I just dont get Alex to him testing a last gen 5 year old game in BC mode is more intersting than talking about the tear down of a new console that is just weird.

I understand they have already committed to releasing these videos, but his response is just baffling comes across a bit snobbish. Like this video was 100% fluff, anyway i am sorry for the rant.

He really said that? WTF.

“Rather uninteresting”

Could their bias for MS and anything Xbox be anymore obvious? They can discuss the PS5 using Liquid Metal, the first for a console and mass market device, and the implications that has, for like half the video.

Never understood this...serious question. How does connecting headphones 🎧 via 3.5mm cable to to Dualshock fix this? The DS4 uses Bluetooth and has to send a signal to the controller and then through the cable...why not just do straight bluetooth?

Yeah got my kid an expensive ass sony headset, I figured he could use them Bluetooth or wired to the switch or dual shock... Turns out the mic only works in Bluetooth connection, I am a bit pissed and not buying a fourth Sony headset.. Sony makes some dumb ass products sometimes.

You are baffled that DF would praise BC and spend that much time on that old of a game and downplay the PS5 video?

Seriously?

I mean I love what these machines are doing with some older titles but that statement by Dicktator doesnt shock me at all.

What do you think has happened to the relationship between Sony and DF, Heisenberg? Clearly there has been big changes with how Sony operate with the game press while at the same time Microsoft have increased their access/disclosure beyond even what they did with DF for Scorpio. It still shouldn't lead to bias but clearly whatever has happened, DF aren't too happy about it.

I'll just stop here and say that any game new or old that is being released on the X1 family (HDD) is not using most of the benefits of the SSD provided by the Xbox series consoles. The same holds true for PC. Until games eliminate the HDD as an option, the SSDs won't be fully utilized in the consoles or PC. Even a change to an SATA SSD minimum spec would be huge for game engines,

So the same applies to Kena, a crossgen game (ps4 HDD) that boots on PS5 in under 2 seconds...

If they are not interested in Sony then Sony shouldn't be interested in them. They better stop complaining when Sony doesn't give them anything.

How fast does it boot on PS4? There can certainly be improvements, but I would expect to see peak utilization from next-gen only offerings. There are games that load in 10 seconds even on a slow HDD, it's all about what you are doing at the time of load.

Alex "DF":
"SSD only for loading"
"Clock fake"

I think he wasn't calling you a loser, but Timdog AFAIK. relax. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:
Thanks, that was definitely a kid in his mothers basement. If your that elite you better be making money off of it! Reminds me of a child throwing down his fries and folding his arms while pouting. Aww "him want him fries". Anyway, pretty soon I want to get a camera and will ask your advice in DM. Because of this little guy here.

Oh and so I don't derail I will ask you a speculation question. Why do you truly think that Sony is being so secretive? Do you think they have something they are holding tight to chest?

Yes because a no nonsense straight to the point video with no fluff showing how well engineered and planned out the PS5 was designed is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO uninteresting and it has more views on Youtube

In another words, MS didnt remove the bottlenecks (File I/O, Mapping, Coherency etc). At PS5 it makes no difference, its always practical 2GB in 0.27 sec.
Really. Is it so hard to imagine, that not everything that is done during load times is loading data from a storage and unpack it?
Not every developer will or can build a game that loads instantly. There are also tasks that require the cpu to do stuff (like AI precalculations, world building, managing characters, creating dynamic stuff, connecting to a server, ...) before you can play. Managing the data from the storage was only the biggest bottleneck so far. Everything else must still be done. This applies to the new Xbox, PlayStation or pc.

Digital Foundry had a Unreal Engine 5 video up within minutes of it releasing on YouTube and they can't cover a PS5 teardown because it's not that interesting despite it garnering 7 million views ??!!

A big WTF from me.

It's things like this that make me question DF. You already have Xbox's side bitch Tom Warren, a journalist for the Verge riding the Xbox penis at every opportunity via Twitter. The dude can't hide his bias in damn near every tweet he posts. A verge journalist showing clear bias.
So how is one suppose to trust the journalistic integrity of an institution like Digital Foundry with Alex the Xbox queen on the team.

