After seeing what can be done by PhysX and Havok 4 on PS3, I wouldn't say it's out of reach.

You sure about that? Even the PhysX demo specific for water just had some blobby stuff.

I'm guessing there's some trick here, like a canned animation 'spray' for the water.

Music is Unlimited Saga Hamazu...

Really? ?? Did anyone else here love the Unlimited Saga OST ?

So if the Kingdom Hearts team is working on XIII Versus, is the Yoko Shimomura doing the music? (She did Kingdom Hearts)

There was a car tech demo I believe that shown something awesome in that matter. And I'm talking about physics and form of the water, it didn't have all the shaders to make it look that real, but that's what should be done in games themselves. Look at Lair and it's giant sea with water looking and moving as real as you can get, and Warhawk, where it reacts to the plane flying over it. Pretty awesome stuff. All the dev needs to do is take the ready physics engine, and combine it with their rendering engine.

And yeah, you might be, and probably are right about the canned animation. It could actually be just a pre-made summoning animation. If that's the case, then I see nothing impossible there, given the fact that Square has some of the best graphics designers.

Like everyone else, I find the concept of Motorshiva incredibly stupid. Especially when I read that she'll have a bike wheel attatched to the back of her skull.

But then again, this is the same series that had you ride a giant whale to the moon, so I'll give them the benefit of a doubt.

have they changed lightning's cg model a bit? she looks older and sterner in the new shot. maybe they just told her about the motorcycle summon.

Her hair and nose look a bit different to me.

Absolutely bloody amazing!

I love this idea of 'natural' and 'human'-created machines. I've always been intrigued by the idea of technology being some kind of natural extension of evolution. Would be cool if FFXIII explored something like that.

Anyway, more Shivabike craziness, please! Never stop pissing off the silly fans, div 1 - it's what you guys do best. :D

This just goes to show you that a couple well placed screen shots can erase a lot of fears about a game, not to mention hyping purposes, and getting threads on track like they should be.

*The Screen Thread God*

(go back to hyping the game plz)

If summons were created by the crystals, then it kinda makes using them by Lightning, a conflict of interests. If she wants to destroy the crystal, why would she use it's powers?

The official tagline is that she's "chosen by the crystals to bring ruin on mankind", not on the crystal. There are multiple crystals, and the ones from the upper world and lower world are in opposition.

But they can't be going back to FFVII's "use CG each time you summon" in this modern day and age.

Summons in FFVII were rendered in real-time with the normal game engine. They can have relatively high-poly models because they take the place of three characters, but that's all. I think one of the Grandia games used pre-rendered video for summons (or just powerful spells?), maybe you've got that in mind? The first FF to show summons in PRV at all was IX.

There's people from both the FFX and FFX-2 teams working on this.

er, the FFX-2 team was just the half of the FFX team that wasn't diverted to FFXI/XII or Kingdom Hearts or Unlimited Saga or Front Mission. Except for the music composers, nearly all of the "people from the FFX2 team" were also "people from the FFX team"

Honestly I think Kitase is the only director that can make Final Fantasy still feel like Final Fantasy. I expect many to disagree and I already accept that, but honestly he's directed all of my favorite FF games (aside from VI) and I'm honestly looking forward to FFXIII on the same level I was anticipating FFVIII and FFX, which is insane.

I thought FFXII was the best as far as gameplay and content; it was a killer game that belongs in the FF rank just as much as the others, IMO. But story wise, I wasn't a big fan. I think it's a great game and while I did get a small FF "feel" from it, I felt they dropped the ball in other areas.

He co-directed FFVI too. :D

Yeah, I agree. I haven't finished FFXII, mind you, but so far I just don't like the way the story is progressing (just got out of the Vieira forest). Not enough time is devoted to the characters, I just don't know anything about any one of them, which makes caring for them pretty difficult.

The overall story is good, I like the political intrigue, but I just feel so disconnected from it, a feeling I've never had with previous FFs- where I just couldn't stop playing just to see what would happen next. In FFXII, I care more about leveling up and hunts than the main game.

are there any hi-res version of these screenshots? I wanna make one of them my wallpaper :)

Agreed.

I love Kitase FF :D

I'm always up for a Kitase FF. Will he ever do another?

Will he ever work as closely on one as he did on FFVII and FVIII? No, now that he's been 'promoted' to producer status he'll be overseeing the work of Toriyama and other directors, just like Sakaguchi did before him.

Having said that, he seems to be quite involved in the development of the White Engine and all the FFXIII games.

What did you see? And when did you see this????????????

Even though he was only a producter in FFX, he was its main writer alongside Nojima (Kitase wrote about half of the story and created most of the concepts). Seems like the same with FFXIII, as many of the story's concepts revealed so far are very Kitase-ish, imo.

don't know if this is old but according to play magazine the game will come out in europe in late 2008
