Is there a chance that at superbowl will be some kind of advertisement of PS5 with PSM date etc.? Or it was just a joke.
I don't like american football so i do not know if there is a point to watch it.
I wouldn't count on that, Superbowl ads are pretty expensive and Sony seems to be cheaping out on events. They even piggybacked that logo on their annual general purpose CES presentation. Besides, reveals are for enthusiasts, the public watching football probably is most casual to games.

Here's the thing, there's no reason to believe, nor is their any rumor of Sony showing the PS5 tonight. However, it's not ruled out and it really would be a great idea. 120 million eyes watching, $5 million for a 30 second ad.

But why spend millions on a commercial when a Wired Article has a bigger reach world wide?

Both would be top trending Social Media within minutes one costs way less.

There won't be anything ps5 related tonight, and although ms are showing something, I believe it was already confirmed it's going to be something surface related. Maybe Xbox included if there's a montage at the end.

Sony haven't even properly revealed the damn thing, this is not the time for costly ads. Show it first to enthusiasts, who would buy it no matter what, then you can do the marketing for casuals.

I'm the one from the Twitter thread!

Don't badmouth my dreams.

What would make gamers happier in the end?

Spend millions on live presentations because we gamers want more info.

Or save that money put it back in R&D and say give us better battery life on the DS5?

The idea that Sony can't afford a live event and a larger battery is laughable but, I get it. The budget isn't Infinite.

Why not skip all marketing and put everything on R&D....
Seriously.... This argument dont hold up... Strange even

B.), but if they were to do a bad job of A.) then the hype for the machine and potential success of it in the market may actually make some of the features improved of A.) ultimately seen as over engineering instead of worth R&D investment. Not that dissimilar from the reason movies with super high production values also spend quite a bit of money in marketing and shaping the message and visibility.

Performance/Quality + Visibility + Perception... = success

B.) is mostly just the first item of the equation to success IMHO ;).

I don't think can't is the appropriate word imo.

Just for me, I love their approach I don't want to sit through 2-3 hours of a cringe field live show to generate my hype.

A State of Play would be more than sufficient to do that for me.

I don't know about 'cheaping out,' but it's probably more to their advantage to market their TV's or something, if they did a Super Bowl ad. MAYBE a console HOOKED to a TV, but I doubt it.

No need to be live, no need for people to be at the same place. Just record it where they are, put everything together, edit and publish at their channel.

Bingo. There's no way a reveal NOW will have all the info in it anyway, just as MS's announcement didn't give all the details. This would pretty much just be a "see....it exists and is coming!" type of thing with some pretty pictures and/or trailers. Can do that just as effectively in my mind via digital medium these days. The BIG reveal with all the details will be closer to the release....and crucially...the holidays. THAT is when they need to maximize all the PR and advertising.

They don't have the same audience, and reaches different people in a different way.

Live presentation because Sony would just put that money in something like Knack 3 and not actually R&D for DS5.

I don't know, I like a bit of whooping and a'hola'ing. Even though it's all paid for, it adds to the E3 pressers.

But they don't need a a big event, a simple video will do. Journalist's can have their fun closer to launch.

I mean what did the live event at The Game Awards even show?

A render of the box and a 24 fps cinematic of a game.

Honestly even if we get a live show at the end of this month for the PS5 I do not expect we will hear any real power numbers.

MS and Sony neither want to talk TFs this gen.

Anyhow back to enjoying this pretty weather.

Lurk mode engaged.

Well, Xbox has an ad and/or possible segment in the Superbowl today, and there weren't any rumors for that until maybe a day to two before they dropped the trailer itself.

I would think if Sony had an ad prepared they would've done at least a teaser trailer for their Youtube channel. That would be dirt cheap to produce, especially if it's just a general "PS5 at the Superbowl" advert. Which leads me to think they don't have anything planned.

Given how they've been acting lately, can't say I'm surprised.

I mean, that's obviously what they'll do, same with MS. But if I'm being honest here, MS's messaging at present just feels a lot better out of the two. There's a level of transparency that I appreciate. Just little things like small trailer reveals, showing off the design of the system (a pretty boring design imo but at least they've shown it), some general specifications, having a segment (or at least presence) at the Super Bowl, still having something for E3 etc.

