That's all that WW missed - A sense of urgency and importance to your mission. I think they do need some kind of catastrophic battle in the next game. I also want to see a section where a tiny village has been ransacked by enemy troops and villagers kidnapped on horseback, and you must chase after and rescue each one withthe power of sword and grappling hook!

What makes you think it'll be the prequel to TWW? That could be pretty sweet if they played out the story from the intro to TWW only in an alternate timeline where the hero returns to save Hyrule.

I wonder if they could pull off some kind of a huge all out battle between the minions of Ganon and Link on a horse with help from some of the citizens of hyrule.

I think it might be a prequel to TWW just because the horse looks like it's Epona. The main character appears to be the Hero of Time, all grown up (on his own). Looks like there's a war going on/about to occur, which would explain the sudden chain mail. No master sword as well, but there is the Hylian Shield. Then there was the whole bit of "or will darkness reign?" or something like that. Just leads me to believe we might see how the events leading up to The Wind Waker actually happened.

A prequel to Ocarina of Time could have so many more possibilities and be so much cooler though...

This scenario is awesome! It wouldn't be that hard to implement if you have the hookshot auto-aim for you. All you'd need to do is time the shooting of it.

I always felt that Wind Waker is the sequel to the Zelda OOT universe where Link stopped Ganon and went back in time (and dissapeared, like the beginning of WW says). Maybe this Zelda is what happened to Link in the 'light universe', where he did come back.

That's another possibility. Someone else expanded on that idea, and how it could relate to the two worlds of ALttP, but I can't remember exactly how it went. It was well thought out too. :|

Is the storyline/timeline in the Zelda series even supposed to make sense according to Nintendo? Or are people just trying anyway?

zelda pictures looks better in famitsu.

whenever i feel like an idiot for paying attention to the story details of mgs or halo, i remind myself that there are people who try to reconcile the paltry and mutually contradictory events of the various zelda games into a consistent timeline. it makes me feel better about myself and worse about humanity. which is a trade i'll take every time.

Ever since Aonuma joined in in 1998, they've been trying to connect the series... desperately.

Here's the timeline that I and some others follow:

OoT ---> MM ---> TWW ---> ALttP ---> Zelda 2

I count ALttP as a sort of retelling of LoZ. If not, people often switch Zelda 2 and ALttP as the final games in the series. I think Zelda 2 is the final one
because Link FINALLY gets the girl. It's the happy ending to the series, with all loose ends tied up regarding Ganon.

Link's Awakening fits in there, somewhere. Probably somewhere around ALttP.

OoS and OoA are probably not included, but lean towards being in the OoT days (after MM).

Four Swords is a series of its own. Four Swords ---> Four Swords Adventures ---> The Minish Cap.

There are a couple things that could connect to Zelda 2 through the OoT universe if a prequel is made to OoT. Would pretty much provide a solid backbone for the story of the series. I'd like to see this most.

Well I like to use my imagination and try to fit the pieces together, and predict what will happen next. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, no matter what the game (unless it's one like Tetris or Super Mario Bros).

What I would love to see in the next Zelda is a fresh story, A similar story has been used in a few to many Zelda games.

If they're actually going to make it a darker game, I'd like to see some changes in the gameplay as well. I remember them saying the combat is a little more influenced from AoL.

Including the removal of the bad reversal system that WW had, made the game too easy.

I really hope this isn’t just OOT, MM,WW with better graphics.

Me neither. Though, it could be "more of the same" while just improving on everything in general though. GTA VC felt more like a clone of GTA III to me, but San Andreas improved greatly upon the last two with better characters, a more engaging story (not that it was ever the most important part of the game), more vehicles to steal, just one huge noticeable load time, and many different locales.

if it's more of the same and improved like GTA:SA I take it!

Epona's back so im sold on this no matter what they do, having said that, i also hope it pushes the series a bit further.

Dare i say voice acting for all non-link characters?

I think VA for non link characters would mean delay + 6 months.

