If I knew that number could be defining the power of PS5 I would not have said it publicly.
By the way, does anyone know what is the equivalence in RDNA of a useful effective power of 13.8 Tf GCN? 11.1 say someone? Sure? Or 11.5? (it's only a question)

Wow, that's the most stupid thing I have read this year. A flop is a flop. Exactly one floating point operation per second. That's what it means, you know. Just because operations can be more efficient doesn't make x of one architecture behave like x+4 on another. If you were to theoretically use 12 billion floating point operations on a 12 TF GCN architecture - there is no way to make them work on anything less than a 12 TF RDNA architecture. Because a TF is a TF.
The price debate is probably not why sony is waiting for a reveal. They could just reveal the design, specs and the controller first. Then announce the price at another event or state of play. Tommorow is also the 25th anniversary of playstation. They might announce something tommorow.

I agree with this, and I've stated it before. When SIE's new CEO Jim Ryan said that Sony's priority for this gen is to have the large PS4 base to transition to the PS5 "at a scale and pace that we haven't seen." You need two things for that to happen; Launch with exclusives that gamers want to buy day-1, and launch at an affordable price ($400 -$449) on a "powerful" system and eat the $200 -$300 BOM. I just don't see Sony eating that kind of BOM given all the statements they have made so far.
As for the Sony announcing the PS5's specs. I don't think that is going to happen. They only way that I see us finding out the PS5's specs is after launch where others will do a tech comparison with the XSX or a PS5 breakdown.

Anybody that isn't five knows that any leak that includes a price tag is just a bunch of wishful thinking. Price gets set when you have produced your first retail units in a test run, when you actually know what it will cost you and how much of a loss you are willing to take. Normally you shouldn't need Sony to say that to remember that.

Gave the Japanese article (translated of course) a light read-through, and saw where the 13.8 claim is coming from:
Bolded part is pertinent, because we already know Radeon VII is a GCN architecture card. So what is the article referring to architecture-wise with this statement? If they weren't specifying an architectural translation, why not just say "around 13.8 TFLOPS, similar to Radeon VII"? Which at least would specify moreso if they were speaking in terms of a raw numerical comparison or in giving a reference to the GPU performance comparative to a different architecture's GPU.
The wording implies the latter, so it'd seem like the article is suggesting an upper limit of 10.75TF Navi, which would perform comparable to a 13.8TF Radeon VII. Which is an interesting way to look at it, because that would also implicitly go along with the Github and GPU benchmarks testing Oberon, and the ResetEra graphic showing more CUs enabled (around 48 total IIRC), AND the similar scheme in regression testing between PS5 and PS4 Pro where a chunk of CUs were disabled since they weren't needed for the tests (such as the RT block(s)).
A fair way to look at it IMHO; similarly people have been speculating whether or not MS's "2x power of X" claim actually specified a flush 2x increase (Moore's Law method) or whether they were specifying architecture (which would mean actual performance around 9TF Navi - 10.xTF Navi). When looking at pricing for similar 9TF-10TF Navi cards on the market (even taking out the markup and other components like memory, and even factoring in bulk quantity orders of millions), I can see how some are still considering these systems could be closer to, say, somewhat above a 5700XT in raw performance (but with RT and some other Big Navi features integrated into them) to hit respectable MSRP prices ($399, $499 maximum).
OTOH, we've also had a chance to see the XSX APU and measurements done by those skilled on these kind of things drawing up little over 400mm2. Which would easily leave room for 9-10TF worth of Navi CUs and in actuality, likely at least up to 12TF of such (most seem to agree an APU that size would be able to fit at least 60 CUs (4 disabled) at 7nm).
So basically, the article isn't telling us anything new xD. We're still looking at a range of:

You forget the other statements also made last year about PS5 being niche, premium and for the hardcore lol They are trying for a middle ground. I believe they'll eat up to a 100 loss but nowhere near ps3 180 loss per console. Thy learned their lesson, however thy didn't have subscription money to fall back on then either.

Sony already have a 'Gamepass', it's called Now. And yes, I think it will play a major part on their next gen strategy, but don't just expect their games to release in the service day and date.

Grandmas and Grandpas are not going to shell out $1000 + games and accessories for little Jims' PS5 for Christmas. Apple may sell a lot of $1000 iPhones. But that demographic is different from the PS5's. All $1000 iphone owners may be willing to purchase a $1000 PS5, but 99% of the potential PS5 owners wouldn't want to have to pay $1000 for a PS5 nor do they want a $1000 iPhone IMO.

People need to never forget that console manufacturers pay for wafers + licensing fees to AMD. The cost of consumer GPUs (where all cards are currently sold at significatnly higher profit margins than in the past) has nothing to do with the cost of the APU in the consoles. I expect both consoles are somewhere between big navi and small navi (medium navi LOL). The price of a 5700xt is irrelevant, a lot of profit there for both AMD and the board manufacturer.

No I remember that statement. That statement was made before Phil Spencer started releasing statements insinuating that the next Xbox will be 12 tfps, showing off the size of the chip, etc. Afterwards, Sony moved away from the "Premium and hardcore" narrative. In fact, Sony never mentioned it again. They moved on to the "our number 1 priority for next-gen is to have an adoption rate at a scale and pace that we have never seen before...." narrative.

No idea whats taking so long. I suspect games are getting more and more complex with SSDs and CPUs completely changing the way games are designed, and devs are struggling to get game demos ready. you would think devs who have been working on next gen games since 2017-2018 should have something to show by now but apparently not. i wouldnt be surprised if we launch with zero next gen only games. everything is going to get delayed.

In all seriousness, given the state of the technology right now and trying to figure on prices, even though MS and Sony would get way better pricing...I will be shocked if either box is much over 10TF. Even that would be huge, especially given the RDNA technology. So my expectations are realistically in the 9-10 range. I expect to see 4k gaming with SOME games at 60fps but others at 30 with all the bells and whistles turned on graphically. That will be fine and larger improvements in functionality and UI..games loading super fast, etc. will make that feel like a BIG leap. At least to me.
IF any of these boxes are more powerful than the 9-10 range and are also not $700-800 boxes or more, I will be SHOCKED. Pleasantly shocked, but still shocked. Time will tell and we all will know..............'soon!'

100% true. Even so, assuming a lobbing off of $100 for RAM and $100 for the board (very broadly speaking; RAM could be slightly more and the board would be less), on a $350 card that's still $150 left.
In all we can speculate MS and Sony are paying at least somewhere in the range of $75-$90 for the GPU. However it could be slightly higher than that. IIRC some breakdowns for PS4 and XBO (or was it the Pro and X?) showed around $65 or slightly above for their GPUs.

I think your reading too much into things. It wasnt Ryan who made tht statement but someone else in Sony and multiple messages were being made. I don't think thy moved away from it, they said it and tht was all tht needed to be said from tht Sony head.
The adoption rate comes from the bc push thy are making which even includes psvr.

There's room for a small group of early adopters at that price and nothing else. Not to mention consumer alienation if your launch at $600+ and then drop the price within a 12 month timeframe. Product suicide.
