New Dragon's Dogma Preview and Details

Be prepared to receive over a million RC. I checked my Pawn the other day (I haven't touched the game in 10 months) and I had a lot of gifts and RC waiting for me. It was crazy.
I don't know if I can handle all that love.

Can't wait for all of those rotten food gifts.

Shouldn't the inclusion of, "- optional install for high res textures/faster load times" be included in the OP?

I remember hearing something about this and I'm not sure what console it effects the most or what it's affect on performance is, but it's a step in the right direction...

But I'm holding my money hostage for now and not double dipping unless DA releases on PC.

Never played the original version, but am looking forward to playing the new version. DD looks awesome in the gameplay vids I've seen

The preview from DTOID mentions that Death stalks and ambushes the player a la Nemesis from RE3. Awesome.

The difference is, it also has the same cumulative health system that the ur-dragon had. So you can actually kill it.

Man, I would say that I can't play this game anymore because, the amount of inane back tracking needed to ju....

Furthermore, owners of the original Dragon’s Dogma will receive 100,000 Rift Crystals, unlimited Ferrystones and the Gransys Armour Pack consisting of six brand new costumes for free, upon purchasing Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen.

SOLD!!!

Fuck, id rather that the Pawns talk MORE

I would rather pawns spoke more naturally.

Now in Japanese!

オオカミは群れを成して獲物を追う!

On the one hand I've preordered this for £14.
On the other I don't think I can handle the god awful IQ, framerate and letterbox picture format.

No idea what to do. Might just cancel and wait for a PC port. Like with RDR.

Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? Yes Arisen? That is neat as hell. With all of it's quirks, the game is really it's own thing and that is why I love it.

Wanted the original until I played the demo. Now this preview has rekindled my wanting.

I remember not liking all of the text on screen and some other little things. I forget.

Mod support would be nice, but the technical issues are overblown. Yes the framerate can be bad as a Mystic Knight, but overall it's competent for old hardware. Some people here make it sound like it's unplayable.

So just to be clear ... I DO have to buy the 40 dollar disc... I CAN transfer my entire 500 hour + character save slot to the new shits and having my save in place nets me RC and an infinite Ferrystone...

Am i all caught up?? I can't wait to play this mother fucker but i'm trying to decide if i should just take my initial disc in with me to trade at GS

It's not bad, but could be much better. I'd pay 60 again just for this on PC to get rid of the tearing, loading, and poor framerate

if they are gonna add more items, then they also need to streamline the item inventory system, make it less cumbersome, slow. and a chore.

You're a horrible person.

I'm the same way. I'm also a horrible person.

No new achievements, no buy. I want some kind of meta game/reward to gamerscore to play it. I had immense satisfaction when Ur Dragon was killed and I heard that loveable achievement sound after such a epic 2 hour battle. I can look back at my accomplishment by looking at the achievement knowing that I defeated the hardest boss in the game. That's just how I roll.

There was some tearing but it hardly detracted from the game. Considering what it was throwing around, fantastic spell effects and lighting on 8 year old hardware, I didn't even dream of graphics like this when 360 came out in 2005. They really squeezed as much as they could from it. Capcom's MT Framework engine for this gen is one of the best.

I'm sorry it's always interesting to see someone like you just because your mindset is the complete antithesis to my own. Make no mistake I'm not putting you on blast here, I just don't understand how a game having no achievements would stop you considering it seems you have invested quite a bit of time in the original game. Isn't there enough satisfaction from simply playing and beating the content? Why do you need an achievement to pop up to validate anything?

Not a rhetorical question either, I'm genuinely curious.

An imaginary number is serious business, yo.

Yes, exactly.

After you beat the game, you never have to play through that again; select "Load Game" after completing it and you'll skip the Prologue and go right into character customization. If you already beat it and selected "New Game" instead, I think you're out of luck until beating it again, thanks to the one save only.

If you want to make adjustments to your character's looks, talk to the guy standing next to the riftstone in the encampment; he sells an item (for Rift Crystals, not Gold) that lets you customize your Arisen and Pawn from the main menu.

It's more social when there's achievements. I won't lie its a bit bragging-ish but its also a way to show how skillful you are to the world (most of the time).

I only try and get ALL the achievements for games I really enjoy and like, such as this one. They go hand in hand with great games for me. It feels like you've done everything when there are goals in place with achievements and you 100% them.

I also don't buy that BS of making your own goals in games. No one will know or care you did it except you (such as using level one characters or default equipment all the way through).

With achievements its universal and people will either have unlocked them or not. It's a measure of how much you like the game and how much you have invested your time into it and where you stand against others. It's almost a competitive metagame in its own right. Especially with long games like this.

Basically it almost feels like I'm doing a disservice if I don't get all the achievements for a fantastic game like Dragon's Dogma, Final Fantasy XIII or Skyrim.

These will be classified as different achievements from the original DD even if the majority are the same right? I never bought the original but i would but the original and DA if they count as different achievements.

Some of the new features that come with Dark Arisen:

- Pawns talk less
- Over 100 new items
- 25 new monsters

The most interesting info in this vid is probably at 1:55, when he says that there will now be a fixed Portcrystal network in place (he actually says Ferrystone, but it's clear that he means Portcrystal). That's what the game always needed; not too many, and not in perfect places so that you still need to do a bit of travelling, but at least some so that you didn't have to make ridiculous end of the world to end of the world treks.

Speaking of which, what places would you guys like to see Portcrystals placed? I'm assuming they'll probably be anywhere that already has an Inn:
  • Gran Soren (obviously already in)
  • Cassardis
  • The Encampment
  • Greatwall Encampment
  • Traveller's Rest
  • Rest Camp
That already covers most of the map without eliminating the need to travel entirely.

"Existing fast travel network" should be in the OP. By far the thing I liked least about the game.

Urgh, I don't know what to do about this. I REALLY don't want to start a new character, but at the same time I'm likely severely overleveled for the new content (Lv. 90+), so there's a good chance it won't be any challenge at all with my current character, even on Hard. =/

It's certainly interesting to see this kind of logic, as I am also quite the opposite. Like, Dark Souls is my favorite game this gen, but I spent more time doing stuff like 'level 1 runs' than trying to 100% the game. Typically even in a game like that, achievements to me seem more like 'time invested' rather than 'skill' or 'accomplishment'.

Did you try to 100% games prior to achievements being a thing?

I read this post in Whiskey Nerd's voice.

They should have a straight up fast travel to any location you've been to system ala Skyrim.

This one issue really got to me when I was playing this.

The framerate, minor tearing, letterboxing, ect didn't detract from my experience hardly at all, but all that walking from one end of the map to another got really fucking old.

Also, Question ---

I still have my save file, when I get Dark Arisen will I be able to get the rift crystals, ferry stones and new armor?

I just watched the Gamespot Dark Arisen gameplay video. There's a boss that was wrecking the Capcom provided level 50 party, including the player character who had a "rapid health regen" cheat enabled by the devs for demonstration purposes.

He still died.