I just started playing KOTOR and the voice acting is gold! Granted Zelda is less text based and story intensive but in comparison to some of today’s AAA titles I would say it needs voice acting.

Anyway they may have already decided to implement it, any news saying there is no voice acting?

I think there's an Aonuma interview somewhere around where he speculates at the possibility for voice acting -- joking that he himself would voice Link.

Voice acting would be tough and even at best it probably wouldnt add much at all. Even the best games dont sound quite so natural or it gets annoying. Zelda is a game where you skip the text as soon as you read it. I dont think its important.

true. The combat does look interesting. On horse battles for example.

Voice Acting may be something that if added would cause the same controversy as the cel-shading issue.

I personally don't think it will be added.

No controversy in having quality voice acting.

Good point, how about we stop evolving all 'old' game franchises? Do not want to piss of people, just keep repackaging the same old game.

Maybe because voice acting in RPG's and Adventure games suck hard so far? Even KOTOR wouldnt be close to pass for an average movie.

Go play baldur’s gate 1 & 2

KOTOR has great voice acting; the game would struggle if it was purely text based!

I could see the controversy if you voiced link, then you'd be defining his character, something the other recent zeldas have avoided, it lets the player think Link is who they want him to be. But the other characters are meant to be defined. In this generation theres no "makes the game better" excuse for not voicing everyone but Link.

I also doubt it will be added, but i think it would be a good way to move the games storytelling forward.

Yeah really, thats why i found myself reading faster than waiting for them to finish. Many of the npc's were painful and the voice acting added alot of time. Thankfully you could just read and skip.

I can see advantges for adding voice to the story purposes but as a whole game, no.

Look at HL2. The game has great VA yet Gordon never talks. Sure it is a FPS, however good VA talent is not limited to a certain genre.

I wouldn't go that far, but I also can't say I'd wanna hear the new Zelda voiced over either.

Action games are better however as you can clearly hear them and instructions are ussualy straight forward and clear. With RPG's and Adventure games you need the text.

Metroid Prime would be better off with voice acting(so little anyway but i am sure the Luminoth could have gained) but Zelda not so.

What does that have to do with anything?

Voice acting in a Zelda game would sound rather silly. Plus it brings back bad memories.

"WHAT did you say?"

"I said i'm in love with you Link!"

"I'm the MAN!"

Havent played them. Dont want to.

OMFG!!

How can you say all RPG’s and adventure games have bad voice acting when you have not played the pinnacle of RPG gaming?

Sorry but I am struggling to understand how someone that visits GAF could not be interest in the greatest game ever made?

Please tell me why they don’t interest you?

I'm not 'hardcore' when it comes to RPG's ;) Its not close to my most played genres.

Miyamoto said ALTTP comes after Zelda 2. In Japan, there is no confusion. Legend of Zelda, Adventure of Link, and Triforce of the Gods (ALTTP in US) are known as the Triforce Trilogy and are in that order both in terms of release date and story timeline. Triforce of the Gods name was changed because at the time NOA was in its censorship mode and didn't want the word "God" in their titles. I think this timeline makes more sense because
Ganon still looms large at the end of Zelda 2 whereas there is actually closure in ALTTP (Ganon is dead, Dark World goes back to being the Golden Land, peace returns to Hyrule, etc.)

I forgive you for not playing the BG saga only because I like you’re avatar.

But trust me the 600+ baldur’s gate hour saga has the finest voice acting I have ever heard!

The zelda timeline makes sense i guess. Why is Link called Link anyway? In the game you name the character but the name Link is always used.

Ok i may give it a go. I havent tried any online RPG either. I was thinking of WOW.

I don’t have a clue about Online RPG’s; I have a P3 laptop so I don’t play many PC games. But my old P2 Chugged out BG and BG2.

The only warning I would give you about Playing BG1 is it only supports 640 X 400 resolution. You may to skip it and start with BG2 or use a mod to played BG1 with the BG2 engine (it does destroy the games balance).