The only one who has shown any sense of impartially has been John Linneman.

Probably it's tied to RDNA2 and ZEN3 NDA's. After RDNA2 reveal we should know or should not if there is nothing.

I would say a lot of ppl are looking for comparisons on DF so having any kind of relations would help Sony in early comparisons. On the other hand Sony is the market leader and does not need it as much as MS needs it...

Probably alot longer is my prediction. I mean the PS4 has a slow HDD.

Just like the video posted earlier, some games do have more of a storage bottleneck than others (where the SSDs really distance themselves from the HDD) while others are more CPU/GPU bound and the SSDs don't have as much of an impact. If a particular game is extremely bottlenecked by storage (all the CPU/GPU work is done and we are hanging just on IO wait), than those should really fly on the PS5. On the flip side if the game has 30 seconds worth of processing work to get through on high-end PC, don't expect the next-gen systems to improve on that much. And then there will be other situations where the CPU work is decompression on the PC side and the new systems do have the hardware decompression blocks, so we'll see how that all plays out.

this is on Sony. They should've kept DF in the loop like they did when they talked to him about the road to ps5 talk before the talk went live. Df has earned it.

That said, i think Richard might have burned some bridges when he refused th take cernys word about the variable clocks and went to devs for clarifications. Cerny seemed annoyed and i think they decided then and there not to engage DF like that again.

When cerny seemed annoyed?

They really come across sour that they haven't had access to the console yet.

There's plenty to discuss about the teardown. We finally know why the thing is so huge. The huge heatsink the large fan, dust collectors. They can discuss the merits of that vs. other solutions and how it compares to the console they do have their hands on.

They can talk about liquid metal and it's advantages and disadvantages.

They can talk about how we now know how we will add additional storage.

The idea that it self explanatory is a nonsense.

Purely on content, what is wrong with what he said? Tear down is indeed self-explanatory and like he said, they have the XSX... If Sony gave them a PS5 with BC games, they would do exactly the same. But Sony didn't so that's their own fault. I get that when you are a PS fan, you want more info, but look at Sony for that.

Props for that guy for trying to be fair. He's been both praising and criticising both companies.

I get what he is saying but i am sure there will be specific branding on the packaging to help out in the majority of these cases.

This SSD WORKs WITH PS5. Big blue box around it. etc etc.

The teardown could have been done in a Digital Foundry Direct.
They analyze trailers, but can't check the teardown?

To be honest, I think he has a point.

The tear down was self explanatory - what can DF say about it? They aren’t sufficiently informed to really say any more than can be gleaned from the video and commentary.

He also makes the remark that the tear down was dropped by Sony without warning and they don’t have a PS5 unit themselves.

To me those comments seem like a sulk that they weren’t given privileged information or access.

So with that frame of mind, I think it’s better DF continue their marketing work with MS until the PS5 is released and they can do their job effectively.

I watched a really cool video where they talked about how Cernys decision to go with variable clocks made them come up with that cooling solution. It was super interesting because the video talked about the dual sided airflow, how liquid metal transfers heat and the importance of the heat sink spanning the entire board.

I don't understand why Digital Foundry wouldn't find something like that interesting when if they were not the ones to take it apart.

Nah, i think DF burned their bridges with Sony when they revealed Scorpio after they got to reveal PS4 Pro. Hence why Sony went with wired for the PS5.

Honestly, guys. The best way to show DF your displeasure is to just ignore them. Stop posting their videos, because you just give them more views. They currently have no incentive to change. I'm certain that many people who complain here still click play on their videos. Hate boner clicks will only result in more hate boners in the future. Just my thoughts.

I can almost guarantee that if so, it may be why. Remember Cerny has helped AMD pave the way for more Asynchronous Compute and threading - so maybe AMD did actually use Sony's innovative ideas for there road map that are exclusive to PS5? It would make the most since.
