And create little PS5's? 😊

We should create a support group amongst ourselves - the ones who didn't get to pre-order, got pre-orders cancelled, or (in my case) people who think they can walk into a store day 1 and get the thing home like nothing else matters.

I will watch streams on Twitch with the new console... and salivate. And cry. And I will also remove the people who got a PS5 symbol next to their name in my PSN friends list.
Is this you?

One important distinction though. Quick resume always works wherever you want, the PS5 version needs to be implemented by developers, and is where they want. Right? Or did I not understand the cards stuff correctly? I haven't checked the video myself (was planning on doing that somewhere today), but quickly read some highlights so I may have misunderstood the functionality.

Don't confuse saving game states with loading the levels you want to play directly from the dashboard. Time to watch the video.

Ps5 ui look sleek, but all of these gimmicks are just gimmicks, but I am on old schools guy, i don’t think I ever took a screenshot of any game on my Xbox or playstation, I am also guy who likes to figure out things myself (no guides, no videos etc.). Also a big point that I have noticed in the ui video; Can anyone explain to me how is destruction all stars taking 6-7 seconds to load? This game doesn’t look big.
Controller is a gimmick, ui is a gimmick, it seems anything Xbox doesn't do is a gimmick. Are Sony games going to be the next gimmick?

Why are Xbox fans obsessed with job hires?
"The Initiative" is like the rich football team which can buy the best athletes and hopes to win the next title.
They have sucked in so much talent in the past, that their 1st game simply has to be incredible. Otherwise it shows that money can't buy great game creation or Microsoft has a management problem.

"Most games I tested worked flawlessly with Quick Resume, but some aren’t supported. Titles like Sea of Thieves, that feature a big multiplayer arena, don’t work with the new feature."
Thanks, good to know, and makes sense of course in case of multiplayer games.

How is this handled on the PS4pro? Mechanical HDD and 4K UI.
I assume it takes from the OS reserve for maintaining a significantly smaller 1080 buffer with far less aggressive caching of images, hence why it might feel a bit sluggish at times. PS5, as they say in the video, is caching aggressively externally loaded resources, presumably on disk and load when needed. I'm obviously speculating here, but I would find it strange if Sony didn't exploit the speed of the SSD to free up more memory space for games by unloading the main UI when it's not visible.
It's such an obvious optimization to free up more available memory for games.

If someone leaves say Naughty dog to a competitor, how do you know that person was the best or worst rated in that area of expertise at Naughty dog ?

Sometimes you can poach the best people, sometimes the people who are not the best and not advancing in their position leave (unhappy).

Quite amusing takes on the job market.

Is PS5 going to have more japanese games this gen or is the censorship approach putting Jap developers off? With games like Uppers completely skipping PS5 I wonder what my next purchase should be to ensure I can play Jap games

Thing is sports teams aren’t in the hundreds of people and when a club buys a player the fans know or can easily know what they are buying.

Here it’s just... a shot in the dark 99.9% of the time. All I see are hopes that somebody you don’t know might suddenly turn a MS studio into that Sony studio you secretly worship.

I don’t think I ever used touchpad on my DualShock 4, nor other extra functions, I might be old school, but lots of these Adonis are gimmicks to me, the ui isn’t a gimmick, I said that these functions that some people say are “game changers” seem like a gimmick, you need to accept that people can have their own opinions. Just to be clear, I never shared anything from my gameplay on any console so share and create buttons on both next gen systems are just a gimmick to me. And sorry, but I don’t get excited thinking about blowing into dual sense to pass some level in astrobot, this type of functionality is also a gimmick to me.

Not all of them are 99.9% a shot in the dark. The leadership team also comes from Sony studio leadership teams. But I agree it's ridiculous that for each animator you have to be happy he comes from ND or something.

Nintendo. MS has no games, PS5 has censorship according to you, the answer is Nintendo. That or PC.
If Sony has Nintendo, I'm not sure what you'd call Nintendo, lol. I did find that question amusing. MS has no presence in Asia, Nintendo skews towards kids, and was famous for censoring MK2. It's Sony or PC, I guess.

All Premier League teams in England have hundreds of employees. Man Utd has 600, I believe. Even the smallest teams have 150-200 or so. PL itself has 300 employees.

All I’ve seen so far are people that were effectively promoted once they got hired by The Initiative.

Xbox fans have turned this shit into a sport.

Sure but nobody cares who Man Utd hires aside from football players.

This is a gamer (Xbox gamer) phenomenon. There’s nothing like it.

I know that some might see this post as concern trolling but that is not my intent.

I start to worry that some design decision by MS will haunt them.

The large amount of CUs per array increases the risk of cache bottle-necking - something that is a problem already today for any GPU under load, the RAM pool with two different bandwidths make it harder to optimise I/O and the decision to unify the development environment across PC, XSS and XSX makes it harder to code close to the metal. These three decisions all results in a reduction of efficiency with regard to utilisation of silicon.

At the same time PS5 moved in completely the opposite direction - every decision has been made with efficiency in mind.

I start to think that this is at the heart of the reason why we have not seen any real next-gen game running on XSX - they are struggling to get all those TFLOPs to the screen. I hope they get their arms around it.

Well it depends if it's a total prohibition on suspending online games or whether there is some developer choice involved - I imagine devs get to decide.

The thing is some games - Sea of Thieves is a good example - are wide area open world multiplayer games - there's no sense to save the state because if the player jumps back in the world around them will have to be reloaded.

Compare that to something like Demon's Souls - there's "always on" multiplayer" in terms of the messages and possible player invasions, but those things shouldn't really impact suspend states operations with the exception of changing games during an active invasion.

Same for something like Godfall - it wants always online but suspending should still be OK. It's only suspending during active multiplayer that shouldn't work.

