So I've become addicted to this show, I need more, hook to my veins please. I hate myself because I hated the pilot and felt good about it, but I watched later episodes and they work for some reason. :(

I take pleasure in the fact that Zooey is not the draw. I mean, I like her, but I mostly feel this show is more than the sum of its parts. Kudos on them making the Schmidt character likable, seeing as they originally overdid his douchiness.

I love the cast of this show. I just wish they could find a way to give Winston a bigger a role in the group or flesh out his character more.

I agree. However, I was cracking up when Schmidt said this.

"I don't mean to bring it up now, but Nick could stand to lose five to seven pounds."

That and of course this one: "You know what I'm thinking right now? The perfect impression your ass will make in the sand."

been watching this recently. thought it looked ultra corny in the previews but aside from that awful intro and some cringeworthy moments here and there, the show is good.

however, i cant stand nick's actor or character. his voice is just so fucking grating, and its further amplified when hes drunk which he seems to always be. hes just irritating as fuck, unlike schmidt who at least does some funny shit once in a while

cece is hot as hell, but im sure everyone in this thread knew that already

Somber episode, yet not all that compelling. Maybe they thought this would have ruined the impact, but more jokes would have boosted the episode. As it was it was a little slow.

Did love Schmidt thinking about Cece's butt in the sand

Tuesday's episode was a series game changer. Best episode of the series, far and away. Probably the first time since the YOUTHS episode that I've felt that New Girl can compete with the big guns. It's too bad most on GAF won't watch cause of Zooey.

Count me in as a fan. I thought the show had a rough start and stopped watching after the first three, but I started up again after the Lizzy Caplan casting news. Jess & Julia is still my favorite episode, but last week's blew me away and cemented it as a top-teir series for me.

It's really nice to have a quality, single-cam sitcom not struggling with ratings.

Man, what a pleasant and extraordinary surprise Tuesday's ep was. I won't call it my favorite of the year so far, but it proved to me how invested I already am in these characters that they not only survived a tone shift, but managed to work wonders in a non 100%-comedy environment.

I mean, I always come to this show to (primarily) laugh my ass off for a half hour. What a strong and unexpected shift it delivered instead. I mean, there were still hilarious moments, but this episode fleshed things out in remarkable new ways.

Who directed/wrote this episode, it's "firing on all cylinders"...

"Music was america's greatest mistake"

oh god...spit take all over my school books.

Very, very good episode. The last bit, the shot of Schmidt's door, was especially fantastic.

This was a very funny episode. Just relentless and great. And so great to have Fat Schmidt again.

I wonder if they film all of those in one go, or if he has to get made up each time. Two hours getting made up for a ten second shot seems like it would be a huge pain in the ass.

Agree to disagree.

However, which episode is your current favorite? I am always curious as to everyone's tastes.

The last two have been average. Had a couple of moments but not a solid "I can't stop laughing" kind of string.

I remember the "youths" ep, which I think was when Schmidt hooked up with Cece for the 1st time, as being really good. I think the one or two before that were also really good. I definitely feel like more Schmidt and less Nick/Winston helps the episodes. I think the line that got me this week was when Jess was playing with the two types of vanilla and said "not in front of the cloves!" Very funny.

hmm, i don't know. i like a lot of them, actually. even the pilot which a lot of people didn't like all that much. i just thought the last two episodes were drastically different and worse than the other ones is all.

My favourite episode? Probably the party bus one. To be honest, this is the kind of show I enjoy more when I watch it in chunks- maybe I'll wait until the season is over before watching it again. (This should be easier now that Community is back.)

I quite enjoy this show, but after Tuesday nights episode it crossed my mind that this show somewhat has the same 4 characters as Entourage.

Schmidt = Drama: Over the top, does the cooking/cleaning, goes on about product (gel, shampoo, etc), describes working out with rudiculous details
Nick = E: Whiny little bitch with no backbone who falls for every girl who looks his way
Winston = Turtle: Broke, no job, minimal role but likable
Jess = Vinnie Chase: Happy go lucky, everything will work, always helps the other 3 while they collectively back him/her

Just a random thought -- but I still love the show and watch every week. Always been a big Zooey fan and Schmidts character is hilarious every episode.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates Nick. My girlfriend likes him and it irritates me to hell.

The problem with Nick is that he's not funny. He's on a comedy. I can't remember the last time he did something that I laughed at. Winston will get a chuckle out of me. Jess is amusing and at times does or says something that makes me laugh out loud. I'm usually rolling or have tears in my eyes at Schmidt.

But Nick? I don't get why he's on a comedy. Is he supposed to be playing the straight guy? Either that or he's just so dry that I'm not getting it.

Nick is a pathetic douche bag and a terrible 'straight man.'

The last time he was funny was the wedding episode when he hung out in the photo booth.

I don't even think Zooey is very funny but I'll keep watching for Schmidt and Cici.
