Anyway come on guys, have a little more faith in Square,I'm sure they can integrate this nicely without looking weird or absurd.

If you can respect FFX and FFVII as two different universes, then you certainly should respect FFXIII as one. FFVII seems like 1930s + magicks. FFX seems like ancient times + fantasy. FFXIII seems like year 3000 + magick + crystals + fantasy.

Aztec played Blitzball? wow !

I liked advent children, dont really give a **** about how the hardcore elitist dicks view the movie.

Final Fantasy X was the best FF last gen.

MechaShiva sounds retarded.

Why is amirox so unhappy?

Shiva turning into a motorcycle? Wouldn't that be better suited to Ifrit?

Anyway, that sounds totally stupid. Way to screw up my favorite series Square...

It looks amazing in those scans, I never have the time for Final Fantasy but I always pick them up because I loved them when I was younger and had more free time. This should be jaw dropping, and really the chick turning into a motorcycle isn't that big a deal, racing f'ing chocobos was more embarrasing.

So, I read this thread through quickly, but if I understand correctly, Amirox you don't like the fact that Shiva can transform into a motorcycle?

I think I'm gonna have to agree. It doesn't feel like Final Fantasy, well at least to me anyway. Maybe it will be very cool, I'm gonna have to so know more about it.

I think the reason im excited for FFXIII is that its pretty different to the other final fantasys, it's set in a metalic future and well, doesn't seem to be in an "old age" theme like 9 and 12 are.

Phantasy star has spoiled me for themes.

Maybe it's juste for a single combined attack with a cutscene.
You ride shiva, she gives you speed + ice power and after the attack she run away.

FFIX has Arck who is a transformer and I don't find the cutscene weird.

I don't really mind. Shiva, Ifrit, Alexander, etc "are" airships in FFXII. The summons(in "walking" mode or whatever) probably won't look anything like the classic designs, anyway. Would you people had thrown shitfests if the ugly and useless pieces of shit espers in FF12 had been named after FF6's espers? :P They're just names.

I'll reserve my judgement until I see clearer media, but I really don't mind something new coming out of this series.

edit: well uh it really is Shiva riding a bike...

Oh, Final Fantasy.

I truly and genuinely believe that the minds behind Final Fantasy have become somewhat warped due to the franchise's success and the assignment of great depth and symbolism by fans when it really isn't there, similar to what has happened to George Lucas. Don't get me wrong, Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back are my favorite films but when fans take shit way too far, we've seen what happens. Lucas gets delusions of grandeur, tries to make his awesome epic masterpieces to live up to the legend--but it's just lame.

I'm not saying FFXIII will be a bad game by any means, but I definitely have been seeing some of that attitude in this series for a while now. I don't know who the hell would actually think a summon turning into a motorcycle is actually awesome but with the existence of works like Advent Children it's quite clear that the creators think stuff like this is just the pinnacle of...something. I was hoping FFXII was a step in the right direction but I'm not too confident in this game. I'm sure it will be very well made in many respects and people will love the hell out of it and reviewers will invent new scoring scales just to give it as much praise as possible. I just hope it doesn't get too wrapped up in itself to the point of utter lunacy.

Shiva turning into a motorcycle isn't any worse to me than a castle turning into a summon imho. In other words, if the CG or the Real-Time rendering and animation is cool and they look cool, why not.

You realize that a lot of people love Advent Children right?

You also realize you sound pretty dumb for coming to retarded conclusions based on a ****ing SUMMON POWER. Holy shit, some of you live to overexaggerate.

Just stfu and wait until, oh I don't know, someone in the world plays it or we see more than 5 screen shots.

Yeah.

I'm drawing these conclusions based on several games, a movie, and various details.

Just stfu and wait until, oh I don't know, someone in the world plays it or we see more than 5 screen shots.
Well I do think it'll probably play pretty well.

this thread requires a title change! "Nomura has gone mad! Shiva turns into a motorcycle :´("

next thing you know Lighting turns out to be a man, not a girl v_v

I haven't read through the thread fully..and now I won't..I stopped when I read that shiva can turn into a mortorcycle....

WHAT.THE.****

Seriously some people need to shut it. "When this coming to 360?", "I'd play it if ti came to 360", "lol 4D".
It is getting old.

FF hasnt been FF since FF5 anyway so I know what to expect.
...

The series stayed pretty true to its roots up to FFIX, I'd argue. XI is when things seriously started to change. X was kind of a transition point between traditional and new.

Why would you want to ride a motorcycle in a battle?

I'm not sure what world you guys live in, but the FF games that I've been playing have plenty of whacked out ideas. This isn't any farther out there than any of the other weird shit. And I freaking love the series. I think this quote isn't getting the idea across exactly but I think fans of FF will embrace it, whatever it is.