We’ve seen 2 results thus far. One has screen treating like it’s 2005 and the other needs to run at 1080p to achieve 60fps. And that’s with gfx also from 2005. Yes, alarming.

In summary, the ultimate test will be what the ps5 delivers with these 2.

God of War III Remastered just got a new patch today too! Chances are, these two game updates are for backwards compatibility for the PS5 and nothing more. We’ve reached out to Sony just for further clarification. If we get a response, we’ll update the post.
Uncapped framerate on the resolution mode, to be ready for PS5? 👀 (I'm not confirming this is what the update was about, it's just my thoughts)

There is a perfect shot of her firm buttocks but avoided including it. If you guys push me enough

One time I failed a CPR course because I was giving butt compressions instead of chest compressions. They also told me that blowing into the dummy's anus wouldn't work.

I guess I might be given a second chance to do CPR the right way with Lupita. I mean it worked for Quagmire.

🤷‍♂️

But why?...at the very least include it...for science...err, reasons :messenger_smirking:
Bo wtf? Post that shit and stop being a charlatan. Or else I'll make sure your PS5 only uses thermal paste.(n)
You have the console?

!بو حازم

No I don't have the console, lol. It's from the trailer of the UI.

Ok guys, you pushed me too much until I fell from my bed and woke up. This is a graphic shot, so open with your own responsibility.

8 secs on the xsex was for "quick resume". The 8 secs in this UI demo was to launch the game cold.

I haven't decided what that means yet....

I mean quick resume is saving the state of the current game and then loading the state of another.

In this demo, the PS5 is dumping one game from memory and loading another from scratch.

So it seems like you could say PS5 is doing less work than quick resume. On the other hand, all those quick resume demos on xsex were with BC games, so they may not be major memory hogs compared to quick resume between next gen native games...

So what does that all mean? I dunno! lol

We should have a thread to speculate in about such stuff :messenger_halo: :messenger_halo: :messenger_halo:
And keep in mind that’s a MULTIPLAYER GAME. That includes match-making and server-side stuff. I’m sure it’ll be even less with a single player game.

Just to touch on this, the only other game I've seen with a longer than expected loading from boot is godfall which funnily enough is an online game.

Look, watch godfall at the start of this video, about 13 seconds in, looks like a cold start.

You can see it take a while even after the initial logo screens so online there takes time.

I think its upto the devs and each will be different, but online will take longer given it relies on outside factors.

However as said those logos in godfall for eg are there by choice. On sackboy the slow Sony logo is still chosen.

I'm sure other games will choose to do things differently if they choose to.

We have already seen the PS5 load things under 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 depending on type of load screen or animation.

Cerny even said some devs may slow it down.

We saw that sackbay load take about 3 seconds including smooth animation and they even tried to put up an hint which was almost unreadable.

Spiderman MM loading screen or lack thereof.

k8m5xv.gif

I'm not sure what SlimySnake SlimySnake is on about. This is loading almost certainly for me. Maybe someone on twitter tweet insomniac?

If it wasn't why would the screen go completely dark for a small time. It was it in ram it would surely be light outside all through.

I'd guess how they are doing it is by having the exit point facing largely the sky/water there's less to load on that shot, so that's loaded in in that time and by the time the player turns the rest of the city will be there.

This is what I mentioned about being clever with the loading, to make it instant.

Another way would be to go through a portal and travel, appear somewhere else but land facing the ground, by the time the player looks up the level is there.

So back to these game boots, I think we will definitely see much quicker maybe some devs won't want to sacrifice the logos, but some will and they should. The system speed has proven itself, its upto each dev to decide what they want to show at boot.

The problem with the high CU count is, that you might be forced to a lower clock speed and that some of the CUs are starving, forced to idle because the data do not come fast enough. But it gives a good dev more headroom.
Having a large amount of memory to be accessed 25% faster by the GPU then on PS5 is a huge plus in my book. The 10GB is "large enough" not to be a problem. Yes, it makes developing a bit harder, but compared to other problems in the past of console developing it is nothing.
I do not know the SDK for XBox therefore I do not know the implications in the long run. It should make certain parts easier and faster, such leaving more time for optimizing. From what we heard the new SDK made problems in the short run...

In the case of that video I would also assume it's a pre-release demo build so there might be other reasons it's loading slower beyond network access - debug code in both the console and the game code for example.

I'm not certain of the mechanics or even if there are multiple ways to leave the location, but I assume from the lock on triangle that the moment the user confirms they're going that way, the loading can begin. It's about 2 seconds from the lock on to exiting the tunnel - that was what we saw in R&C so loading of the external content is feasible I'd say.

Having said that, it could also be the area immediately outside the exit is resident in RAM and its the rest of the city out of the player view that is loaded. That would make the available loading time more like 3 or 4 seconds between the moment the player selects the exit and the time they regain control to maneuver...

Agree on both accounts.

The challenge with this point is the unification of the development environment across PC, XSS and XSX - that will make it harder to play that to your advantage (for games that use less than 10GB of (V)RAM).

I do not know the SDK for XBox therefore I do not know the implications in the long run. It should make certain parts easier and faster, such leaving more time for optimizing. From what we heard the new SDK made problems in the short run...

Agree - in theory you should be ok with one development path for the game for all three. The issue is efficiency i.e. to get all the hardware on screen. I have heard exactly what you have heard that the SDK is currently problematic - not sure what the exact problem is however but am willing to bet it has to do with efficiency across so many hardware configurations.

8 seconds it is not around the speed of Series X also? But well, never complained about it anyway, 8 seconds to switch to another game without turning off the other one is crazy fast. I like the rest of the UI and it's pretty much everything I was hoping for, how the shareplay works now it's amazing.

8 seconds is still fast enough, those people who thought everything would have no loading were living in dream world.
