New Trailer for FFXVI is up

Nomura should only be involved with Kingdom Hearts honestly. Would benefit KH fans and FF fans alike.
Nah I still like his art and his games, but I just wish modern Final Fantasy wasn't so dominated by his work.
His art and directorial style are very distinctive, but having him as a lead on so many entries started to make the series feel homogeneous and uninspired.

A nice rotation of talent every entry would be ideal imo.

He should rotate in the toilet.

Kinda boring trailer.
Game seems very medievalish to me. I wouldn't say this if FF game without the title
Really ? The crystals ? Ifrit ? Titan ? Garuda ? the music ? It's very iconic and instantly recognizable for anyone who played FF games. Lack of chocobos though.

So chocobos, coeurls, marlboros, Titan, Shiva, Odin, Bahamut, Ifrit, Phoenix, Garuda, the music, talk about crystals being very important, and the general aesthetics across several trailers weren't enough for you to know this is a Final Fantasy game without the title?

Yeah, this game is screams classic Final Fantasy.

I recognize these characters as I did paly ff7 remake and XV... but I am talking more about the theme/style

The theme and style are very much in the wheel house of Final Fantasy though. That's why people were a bit confused by your post.

I'm assuming you haven't played any of the ones I've previously named?

I never did. I am aware of games after 7. Nothing before and nothing mmo.
But I absolutely the two i played

Theme and its style is pretty much classic Final Fantasy before FFVII.

It's a mix. To me it's medieval but that's really about it. I suppose VI has some similarities.

To me it looks like it's aiming for something similar to FFXII, or Vagrant Story with that mix of political intrigue and maturity that isn't really a hallmark of the series prior to XII.

Oh wow, they both have an uncommon and never seen anywhere else Schloss Neuschwanstein.

It's not enough to have the usual summons and crystals to be totally in line with the past. This one is very different from every past iteration, it's less anime (for better or for worse), more realistic and looks more like a mix and match of various things, DMC, The Witcher and of course FF.

Hugo is Letho btw.

Depends on your tolerance for older titles, but I'd recommend giving them a try and especially FFIX.

Hard disagree.
European fantasy inspired settings
Fortresses & castles
Warring kingdoms and factions
Political drama
Sustenance and protection from crystal magic
Enchanted knights & creatures
Chocoho mounts
Classic summons

What are you hard disagreeing about? All of these elements present in FFXVI have been present in some form or another in past FF entires. Especially the Nintendo era.

Its not bad per se, but I'm sadly just not interested so far. I hear people claim FFXIV's story is great as well but I was bored the entire time(gameplay no, story yes). The gameplay is the biggest turn-off for me though, its so superhero-esc, why even have the roadies/groupies anymore? Those boss fight's look like a fighting game, not at all what I want in "classic" FF. Yeah I know what they said regarding younger gamers and casuals not buying or liking turn-based combat, but if they're going to do something as a homage to the past, go all the way don't pussyfoot around. Its like it can dress the part and style itself like the OG, but unless you can walk the walk it'll just never be, at least to those of us who grew up on it and long for a proper modern iteration.

Not saying older gamers or people who explored the past can't enjoy the new stuff. But for me this trailer just makes me want to pass or wait for a sale. I'll probably still pick it up, if it even hits that summer 2023 date. The story seems very predictable so far, go there beat the boss and collect the summon, move on. I know that its often the journey that matters but what's been shown isn't very impressive. Sorry to be a debbie-downer. I sincerely hope its good, but I feel that other rpgs, even SE titles are of higher quality even with smaller budgets. They don't skimp on their vision for some sales goals, which usually leave SE displeased anyway.

It just looks quite bland with no soul like that other Square game where you also jump around. Is it a Ubisoft formula type of thing? The main characters also looks more like an NPC.

After XII, XIII, XV and 7R I've made peace with the idea that this series is not for me anymore. It's sad but no longer painful.

I hope zoomers like it.

Hope we get JP voice acting, because I'm not sold on the English one.

Rather than that game looks.

I'm gonna buy it regardless because I love FF even if the last mainline games have been nowhere near up to par.
but I'm not really feeling it and I don't get the praise it's getting.
I'm more excited for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and I shouldn't be because this is the new entry and should be the one I'm excited for.

I'm not so enthusiastic.

For one, I'm in the camp that feels "classic" Final Fantasy means having some strategic turn-based elements more than it means anything else.

But besides that pipe dream, I don't like the Game of Thrones vibe here. It feels (at least in this one trailer) too much like a battle of kingdoms and thrones, rather than something that grows out of a small set of characters who only stumble into the larger story, which is more how I prefer these games. Also I miss the magical feeling. Some may say this is like FFIX in its medievalism but that game was fantastically colorful, playful, and magical right from the start.

i'll say one thing: squeenix most obviously hasn't lost the ability to produce spectacle...

it's the ability to produce everything else other than that that i'm not always so sure about. since ffxii, & despite the fact that they've all continued to feature spectacle, i've haven't enjoyed any ff other than ffxiv. so, i'm still taking a wait & see attitude here...

I agree. This might be the first Final Fantasy game I don't play. As you say, it has a very "GOT" feel to it, as opposed to a magical feeling about a group of outcasts who come together through coincidence and circumstance to overcome a common enemy. Matching that, the characters here looked a lot on the brutish side. The combat doesn't particularly excite me either.

Good for people who want this sort of thing, but I have no interest in this.

I find it too flashy.

Not saying it isn't good, it's just... a bit too much.
That was actually my initial take from the earlier trailers.
I was thinking theres too much shit going on at once.
Surprisingly the HUD and all made it easier for me to actually see and understand whats going on.
Maybe its just the editing of the earlier trailers that made it look super chaotic, this trailer I actually could tell what the main character was doing, it wasnt just particle effects everywhere.

I watched the JP trailer.
Looks like the game is synced to English voices so English was the base language and JP is the dub.
It irks me so much cuz it seems like they didnt even try framing the dialogue within the animations, if they did I would probably play in Japanese, but at this rate English it is.

See for yourself:

It's weird reading the this isn't like previous FF statements on this board. Kind of shows the age difference in gamers, some people think final fantasy didn't start until number 7. This has a lot in common with all of the earlier FF games (6,4,9, XI and XIV) from the looks of it really has a lot in common with tactics as far as tone is concerned. Graphically it looks very good and all of the music released so far has been top tier. What's missing from the older games? Not crystals, not summons, not chocobos, not party members (read the interviews), there also is supposed to be a slower (turn based system) according to a very old interview. The only issue I have with this game is waiting for it to release.

Responding to above comment about exclusivity: 1 year or more PS5 exclusive then more than likely a PC release. No current plans for Xbox systems.

People arguing about what does and doesn't look FF when one of the points of the franchise is that it changes a lot.

These 2 are mainline entries and came out a year apart

There's going to be a lot of whining about it being so action based and with no permanent party.
But this looks really promising IMO.

So hyped. Gonna be the best FF in a long time

Medieval setting
Mature story that evokes the Matsuno games
DMC quality combat

My only question mark is whether they can deliver on the exploration loop. It's something FF games haven't been as good at in recent times. If this game can be open enough to not feel like you're running down a hallway and actually deliver meaningful content and towns then I'm all in
