New tidbit of info about Death Stranding 2 from PlayStation Page - "exciting and adaptable combat", "open world full of secrets and incredibly varied"



Details on the forthcoming Death Stranding 2: On The Beach are scarce at the moment, but as new details slowly emerge it sounds a lot like Death Stranding - though there's plenty still to come.

Ahead of creator Hideo Kojima's SXSW livestream at which the release date is expected, Sony has updated the PlayStation website listing for the sequel with fresh details hinting towards how it will play.

"Expect the unexpected," it reads, which is just par for the course with Kojima games.

The website update essentially hints to what has already been inferred from these trailers.

"The large open-world environments of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach are full of secrets to be found," it reads, describing the "unique and explorable world". "They are also incredibly varied and pose unique challenges to navigate."

That tracks with the announcement trailer, in which we see Sam Bridges exploring a desert, a cityscape, and more beyond the first game's Icelandic-inspired highlands.

The game also promises "exciting and adaptable combat" where players can be aggressive, stealthy, or avoid combat, much like the first game.

It also confirms, as expected, the "social strand gameplay" will return, as "your actions can affect how other players interact with the game's world, and vice-versa".

More specifically: "Death Stranding 2: On the Beach supports asynchronous multiplayer in the same way as the original game. Actions of other players, such as the creation of roads or structures and the routes they have travelled, will become visible and usable to the player once they have successfully connected areas of the map." PS Plus is not required to access these elements.

I really love Kojima's work, but I really feel he needs to ground DS2 to reality, the first one was just too fantastic to make sense and so nothing hold much weight as compared to metal gear when things are more realistic but with a touch of fantasy

I just hope Kojima goes back to making engaging gameplay. Death Stranding 1 was incredibly cool, and one of the most boring games ever, gameplay-wise. At least for about 80% of it.

Combat in the first one was dogshit and there was very little to explore\find in the open world so i need some receipts before believing the usual pr talks.
While I agree combat was not very good, Kojima developed DS in about 3 years with a brand new studio, which is incredibly impressive. There are Robotic enemies they've shown in trailers. So hopefully that can add variety. As should 6 years between games

I'm not gonna keep my hopes up but at least the last trailer showed some combat between cringe rocker and the android that looked pretty cool, maybe we get some combat armour like the power\jump legs in the first one.

Robotic enemies means we can have decent shootouts without having to worry about disposing of bodies, or causing craters the size of a city.

Why I am more excited about this game than anything Playstation has to offer? I liked the first game.

we couldn't avoid much of the encounters (against the "ghosts") though in the first game. They were fun at the beginning but a chore in the end. It's the main reason I stopped playing it after the end.

The combat was an after thought because the gameplay loop was designed around item management and route planning. Taking the most optimal route each trip to collect and deliver packages. The game literally encourages you to avoid confrontation with Mules and BTs to prioritise cargo.
Which is what world building theme of part 1 is all about.

I'm really interested in which way they go on the soundtrack. Low Roar blew me away on the first title with their tracks, but with the death of Ryan Karazija that's no longer an option. The music was such a huge part of the games vibe, I hope they can recapture something equally great.

I wouldn’t normally listen to something like Low Roar, but their music suited DS perfectly.

I know it won’t happen, but I could really see some Thom Yorke stuff suiting the mood of the world too.

Yep. Loved the first but the world was incredibly barren. Even rewards for deliveries were shit. Combat was serviceable but there wasn't enough of it. DS2 shouldn't turn into an rpg, it needs to keep the same emergent gameplay in place but if they can nail some of these aspects it's going to be incredible.

Didn't liked the game and combat was terribad so thank god there wasn't much of it :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

This is what made it interesting. Perhaps the only game ever to make you stop and consider killing someone.

I did it once to the terrorists rounding them all up in a truck to take them to the incinerator was certainly an experience.

To be fair you could combat the mules and knock them out to raid there stash and kill the BTs.
 
Death Stranding is a super interesting game.

I think to have fun you have to engage with the side activities to see it's full potential. This includes doing side quests, building infrastructure, the road and eventually a zip line net work.

Creating efficient routes across the open world is really satisfying. Almost like figuring out the most efficient routes across the mansion in RE1 on grand scale that's requires a lot more interation from the player.

If you beeline the story you will engage with none of this and likely find it really boring as you will be slow walking everywhere across the map.

I remember being amused at players raging for being forced to go back across the entire map on a late game mission. These players obviously hadn't built anything it would have taken ages lol. Well if you had built stuff folks that mission would have been an easy 5 minutes!

I loved DS but I don't think it needs a sequel. You surely can do more with the formula and tell another story within that world and with those characters but I don't think anybody is left with the desire of experiencing that after rolling credits on the first one.

Same with Okami.

Some games can benefit from being a one and done thing. Not everything has to be a franchise. That being said we'll see how this turns out. If it's interesting I'll get it on PC.

I hate the first game .. is awful imho... couldn't play more than a few hours.

BUT ... only Kojima genius to transform a Fedex walking simulator into a game product that can attract fans and accolades. God I just want one more semi-grounded centered not open world espionage game from him .. just one.

I wish he toned down the social strand gameplay just a tad bit.
Game becomes slightly too cluttered and easy with people already built important structures at key places.

I don't think game wasn't cooked was the reason people didn't liked combat. It was just never the focus of the game (or even the franchise I would say). I have insanely high hopes for DS2 though.

I liked the first, but it really had the worst combat and shooting mechanics I've come across in a looooong time. Hoppe he's improved the stealth a bit too.

It was a terrible game, absolutely not deserving of any accolades, but I’m glad he made the game he wanted to make and glad it exists.
