I am a simple worker. I know only what I have access to. Do you think I'm going to know what's going on at Microsoft? Or at Sony? They are opinions. But... you mean this?

If this was what you were referring to, I don't consider this type of collaboration to be the same as Sony's.

For the same reason I can't imagine Sony releasing a competitive OS today. Logically they are generalist examples. Each one is good at what she has experience with. Sony is used to making Hardware (with its achievements and failures). And Microsoft to make Software (with its achievements and failures).

Definitely believe that Playground games will do a great job in demonstrating the SSDs capabilities. I still hold on to my belief that State of Decay isn't a good demonstration of what it's capable of.

That's because people didn't listen properly to the context. They said "we just run it, didn't make any optimizations", which is the most important part. I agree that it was a dumb way to show it off, they should've just shown an optimized version, but this is probably only in new games which they don't want to show yet. They might show more of this in the future.

Even with optimization I don't think it will match Sonys I/O solution but it's still a huge upgrade compared to the X1s I/O.

Using 'it's an old unoptimized game' excuse is ridiculous, they had the chance to brag about their storage solution capabilities and blew it. The very least they could do was what Sony did to that Spiderman demo, and that's an old game.

That kind of is true. But I suggest we wait and see how the I/O works with next gen games before coming to that conclusion.

Doesn't mean that I fully disagree with you though. I definitely agree that they had more than enough time to show an optimized demo off. The console is already being tested in homes and we already seen the breakdown of the hardware. I'm pretty sure they could have made an optimized demo with the hardware ready.

I'm comparison that Spiderman demo was done with incomplete hardware so the final results should be even better IMO.

It is what it is, are you expecting every devloper to go back and optimise their games for the ssd. 5 to 7 seconds is great for xbox one games.

It will definitely not match Sony's I/O, the numbers made that clear. We still have to see if it was worth the investment to have such a fast SSD, the games will tell.

Why is it ridiculous? The contrast was huge between the current SSD and old HDD, so I get why they wanted to show it like that and emphasise that it was unoptimised. The Sony demo was optimised btw, that wasn't just Spiderman with nothing changed but run on a PS5 devkit.

Functionality extends to the creation of 'primitive shaders' which sounds very similar to the mesh shaders found in Nvidia Turing and upcoming RDNA 2 GPUs.

"A new block called the Geometry Engine" when they are specifically talking about the GPU new features, doesn't sound like something software or API related, but support baked on the hardware (like RT and VRS added support in hardware with RDNA2).

If that same spider man demo was the one wired got to see remember that was a low speed devkit aswell.

That's not my point, what I'm saying is that if you're going to show the speed of velocity engine, you go for your best case scenario, an unoptimized demo is far from that.

And you think because it's running on a devkit it will be better than the final console? Where was that State of Decay running then? Anyways, like it was said before, that Spiderman demo was running on old hardware, optimized or not it could be running even faster on current devkit.

RDNA3 is not supposed to be properly released until 2022, and neither Sony nor AMD has said anything about the GPU having special features that will be available on all GPU's in the future and part of RDNA3. So why would this suddenly be the case? Is it out of the possibility? No. Is it extremely unlikely? Yes. Which is why Alex said it was madness, and just a bit ridiculous for people to think that the GPU would have features not available for 2 years, while it is confirmed that it's an RDNA2 GPU, a technology that AMD won't release until the end of this year.

Nobody outside AMD knows any details on their roadmap, but there is a precedent (PS4 Pro) of later adopting certain features that were first implemented on console chips to desktop cards. The rumour that RedGamingTech mentioned was something along those lines.

Entertaining the remote possibility of some console APU features making it to a future generation of desktop cards is nowhere near comparable to MisterXMedia GPU in the power brick garbage. Especially when unlike hidden GPUs in the power brick, that actually has already happened before.
