also, I want to be able to upload and view the photos in full resolution, not some compressed garbage like a Facebook album.

I've tried out Launch Center Pro and I think it's kinda dumb. It's like an app for people who don't organize their stuff and want another home screen. Or really want to save that 1 second it takes to get into a folder

I bought it yesterday and it just so happens to work well with many of the apps that I consistently use, namely Omnifocus, Simplenote, Day One and Tweetbot.

What I like about it is that it will bring up a text prompt ahead of opening a respective app, meaning I can compose a new task in Omnifocus, a note in Simplenote, a journal entry in Day One or a tweet in Tweetbot from within Launch Center Pro before sending it off to the app. In a lot of cases this takes about the same amount of time or steps as opening the app, but it also lets me clear these apps off of first page and gives me replace them with other commonly used apps.

Is that worth $3? I dunno. I don't really care, though, because it's $3.

iCloud? Through iPhotos on your iMac.

are we allowed to discuss jailbreak apps here? i got tetherme in cydia for $5 and it works well so far. i wish there was a way to set a custom ssid or hide mine, but i guess it is fine

So first I'd need the newest version of iPhoto on my iMac then, right? iPhoto 11?

And then what happens? I import photos taken on my DSLR into iPhoto, and it will send them to iCloud? But there must be a storage limit, right? What if I take a ton of photos?

No problem to discuss JB Apps, although clearly if someone were to post Installous, or something else piracy related, we'd ban them.

It saves the latest 1000 photos in the cloud.

When I import my photos from my DSLR to iPhoto they are automatically viewable on iOS devices and Apple TV.

I'm going on vacation soon, and it'll be the first time I don't bring my Macbook with me. The iPad will be taking its place. Are there any apps at all that could be useful for me? Not looking for anything specific, just anything useful or awesome to kill time or help me out.

iPhone's coming with me, too, primarily as a camera. I've never really been interested in other camera apps, and the stock app does the job for me, but I'm curious: do other camera apps really make huge improvements in image quality?

hey guys, I need some advice. I got an iPad 3 as my birthday's present last saturday, though I already have a jailbroken iPhone 4, I'd like to know which are the most recommended apps for this shiy iPad 3, I already jailbroke it.

That's kind of the point of this whole thread. Look at the first post, and then go from there.

Any recommendations on a rewards card/barcode card app. I know iOS6 has passbook coming but I think its going to be a while before most companies get on board.

You guys see the article on the hidden menu in Tweetbot? Go to Settings and scroll to the bottom with the copyright message. Tap three times with two fingers, one on each edge and you can turn on Tweet streaming over 3G and enable What the Trend which is cool

Probably for testing authentication. Oauth is what is used to sign into Twitter of it doesn't use the Twitter account on the phone.

Why not just use the inbuilt personal Hotspot?

gigs, does it have the 50MB cellular limit?

It does. I just tried Apple's Podcast app out and got the usual warning when trying to download over 50MB. The app does have an option for automatic downloads, but I'm guessing that means when you open the app it will auto download. We'll see the next time one of my podcasts update.

Pretty sure it does. I don't really watch video podcasts on my phone…

Vergecast is routinely over 50MB per episode, although I guess it's not worth listening to now that the Joanna Stern is gone.

Still, that limit means Instacast got a reprieve on my devices.

The Vergecast:
Listen to Josh pontificate for two hours
Listen to Ross Miller fail to keep things on track
Listen to Nilay actually get something intelligent out about twice an episode
Listen to Paul Miller tell an incredibly uninteresting story about his boring life - stuttering his way through the entire tale

It's a bit expensive, but the iPad version of Phaidon's 1000 Design Classics is really very nice.

Funny though, the OG iPhone is the 1000th object but the Galaxy S III doesn't appear to have an entry. Presumably an oversight.

Wow. The Apple podcast app looks great but is just utterly horrible on my iPhone 4. Just not stable at all. Some podcasts won't delete, I've had it hard freeze just trying to add a podcast from the store and from trying to play something it had already deleted.

EDIT: I'm about done with Instacast too. Hard to believe it got so laggy/bloaty since I bought it not too long ago, but the lag on loading makes me wonder if they just dev on the 4S. Somebody suggested downcast, right?

I get hella Dieter Rams vibes from WTHR. I actually think an entire OS that looked like it would be pretty gorgeous.
