New Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae screenshots

Why are people claiming downgrade when this is just a demo...of a game that's not even close to being finished...? Did people really expect to play what they've seen in trailers already? What SE probably did is make sure they're allowing us to play the most stable build they have.

The final game may look close to that but even if it does it would still look great.

The thing is.... even in the very first reveal trailer, the draw distance was horrible, aliasing even more terrible, and there were objects popping up in the distance. We could also easily spot the same hair dithering on Cidney.

Even when we talk about screenshots, the TGS screens were blurry and didn't even seen to be 1080p. So what magical version of the game I am missing here which was better than this one?

The per object motion blur might be only seen in the battle footage. We have yet to see a battle in the final demo version of the game, as even the launch trailer lacked it.

The only point that I completely agree is that vegetation looks pared back from the original reveal.

The reason I said that the lighting is debateable is because you can't really get a good sense of those things due to multiple factors--angle/area/ToD/etc. I haven't realy paid attention to the motion blur in this game, so I can't say much there, and probably shouldn't have in the first place.

Mind you, I never said that there was a downgrade. Vegetation aside, it's kind of difficult to say. I simply stated that the game looks decent. The character models are superb, though.

I think it looks incredible. Massive step up from the XIII series on PS3 graphically and up their with some of the best looking games we've seen so far for PS4.

It's so surreal to think we'll all be getting to play this after all these years. Square doing something right finally.

It's painfully obvious when people make drive by posts, that they haven't even been pretending to follow the past year of this game's development. I guess that's what gets under our skins. If they were so "concerned" they would actually know the deal.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Yeah, check my posts in nearly every FFXV thread made so far. It's painfully obvious I'm just here to stir shit up and haven't been following this game at all.

The demo is rushed, having some graphical downgrade to allow the game run smoother is unfortunate, but inevitable. As long as the final game at least looked on par with the best we've seen, it would be fine.

Also minor tidbit from the article by Videogamer, there will be "plenty of secrets" in the demo.

Because of their prior statements regarding cutting things back to get the demo out. I'll try to find them. In any case, I struggle to believe there will be zero changes/additions/improvements between this demo build and a final product release potentially 12-18+ months out.

I'm sure it will look somewhat different over time.

I just feel that it doesn't look ridiculously out of place as is.

The final product will undoubtedly differ from the demo just due to the nature of development and the probability that it still has a year or more left to go. I think it looks good for the size of the game and while things may change between now and release, I don't expect the graphics to see a dramatic facelift before then.

I don't mind the thing with the soles, but the overall downgrade compared to what was shown before is pretty huge, especially the vegetation downgrade.

What "downgrade"? Are you crazy? At the most I see less shadows on the grass, but that would be pretty much it. Models still look great, draw distance is insane, lighting is superb... Where exactly is this "huge downgrade?

It's actually pretty incredible that they're putting this demo out now when the real game probably won't see release until fall of next year or something like that.

To reiterate, this game will obviously look better at release. Right bow it's running at version 1.5 of its engine and the final version will be 2.0.

They've already made strides. This is how the game looked last September.

So please for the sake of everyone's soles, stop with the downgrade talk when they've been only talking about upgrades for months now which have been clearly visible.

While I agree that there will probably be visual improvements from Episode Duscae to the actual retail release, I don't think the Luminous Engine version numbers can be used as the basis for any argument. They are arbitrary and without changelogs really tell us nothing other than that they are still developing the engine, not necessarily improving graphics.

At the earliest. On one hand it's awesome that we can finally check it out, but on the other hand... the wait is still going to be treacherous. Then again it's not going to be much different than Ground Zeroes--->Phantom Pain either in terms of dat gap (which is still sucking).

I think it looks fantastic personally. Didn't I read a while back that magic wasn't going to be in the demo or something because it wasn't fully implemented or something? Still kind of bummed about that if it remains true.

I love how confrontational some people are getting.

Yeah, I'm crazy for noticing that there's a lot less vegetation, which no longer casts a shadow, and more generally, that the look of the game has been impacted.

Why can't we discuss this without the dramatics?

edit: I also don't claim that this is a completely rock solid case, as DarkLordMalik posted some trailer .gifs that do look like these screenshots. At this point I'm wondering if the marketing materials we've seen in the past were from mixed builds, because there's quite some range in quality.

Just by eyeballing these new screenshots (I am not counting pixels here), I just find myself less impressed than I was when I saw prior media for this game.

SMH at people screaming for downgrade. I don't even......

Also equally bad are the people begging for a PC port. Frankly, it is getting tiresome to see this question repeating in almost every FF XV thread.

On the point of this thread, loving how great this game looks in these screens. They do need to work on the aliasing though, and the hair dithering is terrible on Cid, but the rest of the game is gorgeous. The Behemoth is one of the most bad-ass looking creating that I have seen in a FF game, so I can't wait to slay it :D

Well said.

they're not satisfied with the graphical looks of the magic i believe.

