New Twilight Princess Screens

cleave3gw.jpg

The more I examine the less I like.
The fog needs to go.
The colors need to be more vibrant.
They need more polys or some kind of mapping to make up for the lack of polys.
The environments need to be more lush. I'm not looking forward to that snow being as hard as the ground beneath it. Remember the snow in Billy Hatcher? That was great.

what's with link (and that one dog) been the only characters casting shadows?

if these pics were released by some other company every character would have a shadow and the lighting would look much better, maybe the colors would too

and the framerate would be around 15 fps.... just like every other EA title: "oh cool.. that looks sweet... awesome..." <chunk> <chunk> <chunk>

its funny to listen to you all bitch about this.. and bitch about that... when you all know you want to play this game.

I'm really glad that they went for the mature look and I loved what I seen from the trailer, but why do the graphics in these screens look so blurry?

Eh, nm. I just looked at the shrunken down shots and they look a bit better.

GC screencaps always look like crap sadly. :*(

I don't care if they delay for qulaity, that should NEVER be an issue.

I can see what they are trying to do but im not sure the GC got what it takes to create the world their trying to show.

Um what?

edit: Oh you mean the Gamecube versions.

the more blocky this game looks, the more hopeful i get that the environment will be vast, which is my greatest desire for a zelda game.

This is what Peer from IGN had to say about the fog...

Peer-IGN said:
Uh... I don't see fog being used to bring down the poly count. It's clearly an atmospheric overlay as you can still see the trees, fence, houses, etc. Putting a layer of fog that veils but doesn't complete obscure background details is actually more taxing on the hardware than not doing it. Also, it looks very much like a morning/misty scene to me.

NEVER FORGET.

Most beautiful game on GCN bar none. Love the art direction, the little details, the fluid animation, the whole cel-shaded idea.

Never forget!

WW worked to the Gamcube's strengths... this game clearly does not.

and what confuses me is what are we getting for this trade off for poor textures ? character models are weak and the draw distant is poor. :\

I agree with Olimario, TWW looks mucho better than TP. The extremely cohesive and well defined artstyle does wonders...it will also help TWW age much better than its sequel. I loved TWW...a shame that Nintendo got convinced by the nboyz to go back to 1998.

No n-bot can convince Nintendo to do a certain style for one of their most important franchises. Aounuma, Miyamoto and the gang made the call. Period.

I always felt that WW looked very nice but empty. Too empty to be beautiful as a whole, imo.

Replace water with open field and you have the same emptiness in TP and OOT.
The difference, however, is that TWW has about a million things to interact with when you reach a place of interest.

Eh...not really. WW was absolutely fuckin gorgeous at times, but most of the islands were empty rocks. Sure you could cut some grass and throw stones, but every Zelda game has had that.

So, while I think some of you are insane for thinking these screens don't look good, haven't you seen the movies? The game's gorgeous! And I'm talking graphically here of course, art is too subjective (and can be seen just as wel in screens anyway).

You're very confusing people.

Bitwise, where is the bad art animated gif? :lol

there is so much material in these new screens! but here's the old one

and i also agree with olimario, TWW is ****miles**** better artistically.

Those twon images are exactly what i wanted the game to look like. Its absolutely amazing. Looking at these pictures just makes the news about the delay even worse, i want this game now:(

:lol

I approve of vile controversy amidst an upcoming Zelda game release. It confirms that the game is, in fact, still a Zelda game.

I wonder why Nintendo doesn't shelve this for the gamecube and have it ready as the launch title for revolution.

Tell me that wouldn't be a kick ass launch, they'd have more time and extra proceesing muscle to make the game really shine and it would help them get revolution going. If it is already delayed into 2006 it is not that big difference as revolution will probably launch very late 2006 or early 2007.

Zelda and Metroid 3 at launch.

Sigh...I'm tired of responding seriously. So...

TIME TO FLICK REVOLUTION SWITCH!! NOW IT LOOK GOOD AND MAKE IT LAUNCH NO PROBLEM!!!!11

Wow, this is the first tiime I haven't liked the graphics in a Zelda game. They should have kept the Wind Waker engine and made a new adventure with it.

*grins* You gotta point there.

And ironically, I feel a bit of internal controversy myself over TP vs TWW in the area of graphics. I do think TWW has one of the best fusions of art design and graphic capabilities in this generation. To me, it's a Yoshi's Island of 3D games... ten years from now, it'll still look entirely lovely and lose little of its power.