I actually agree. Except I've never had any use for FF, or any other RPG not named Panzer Saga. But it's been amusing reading the reactions on both sides of the ledger. This honestly doesn't sound anymore stupid to me then any of the other shit this series has had before. But I can certainly understand why longtime fans are pissed. :lol

The Shadow pic is poignant BTW...the entire forum ripped the game to pieces simply because of pics showing him holding a gun and riding a bike. Yet half the same people are mortified that the same thing is being done to FFXIIIIII, or whatever the **** the number is. It seems that prejudging negatively is only a sin when it's done to a series that they jack off to. But I knew that already.

HOLY SHIT.
A few weeks ago I made some joke about how you'd ghost ride the whip to boost your summon powers. Now it turns out it might be true!

Because in one moment it's easy to believe in talking dogs and animals, the ability to do magic, airships using magical power, fluffy-cute magical creatures, big yellow ridable chickens with armor, the ability to wield swords 4x your size, walking/smiling cacti, the ability to control titans (espers/summons/etc) and have them attack your enemies, etc...

But now they want to make a god/titan/esper/summon also change into a motorcycle? OH **** NO THATS JUST TOO MUCH. THERE'S NO WAY THAT MAKES SENSE IN THIS WORLD. THATS DOWNRIGHT HEAD SCRATCHIN I TELL YA.

HOW DARE THEY.

:lol Gotta admit I found that a little funny as well. But I think some people just have limits of what makes sense and doesn't make sense in a particular fantasy world. As Pureauthor mentioned, it's all about the context within that world. So again, I understand where the negative reaction comes from...even though it's all the same pile of smelly shit to me. :lol

All the other fantastical shit aside, there IS something wacked out about a Summon being turned into an inanimate object like a motorcycle. It also reeks of tring to be "cool" blargh. Theres a reason the real FF fans are reacting this way.

I'd say I'm definitely a "real" FF fan, but I'm always willing to give anything a shot. Yes, it sounds stupid, but I like the look of it. However, you're right, it reeks of trying to be "cool" and that's something I don't really like. It's why I hated Advent Children.

You're really, already, basing the quality of the entire game over this one thing?

no, i´m saying that the guy IS a copy of Sasuke... just like Zidane had DBZ characteristics.

Well, look on the bright side guys, at least this time we're getting a female protaganist instead of a half-man-half-girl abomination. That's PROGRESS worth celebrating, my fellow GAFers.

I know its a wacky idea, but I really like the look of FFXIII. If those shots are real-time, then holy tits thats when the PS3 will really take off.

Hopefully the characters are interesting this time around, but they look a bit generic so far. People like FF7 i feel because of the really whacked out cast. FF8 reigned it in a bit, but their personalities were made more 3 dimensional and interesting. FF9 was too whacked out for my tastes, and I think I hated everyone in FFX. FFXII's cast does nothing for me either, a bit too plain.

I'm certainly very interested in how this fluid combat battle system is going to work.

so, i guess Nintendo is getting the real FF´s now, huh?

FF13 is just a pretty mess.

I audibly groaned aloud reading that. Thanks for my 'GAF makes me die inside' moment of the day.

Nah, I meant the "FF vs. XIII is our only hope" comment, as if you already know XIII is going to suck. Not calling you out or anything, I don't enjoy getting into online battles over a videogame (seriously!) but I don't know, I'd just have to see a lot more crappy things than this before I issue out a verdict.

I really like the FFXIII girl, but it seems they've changed her face a bit. Her nose is longer and sharper :( Still looks beautiful, especially the cgi shot in Famitsu WOW. So pretty.

summons turning into bikes and tanks ain´t more real, y´know.

i´m sure all versions of XIII are going to get good reviews and high sales, but of course i´m against the idea.

btw, Fabula Nova Shiva > XIII Shiva to me.

I don't know. I mean, the look and style of FFXIII is awesome, no doubt. But a Summon turning into a Motorcycle? :( I'll have to see how its implimented but at this moment it just sounds goofy to me.

Yeah, I find this thread weird. The classic summons were turned into names of Airships in FFXII, and in their place were some of the most stupid, worthless, and forgettable esper/summons in the entire series. But hey, it was Matsuno so it was ok.

FFXIII + Nomura + Summons used differently again = OH TEH NOES! IT'S A BIKE! IT'S DOOMED!

Well played GAF, living up to expectations.

i havent played FF12 yet (*gasp* yeah) but do you actually cast a summon and it turns into an airship? really?

mmm....

also, at least -I- have always found Ivalice summons kinda meh.