Realize that this game is still a year to a year 1/2 away from release. They have plenty of time to optimize better for the final version.

"Dramatics"? Funny you mention that, because claiming "huge downgrade" is being very dramatic.

Meh, I'll take a slight downgrade for the demo if it means better performance and the ability to actually play it before Summer.

I mean yeah, I'm a little disappointed, but considering how far out the game likely is at this point, they have more than enough time to polish and optimize the full game. The screenshots are a little unflattering compares to the HQ video posted in the thread, though for some reason. Don't know what's up with that.

Yeah, pretty ironic that he would say that...

Seven Force: It means that the game looks better in motion. Just as many games do. Screens for this game have always been a bit unflattering compared to how it looks in motion. Also, it is pretty clear the game has had a resolution boost since it was first shown again. So there have been upgrades.

It's not really about the game, people just enjoy yelling "downgrade!". It's something of a sport here.

Dude... I'm not even really talking about you. You made a fair comment (which I wish you didn't, honestly) just pointing out the changes in the demo. Your post wasn't concern trolling. But your post did open up for people like this:
Is it me or they keep showing the same stuff over and over again and it really isn't looking good?

What's going with Square? It's making me sad.
This seriously gotta be the worst looking 'next-gen' only game up to date. And it looks worse with every new screen or video shown.

Start doing bullshots Square , that way less people will be disappointed
These are the type of comments I was referring to. Comments that are bringing up "concern" over the fact that SE is clearly advertising for the demo and not the full game, and then people like the latter, who clearly just came into the thread to shit. It's tiresome regardless.

I insist that it's important to talk about these things in this industry of bullshots.

I'm not a fan of them either, but I don't think that every single case of a publisher releasing screenshots that are better than what we actually get is "bullshotting." In this case it may be, I have no idea, but by the nature of development things change frequently for better or for worse. When you want to show something to people, sometimes you have to show them things that may promise a bit better, but it still needs some marketing and people have been begging to see more of this game over the years.

I get where you're coming from and I would like to see more sensible screenshots being released, but at the same time it's still in development with likely a year or more to go, and they're releasing this in a playable state which could have led to some temporary compromises. We really don't know right now and won't know until the final game ships. But for now complaining about stuff like a decrease in vegetation and shadows just seems a little desperate.

You'd think 13 would have taught FF fans to be far less concerned with graphics and far more concerned with the game's quality.

Graphics are the most important elements of a game... until people start actually playing it. fwiw I thought FFXIII was very high quality in terms of visuals, gameplay and music but the straightforward environments hurt it a bit. Still a high quality game IMO.

Dudes, we've seen these at least since Demo One on PS1, yet here we still are 20 years later taking the demo footage as final. Chill out.

I have Type 0 HD preordered but I'm terrified that something is gonna happen where I don't have the money for it when it releases and I will be denied this forever.

The atmosphere better be good because some of the screens look like your generic open-world boredom.

And that female design SMH.

I really interested to see what the enemy encounters are like in this demo.

At one point in the trailer for it, Noctis and his party are shown sneaking underneath a Behemoth. I also recall a giant hand being shown reaching for the party. The demo will be a perfect chance to show how in-depth combat will be. Is there stealth? Do QTE's play a major role, especially with larger enemies?

People wanted open areas! SE is doing everything they can to distance this game from XIII's design choices.

Ah, okay. Sorry. Those people were probably going to make those posts anyway. But there are still too many posters overreacting to my "soles" post. I was just pointing something out that I noticed and was expecting like 1 or 2 replies tops. Like, it's nothing to me. I'm an artist. It's important for me to be observant when it comes to visuals, and those were the first two things jumped out at me as "off". You guys need to chillax.

Would love to know how this looks/see footage from the Xbox One version as alas that is all I have.

SE has only shown stuff from the dev environment and PS4 so far. Based on what we know about the engine though I'd imagine this to be 900p on Xbox. Again, Square has yet to show it for sure though.

Visuals are incredible for a game of this scope.

uhh ignoring character and enemie models and simply talking about vegetation and small details skyrim looked better.
You also have some really basic shit that square enix is apperantly not getting for example look at this picture
Final-Fantasy-XV_2014_09-25-14_002.jpg

why the fuck if you dont have enough draw distance wouldn you atleast make the ground the same colour as the "missing" grass its just crazy.
Oblivion figuered that one out years ago. Oh well FF15 is also years away so maybe the fix something soooo basic.

I just hope the battle system is fun, the dungeon exploration is good, the story makes sense/is easy to follow, and the last boss is one of those composite demons whose background is some crazy space environment.

EDIT: FFXV is coming to Xbox one as well? I thought it was PS4 exclusive, or is that only in Japan?
