New RE4 PS2 screens

I bet that PS2 IGN will score this game higher than CUBE IGN did :lol
hehe probably, but i think matt will do the head 2 head so gamecube will win there by default and gamespot will never give it 9.6 so you win in the end santa ;)

graphically is so so compared to gamecube version.
I'm not sure how you're getting that. 90% of the visuals seem to have ported over perfectly. It seems that all we're really losing are the perpixel effects that couldn't be achieved on PS2 hardware (such as certain water surfaces). I don't believe texture resolution has suffered even (though the quality of SOME of those textures isn't quite as high).

On the flipside, it supports anamorphic widescreen and should have better image quality. The PS2 actually does a better job with 16-bit color output than the GC, for some reason. It shouldn't be nearly as grainy...

The more I look at the screens, the more I think the PS2 version simply runs at 24bit, like most other PS2 games.

That would be fantastic, if true. The image quality would receive a MASSIVE boost on PS2 and possibly convince me to give it a try.

That's either the best looking use of 16-bit color I've ever seen, or it really is running in 24-bit.

It's tough to say...

The GC is terrible at handling 16-bit color, though. Warrior Within GC was a complete mess as a result of it...and RE4's incredible visuals took quite a hit from it. The main problem is 16-bit color in 480p on Gamecube. On an analog set, it really isn't a large problem, but in 480p, the dithering becomes almost unbearable.

I cant believe some of you still give 2 shits about which version is better. Uh Uh, this model has 4 less polygons than this version!!!!!! STFU, and try to enjoy the game while yer comparing textures screen by screen.

1) I've already finished the game several times and loved it
2) I enjoy technical comparisons such as these as the conversion process is fascinating and with the PS2 hardware being so "unique", I always like to see how developers are able to work around its limitations and create some impressive results

What's the problem?

Demi i know you like this kinda stuff to heart. But most of these guys are just doing it for there own consle agenda.

I'm actually slightly worried that the GC version will look a bit shit on my new 32" HDTV (when I get it next week), it's nice to think that the PS2 version will have better image quality.

The superiority of the GC version is more obvious in gameplay shots. Cinematic close-ups seem near identical. I suppose the differences are even less noticeable in motion.

i gotta admit i'm pretty cut that I'm missing out on all those extras in the PS2 version. at least the GC graphics are better, that is a small comfort though.

I can't imagine RE4 playing with these bad joysticks too...but damn I want to play the new Ada missions...these will be only like 45 mins long though...

I just sold a bunch of stuff to have more money for the 360 launch, and RE4 on Cube was part of it - I think there's enough additional junk on the PS2 version to warrant another purchase of the game (read: I'm a whore) and I was paid $18 for RE4 alone, and the PS2 version being only $39.99, well, selling the Cube version pretty much granted me half the cost of the PS2 RE4. Still, I already miss playing it.

(But I kept my collector's tin and corresponding goodies) :D

There's one big Ada mission that couple of hours long, isn't there?

does this support progressive scan?
Yes.

wjong.

GI: How long do you think it will take to play through that mode?

Kawata: It’ll probably depend on the person, but when we tested it inside the company with different people it tended to take at least 5 hours to get through it.

Anyone know what it says under "4 Resident Evil?"

edit: nevermind, it's "Premium Edition."

It's official. Even Capcom says the PS2 is the superior version. ;)

P.S. I was originally going to make the same absurd post as Orin regarding the polygon counts. Haha, guess I'm not the only one who feels that way about these discussions. 10-points for you, Orin.

Some magazines said you'd need for the GC ada mission 3 hours or something like that, I only needed 1 hour, so...
