Sadly, they have charged me straight away.
I'm in the same boat. But I think the slightly larger screen on the regular model, as well as dem faceplates, is enough to convince me to "downgrade".
The slight increase in the screen size might just make it "perfect". We'll see when it finally arrives here.

I just got my black XL. Woah. No regrets. It is really nice! It feels really comfortable and the 3D effect is so seamless. There is no break in the 3d, not even a little or any shimmer effect if I move my head or the system side to side. It just works.

How doe's the new 3DS feel in your hands? Does it feel better than the original XL? That's what I have and it drives me nuts how it creaks when pressed and feels all around cheap.
The New XL is far, far better.
It's much better than my old XL. The old one creaks a lot but the New XL feels really solid and doesn't creak when I hold it or press on the back of it. The build quality is much better, so it definitely has a premium feel.
It seems comfy to hold and the d-pad has a slightly rounded edge feel and is ever so slightly easier to press than the old XL dpad. It's pretty similar but still improved on the new XL in my opinion. The circle pad on the new one has a lot less resistance so that's noticeable but I can't judge whether that's a good thing yet or not until I've played a bunch of games.

I was worried the two new shoulder buttons would be super uncomfortable, like the original Wii Classic Controller, but they're not! When holding the system your fingers automatically rest across them both and it's easy to press one or the other with a flex of the finger. It's really comfy.
System is pretty snappy. Loads on GAF on web browser while playing Smash pretty quickly.

New 3D effect is rock solid. Game changer for people who commute on train or bus, the shaking always made it too annoying to use.

How have UK people fared with customs charges when buying from Play Asia?
Absolute pot luck, as its fedex. Play Asia hasn't shipped any yet though.
Mine is from Mightyape via DHL. They dispatched it yesterday morning, and it reached the UK today - I will probably get the parcel delivered tomorrow. Incredible.
Mine was released from customs at the same time! I never would have guessed it would be in the UK after one day. I would really also like it to get to me tomorrow. Especially since I was expecting it to be sometime next week.

I'm actually contemplating going for a N3DS from an 3DSXL. Anyone else do that? How is the trade off in terms of screen real estate, PPI, etc. The faceplate stuff and form factor are major swaying points - and if the image is sharper than the "stretched" XL, then I might drop down.
Though, some design aspects don't sit well with me - power button placement, stylus placement, how empty the area where the Home button is, the questionably useless nub.

Yeah, I feel for you guys in America. Sure, we haven't got a release date either here in the UK/EU but at least we can import a console from Australia that will work with all of our games.

All 3DS games apart from those developed with the N3DS in mind will play exactly as they always have done. It's like expecting the N64 expansion pak to improve the framerate in Goldeneye. Sorry, but it ain't happening.
I paid with PayPal when I ordered from 365games and they took the money out instantly. Not sure if they have alternate payment methods and their policy on it.
They are from Australia/New Zealand but they are the same region. You won't lose any features.

Yeah, thats what I've been saying for a while. They need to import the stock wholesale to the UK first before dispatching to customers.
But hey, you guys paid less than I did overall and avoid customs charges so it works out fair enough.

Also anyone go for the charging dock? I'm tempted but is play Asia the only place to get one in the UK? Also kinda regretting getting the XL the faceplates on the standard are awesome.
