New Perfect Dark Zero screenshot

Does anyone know if the composer behind Perfect Dark 0 is still Grant Kirkhope? http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0456622/

I bumped this thread because I think it's not worth creating a new thread for this question.

Nope, actually David Clynick will be doing all the music in Perfect Dark Zero this time. Dave was responsible for the tracks "Alien Conflict", "Maian Tears" and all the cutscene music in the original Perfect Dark.

Awesome. Maian Tears is one of the best tracks in the game. I can't belive this game will actually be out soon.

The ground effect looks good, the rest of the game looks horrible.

Kameo team is definitely having much more success with the Xbox 360 than the PDZ team is.

How can they add actual texture to flat textures though? I mean the word "texture"...that's ironic.

Like, for example, you have people standing on these cobblestone roads that LOOK 3d but are actually just flat. And the characters animate and walk as if they were flat.
Bump mapping

Those are old pics.

If that is what the final game looks like, this is how I feel and MS is doing the punching.

Bah, the asian guy is going "Kirby" on the skinny white kid. In a matter of moments, the unsuspecting assailant will be in his gullet.

The floor in this shot is a good sign of things to come next gen imo. The rest looks pretty much straight out of this gen (not the high end either). Its not so much that it looks crap, it just looks really uninspired.

It baffles me that PDZ is set in this far future world of hover cars and jet packs other cool futuristic places, yet they choose to show off the game using a modern-day middle east setting we've seen 100 times before.

Too much specular on the paving stones, and the first person weapon texture is too low res. It's in your face, spend some more texture budget on it. The textures on the redsuit guys are too muddy.

I fully expect MS to delay PDZ for over 2 years seeing as Rare takes a shitload of time to create games and by looking at these screenshots game looks too early.

edit: I don't know if the game is launch title. I'm very far behind regarding news for the 360.

There's no way this game is making launch. I predict a delay because it really looks half-baked. The old Rare would delay a game that looked like this until it was ready. Kameo for example took years of development and now it finally looks really good. They could really kill this entire franchise if they release it looking like this. Forget next-gen, this doesn't even look current gen. Honestly this doesn't look as good as Halo 2 or Half-Life 2 for the Xbox. Maybe the game is fun, but the game looks like something 3DO would make with the Army Men license. Why do the enemy characters look so bland and generic looking? Why are their textures so blurry and lacking in detail? Joanna's character model looks good, but like a good current gen character model. If they force Rare to release this game at launch just because they feel they need to have a big FPS at launch they could really be screwing over a franchise and developer that has big potential.

I honestly doubt the game being "fun" will convince people to spend $300-$400 on new hardware though.

Luckaly Obvlivion is good enough to convince me to buy new Hardware, which allows me the freedom to rent this game :)

im thinking/hoping it looks the way it does so they can get the 32 people on xbox live thing working. hopefully new single player shots will look better.

I don't understand, we're talking graphics here, so I can only take your post to mean you think Conker had sub-standard graphics. Meaning, you are of course, wrong. Not in that like after school way where in the end you learned something about your self and you're right, your wrong in that sad way, where people feel bad for you.

Kameo doesn't impress me much either, nor do a myriad of other X360 games impress graphically. Rare is a talented developer and has always pushed the boundaries on the various machines they've worked with. I think the underwhelming graphics say less about the capabilities of Rare are more about the general mediocrity of the next generation Xbox hardware.

I concur with this...maybe the ATI GPU doesn't have the horsepower we think it does. At the same time, we really haven't even seen what the power of X360 can accomplish.

To put things in perspective, games like Fight Night and Def Jam look great. So did RE5. All those games will be on PS3 and XBox 360. So the power under the X360 hood must be comparable, if not a little weaker.

But at the same time, I still hold out hope RARE will show us something good, soon. PD0 needs to be *the* launch title.

Ugh, nasty thread.

Coming from a high-end PC gamer:

Pros:
- great looking parallax or normal-mapped textures on the walls and floor. Really looks great - 3D!
- awesome motion blur on dem wallguys. In screens, however, it makes them look like 2D sprites or cut-outs but in motion should be neat.

Cons:
- low geometry
- low not-normalmapped textures
- doesn't have that "next-gen" feel also known as "The PS3 feel"

And that's it.
I don't get it how can you ALL jump on RARE for this shots. Does it look better than most PC games (FPSes)? Haha, nope, but it has some nifty looking effects going on and Xbox1 just WOULDN'T cut it.

And don't compare this to GoW, GoW is a late 2006 title based on a PC engine.

thats all you need.

I agree with most of your points, but if a next gen console can't have a game that looks at least as good as 'most' PC FPSes, then something is wrong. I'm not asking for it to look better than HL2, or BF2. But this doesn't look any better than the 'average' PC game, which is bad.

Don't forget, this is FIRST PARTY stuff. This should be showing developers what can be acheived with focus, imagination and hard work.

Apart from a couple of games, I'm wondering if we'll see X360 actually flex its muscles properly before PS3 comes out.
