New previews of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

It's depressing how low this title continues to sink.

Also depressing that their self-described month to "win over gamers" is so blatantly transparent and yet people are still falling for it.

I hope y'all are as cheery when Metroid + Mighty Number 9: SR388 Showdown and Kirby + Minions: Dream Land League get announced because that's what you're enabling by giving this garbage the time of day.

This is amusing because you assume that throwing together some titles makes your point valid somehow. And like Nintendo hasn't already used Metroid and Kirby for spin-offs. Hundreds of spin-offs for Kirby. Or like these series had only top of the art masterpieces.

And it's even funnier as Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle has actually some very strong gameplay according to the previews which are the topic in the thread in which you are commenting.

Not that your comments give any impression that you have any idea about the topic anyhow, outside of some strange purity test that you are running.

Fuck the leakers, all this hard work to have some loser ruin your big surprise moment. Noone gains from a leak, if a game is happening it will be announced at some point.

I reckon we'd be seeing a lot more wildvines if it weren't for the leaks. A Mario/Rabbids game takes a lot of mental preparation.

I'm trying to have a media blackout for this since I'm already convinced I'll buy it, but from the little I've seen from this recent wave of videos I really hope that they will do another pass on the UI. Compared to the amazing animation of the 3D characters it looks a bit stiff and lifeless. It's a minor complaint but affects the total presentation.

A nonsensical crossover with one of the most prestigious and important gaming franchises of all time, and a creatively bankrupt franchise of proto-minions that'd been thankfully dead for years before now. They're sloppily cobbled together in a genre that makes 0 sense for either of the two properties involved. On top of that the company in charge clearly has little understanding of the valuable source material they've been handed the key to, made painfully obvious by those leaked slides from back before E3. Throw in some meme garbage, dabbing and selfies, and you've got this trashpile of a game.
/Scratch my head. But Rabbids were in exactly one genre and Mario has been in every genre but Dating Sims at this point.

So basically, Mario games can be:

1. Music
2. Educational
3. Platformer
4. Tennis
5. Golf
6. Baseball
7. Cards
8. Party
9. Soccer
10. Racing
11. Basketball
12. Dodgeball
13. Olympics
14. Role-playing
15. Arcade-style
16. Adventure
17. Horror
18. Action
19. Puzzle
20. Art game
21. Rail shooter
22. Mini-game compilation
23. Fighting
24. Pinball
25. Mahjong
26. Auto-runner

But real-time strategy? Oh, how silly of Nintendo to put arguably the most versatile character in video games into a new genre.

With all seriousness, it's evident you're just making something up to complain about this. If Super Mario Galaxy had Rabbids, you'd find a way to criticize the gravity mechanic just to complain about the game for its Rabbids.

I don't think any part of this is good.

Miyamoto himself was impressed so nah, you're in the wrong.

Oh FFS not you again:
Alright, admittedly hoping for the distress of the creators was a bit much, but the entire concept of this game just fills me with nothing but disgust.

The ham-fisted attempt to be hip and edgy and make Mario and co. "cool" with guns and things like "badass princess" and "#nofilter", the presence of Ubisoft's horrid proto-minions who are nothing more than walking lolrandomxD fart jokes that killed off the Rayman franchise, the "x-com style" genre that I have no interest in and that makes zero sense for either of the two properties combined, that four of the playable characters are rabbids in costumes taking the place of what could've been actual different Mario characters like DK or Rosalina or Wario, and the gall of their proposed timeline with "going big before launch" just make this one of the most unpleasant and horrible things I've seen come to fruition in the gaming industry in years.

I in no way am joking when I say I hope this gets cancelled. The sooner this game is dead the better.

I am pretty sure this game will turn out fine and it will better than any recent Mario Party games.

Can't wait to see this with Yoshi heh.

That devious smirk on Yoshi's face as he imagines blowing his enemies to chunks... truly the stuff of nightmares.

Ubisoft put up a couple of co-op-focused videos. One has Davide Soliani and Xavier Manzanares showing off a new map not in the other previews with what I think is also our first look at an escort mission, and the other is the Achievement Hunter crew playing.

Yeah there's hard for co-op. There's no hard for the single player campaign.

I was fairly sure they said you could revisit encounters in single-player for hard-mode challenges, though it wasn't clear to me if that actually meant a bump in difficulty or just an achievement threshold (e.g. turns taken) for the same content.

This has the potential to be the largest 180 on something I've ever done. I didn't want anything to do with the initial concepts, and now find myself really wanting to get a hands on with it. Not often that happens and fair play to the people involved for coming up with something that, by all accounts, seems really enjoyable.

Ubisoft have confirmed that the game is 720p/30fps when undocked, and 900p/30fps when docked.

Works for me. Wonder what sort of AA solution they are using and if it's adaptive resolution like we've seen a lot recently. Either way it's looked very good on the gameplay we've seen and I can't wait.

Awesome.

I already had it pre-ordered but that got hyped. It's gonna be so funny lol, that opera guy is great. Yoshi with a bazooka just gave me a huge grin. Ubi-soft, you dun gud.

I just noticed Mario has Super Mario 64 voice rips lol.

At 49 seconds that "yahoo" is straight from SM64. It's unmistakable.
Then the "Haha" as well.

weird lol. Placeholders?

Looking pretty good. I've been let down a bit so far with my Switch (ARMS and Splatoon 2) so I'm hoping this one will be more interesting.

Yeah they said there was hard challenges you could come back to later.

Less than 12 days from release, do we have any idea when the review embargo lifts for this? And no one is expecting a Nintendo Direct for it, right?

I don't expect a Nintendo Direct until September. Next week is Gamescom and the following week Mario + Rabbids releases.

Not one exclusively for it (those usually air a month before the title releases or so) but I bet we see a general Direct giving it good coverage.

Good point about Gamescom, I forgot that was next week. Several people seemed to be expecting a Direct for this, which is why I brought it up.

I don't see any Direct happening before it releases unless there's one the week it comes out.

And no big marketing

They managed to "convince gamers" without much big marketing.

For what it's worth, we still haven't received our review copy of the game yet. But that's not too unusual. There are two other games coming out on the same day that we haven't seen review copies for either. Expecting them any day now. Likely today or tomorrow.