The problem with TP is that the style it wants to use shows many more visible limitations of this generation of hardware. Even the Xbox would show strain (think Fable). Coupled with that, I don't believe that the art style is truly bland... it's just an art style that loses power when stretched across washed-out colors, low res textures, and the dithering-like effect of too much fog.

I see your frustation, but when the damage control has started it's pretty much impossible to stop with it with rational thinking.

TP has no charm. That town looks about as dull as they come. The NPCS arent interesting. The art isnt eye catching and unique.

Bring back TWW or do something interesting with TP.

I appreciate the charm of TWW as much as any Zelda fan, but now you're just reaching...

Bullshit, I'm reaching. Each NPC had a very unique look and personality. Not only that, but they all had a back story and they all evolved as characters as the game went along. If one had a problem, there was a resolution for them at the end. If one needed to be taught a lesson then a lesson was taught.

With OOT and now with TP, all of the characters seem so generic visually and don't seem very different from one another. Wind Waker had VERY interesting npcs.

I agree, that it'll be extremely hard to top how well executed WW's art-direction was ... but hell "give the people the damn traditional fantasy crap they want"

But after playing TP at E3, it just looks so much better in motion ..... Those shots don't even look remotely like the same game.
The NPC's were extremely well defined up close, and riding that horse was so damn buttery-smooth at a locked-in 60fps .... And the cave-dungen was candy but in shots it looks like ass.

I don't think anyone will be dissapointed once it has released.

I think you're very confused with Majora's Mask.

I see this point at least...but only partly.

You don't see anything interesting in the twilight areas of the game? Midna, those twilight enemies, the way they appear? How about the forest dungeon, some of those background designs are gorgeous, exactly how I'd want a forest dungeon. The glimpses of Zelda we've seen? That coral/water screen from today? The light blazing through the trees onto that...mud/ground creature thing? The lightning flashing across green skys? The boss you joust against? The sewer and the dead knights that flash up?

I love all of those, but don't any of these things appeal to you? I can understand people who don't like an endless field of green and a plain coloured town or think the NPC design is crap and a lot of the enemies too. But TP still has a lot of great things going for it, artwise.

A real mixed bag to my mind.

People were bitching TWW graphics "meh, it's too colorfull (childish) we want maturelda"

Now they get EXACTLY what they ask for and they "meh, this game is having no charm, bad art, blablabla.

You all just shut up already.

GUYTH THERIOUTHLY THTOP HATING ON ZELDA!!!

...I am seeing some DC-level texture and geometry-work there. I can't help but think that Wind Waker was more impressive on a technical level?
Wind Waker was a beautiful game that complimented the hardware very well. I think I was a bit spoiled by its art and wonderfully implemented cel-shading. There's no doubt in my mind that Twilight Princess will be a brilliant game and a blast to play, but I just wish they could've done something with those visuals. It hurts to cast my gaze upon them.

Really? I don't remember any of the NPCs in Wind Waker, but I remember a great many from OoT. Wind Waker was a beautiful game, but it had many gameplay faults that kept it below OoT including the extremely low difficulty, low number of dungeons and towns, and repetitive nature of many of the islands.

imo the characters in tWW where funny when you saw them for the first time. Otherwise I'd say that Wind Wakers characters where some of the weakest since Zelda reached 3D...
The most memorable npcs where in Majoras Mask in, my opinion. You could feel that everybody had his own history, which wasn't the case in tWW.
I think (and hope) that TP is a return to form.

Can we at least reserve judgement until the game is actually finished? There are still months to go. Also, until we see it in motion we don't know how unique the townsfolk are. There might be quirky animations that make them stand out more.

All we know at this point are that the pre-alpha textures are slightly muted and the pre-alpha models have some fucked up faces.

In some aspects the game demonstrates that the Flipper is at the same level of a DirectX 7 GPU when you see the images.

Thanks Nintendo for making happyto all the traitors to the Zelda saga that only knew Ocarina of time and cried because Wind Waker hasn´t had the Ocarina of Time style, thanks Nintendo.

The only pic I have a problem with and that's because the enemies right arm seems like it's been stolen from Paper Zelda....... o.O

Yah I'm liking the look of things overall though. :)