And doing all of that doesn't mean they aren't going to have a blitz or their own event, either, just like Sony is planning. So overall that's one thing I will definitely give MS props on, and I hope Sony can take some lessons from that going forward. Because if their next event is equivalent to another logo reveal, at that point you'd HAVE to say they're trolling and low-key insulting by then. I wouldn't appreciate that at all.

There is far too much of an obsession with theatricality.
Creating a big song and dance around a console won't change what it is. It can't make up for what games they do or do not have on offer.
In fact, creating a big song and dance when you don't have much to show is worse than doing nothing.

When both Sony and Microsoft have something substantial to show all alongside their specifications (which most of the fanatic enthusiasts here, don't even fully understand), then they will show it.

If there are more leaks, take them with a grain of salt. But for mercy's sake, just relax. It's just a pair of boxes that play games.

PS4 was unveiled on 2/20/2013. I was expecting the same thing, but who cares - we learn about it when we learn about it.

Somethings got to happen today right?

The thing is, we are still waiting for the announcement of the reveal, not the reveal itself... sorry

I'm with you Eise! Ffs _ two E3 skipped and one presentation! That's enough savings for that second GPU _ don't you think Sony!?!?!? 😠

How much do we think the Series X is gonna cost? I heard 600, but really don't believe they will shoot themselves in the foot that way (again). Im hoping only 500. I put that away from my tax return so I hope it will be enough.

Trying to wrap my head around when doing a next-gen system-related (or just gaming-related) advert or vignette at the Superbowl was a bad thing 🤷‍♂️ . I mean, Sony's done advertising with FIFA events and F1 in the past, were those seen as bad? I didn't think they were, I'm sure lots of other people enjoyed having their presence there, too.

More opportunity for exposure and getting your message out there is a good thing in my book. I'm pretty sure Sony, MS and Nintendo will have some kind of advertising deals going on with the Olympics this summer, too. Will people think those are a waste of time or resources?

In my opinion I think it's more a question of timing. The marketing budget is spread out throughout the year, so is content. Since buying a PS5 in a store is out of a question, they surely will spend on current first party line up until closer to launch. And they don't really need to spend to create awareness. And they won't show all their cards now and don't have enough to show later in the year.

I would love to see more now, but both Sony and MS will probably wait a few months before doing anything substantial.

In this day and age do we honestly need an event to unveil PS5? No. But still I can't imagine them skipping it. New console gens don't come every year.

Without some fanfare there's less content click bait YTers have to work with.

Ok for those who didn't read it, i posted today that OsirisBlack OsirisBlack fortnight tease was on the 20th of January, that means we're less than 24 hours of something to happen? 14 days is February the 3rd isn't, what do you guys think?
when you thought you were out i pull your hasses back again

I hope so but don't expect anything now. All insiders have now gone into hibernation it seems so we just have to wait now.

If the enthusiasts will buy it no matter what, then why would they prioritize showing it to them over undecided customers?

I also don't think it'll show up at the super bowl.

That's what everyone thought after he posted it but it's clear the Feb event all insiders were teasing at was just a guess.

Because they are the ones craving for info and main loyal customers. You don't start a gen pleasing casuals, you do that to enthusiasts who will pay premium.

I have huuuge backlog and cant even play until April due to work . Then I have re, doom, tlou2...

Let them take their time. Enjoy the great games coming and that we have.

The release of the consoles is not going to change. Both will be in store by Nov/Dec 2020.

I think they can do both. For example, a super bowl tease would tell casuals that PS5 is coming with superficial info and of course enthusiasts would get excited, then a full PS Meeting would please enthusiasts.

I think everyone assumes MS is waiting until e3 since they already showed the box and some game footage.
Yes, MS is doing their schedule by the book, It's Sony who have been totally unpredictable. And like I said before, they have no reason at all to rush, PS4 has an amazing year right ahead.

Except the money would just go to executive bonuses since they cut costs and raised profits. The rest goes to shareholders who I could careless about. So gamers get zilch out of it.
