I see none. I've also hit the xbow a couple of times and it was fine. Just appearal damage.

That's disappointing. Maybe it's in the options menu when you hit start and determine the settings. There should be an options menu that allows you to turn off cosmetic damage, like in GT5.

Could you try checking there? There should be at least an option to turn off cosmetic damage. I wonder if the mechanical damage setting is there too.

What about cockpit view in standard cars? It's like gt5 or gtpsp?

Here's a screen

You probably won't be able to answer this for a little while, but tell us how credit earning is going. A person on GTplanet said that he felt that it's very easy to earn credits. Which is a good thing since people are worried about that aspect being gimped in order to force you into buying credits with real money.

Will do, still messing around with menus and time trail.

There's an option to choose how aggressive the AI is and an option to turn off visual damage only.

Wow, that sucks. This is my first huge disappointment with the game.

They actually REMOVED a feature from GT5, a huge one. Come on, polyphony, why don't you have mechanical damage in the game?

It better be patched in early on, or pitchforks will be involved!

Is machine testing in? How about 1 make races? (I would assume the place it would be is in the Garage ---> Free Run), since I didn't see any other options in the menu like practice or machine testing.

Checking gtplanet, it doesn't seem like machine testing is in. What is going on? Why are they removing stuff from GT5?

They better patch that stuff in. Both mechanical damage and machine testing.

Now that I'm a little less annoyed, I do realize that a huge day 1 patch with offline and online content updates is coming, so I know I'm going to get a hell of a lot more features soon.

Awesome Kaz profile by Eurogamer. But here's some things that may interest people

Yamauchi's rightly proud of Gran Turismo's epic collection of cars, but are there any he's still desperate to include? "Of course, there's the line-up of cars that start with a 'P'…"

The cars designed and assembled by Stuttgart marque Porsche have frustratingly been a no-go area for many racing games, thanks to a lengthy licensing deal the manufacturer has in place with EA. "We actually have a good relationship with Porsche - and as soon as the situation with their contract changes, one of these days they'll appear in Gran Turismo," says Yamauchi. With Gran Turismo 6 looking to introduce 12 months worth of additional cars, will it be happening within the lifespan of Polyphony's next game? "That, I'm not sure about. I think the Porsche and EA contract, the terms are a little bit longer."

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-11-29-kazunori-yamauchi-profile

I'm guessing that EA will continue renewing their contract with Porsche going forward like they did with Madden and FIFA. Just to give NFS something exclusive over other racers.

So, EA is too greedy to offer PD a "Porsche DLC" like FM4's situation? Or Sony/PD is just not moneyhatting enough :/

Didn't EA receive Ferrari's in exchange? Ferrari's in Shift were exclusive to the 360 version of the game, and from what I recall MS had exclusive rights to Ferrari on the 360.

Anyone know if there's a universal setting for TCS and the other driving aides this time around? The Academy demo still made you change them for every car, so I guess I don't have high hopes.

Reading Kaz interview and it looks like Porsches will be featured in some PS4 trailer, like Ferrari was for PS3.

I bet they are saving this one up for GT7. It´s always about the money, specially with NFS being more and more of an irrelevant racing title. Maybe they just finally decided to pony up and pay EA.

Interesting to know which cars and tracks they will sell us on this 12 month DLC.

Rolling starts in every race, no more mechanical damage. Is that right?

Must be great to be easily pleased like that.

Mechanical damage is not in the launch copy. Will it be patched? I would think so, it was in GT5, and most GT5 features have been retained/tweaked.

I understand the removal of grid starts because of framerate issues.

So what's the proper way to enjoy Gran Turismo?

I was all for GT5. Bought a G27 and everything. That game really let me down. I know after all of the patches and everything it was supposedly in better shape, but that launch period just really turned me off to the game.

So I'm willing to give GT6 another chance. Like I said I have my wheel. This thread is far too big for me to go and read everything, but have they improved the front end for GT6? I'm assuming there's still a ton of standard cars in the game?

Hey Smokey!

Depends on what you're looking for? The UI was revamped, standard quality has been increased somewhat, 350+ premiums, non-broken progression system, and future updates. Also, no crappy shadows and image ruining smoke effects. Also, new driving model and tire model.

Also, revamped online mode with racing championships, racing clubs, and matchmaking. I'd say you should wait until we find out what the day 1 patch adds.

I guess if you still have a PS3, then it would be worth it.

But after reading these first impressions and info leaks, it's looking really underwhelming to me.

All the actual gameplay impressions i've seen have been quite positive. It's just some people are complaining because it doesn't have this car or this feature.

plenty of things that are affecting gameplay, no mechanical damage, no standing starts, still ps1-era collision physics

Which doesn't change my point that people that have it seem to be enjoying it quite a bit. I didn't say that it was flawless.

I think the important is that most of the seriously irritating things from GT5 are as good as gone.

I would be absolutely shocked if mechanical damage wasn't included in an early update. It's gotta be there at least in online mode. Kaz said that the damage modeling would be similar to GT5, not less than it!

I don't really care about rolling vs standing starts that much.

I'll probably still check it out then. This G27 needs to be put to use in some way. How unforgiving is the game if you turn off all assists? I'm a lot more into cars now then when GT5 first game out. Been playing Forza 5 a bit on my X1 with majority of assists off. Good fun. In a bit of a car mood at the moment.

To be clear, I don't have the game, but these are its advertised features. The game just seems very much like an automotive sandbox, really.

Once that course maker comes out where you can lay out your track freely, I think things will definitely get interesting.

I do wish Polyphony would be clear on the release date of the GPS course maker. Hopefully it isn't too far out, because that is a HUGE feature.

Mechanical damage was only a point in online races. The damage was very rudimentary, but it did get the job done. I´ve never seen mechanical damage on the GT mode of GT5, so i assume it´s the same, it will be on online modes where you can select that option as permanent or temporary.

Permanent is actually very good. One hit and you´re out of contention. True mechanical damage like losing cylinders, blown engines or brakes, blown tires, busted clutches, that has never been done and nobody was expecting it from GT6.

Standing starts with the great option of a false start were also an online thing, specially after the pacthes. Should be the same here.

And Solid, the driving part was never a problem with GT. The deflated hype is due to GT5.5 or GT 5 Spec III impressions.

It was in arcade and practice too. It should at least be an option that one can enable just like deformation/visual damage.

no, your point was that people are mainly complaining about lack of a car of a feature when that was clearly not true and that there are others voicing how there are some omissions in gt6 that do in fact affect gameplay

don't be a sycophant

Going by the GT Academy build, i would say very forgiving. Their driving model is actually very good but it needs to focus on "arcadey" aspects that make people drive recklessly, like preparing for braking while still turning the car and suffering no consequences, losing the back, auto correcting it way too easy, downshifitting under braking is still unrealistic, and using and abusing curbs is still a problem.

I don´t know if i can explain this in a good way, but GT6 does a good job of having a realistic driving model, but it´s very forgiving when you´re pushing the limits of the car.

Also, brake and clutch modulation are (still) not coded on the game, so driving without ABS is still hit and miss (or driving miss daisy slow) and using the clutch pedal is just for fun, because it acts like an on/off switch, not like an actual clutch.

This has been confirmed by people who have the game early? Link?
