Of course people like to have a choice, but the direction is clear. Physical discs for console are going to die too sooner or later, no matter how much you or me would hate it.

But i didn't want to argue on digital games in the first place. Nobody knows if a Lockhart is coming and nobody knows whether it will have a drive or not. My point was, that a Lockhart that undercuts the PS5 by let us say 100 bucks will attract many casual gamers, because the console price is the main buying reason for casuals when the gen starts. Later the price becomes less important, then it's most important what console the friends have and they go after that. That's why the starting price is so important, it defines the whole gen.

- You can trade in games
- You can borrow games
- You always have a disc so you won't get digitally locked out if the dev shuts down servers, so you can play offline
- I'm a collector. Discs and cases look good on a shelf

Also, MS and Sony take their usual 30% cut from digital sales too. Retailers selling discs I don't even think make 30% off your $60 purchase. I think it's more like 20-25%. So by funneling your purchases to MS and Sony, you are basically allowing them to hoard the profits instead of giving stores a break and keeping them open.

Console price is a factor, but not main one or even the most important. There are several other factors as well, including game library, the price of the games themselves, etc.

Why would a prospective casual gamer be in rush to replace a console they just bought 2 years ago? So they can move onto a $299 console with a limited library filled with full price games along with no longer having the option to buy games on disc? You know, the AAA games you previously listed where 75% of the sales (according to your own sources) are physical?

What are they gonna do with their PS4/XB1 they bought in 2018 that'll still play the latest COD/FIFA for years to come? Put it in the trash?

I was responding to a post claiming that it was "obvious" PS5 had more.
I miss that "obvious' as figures do not add up.

In fact, going with a GPU that is 12-16% behind 2080, is pretty adequate. It is Microsoft who went bananas in my books.

That being said:
Chances of me buying XSeX, (despite its cool name, chuckle) over PS5, just because of possible perf advantage are close to zero.
Chances of me buying XSeX over PS5, because the latter is too loud are at around 10%.
The most likely scenario, it looks, would be to patiently wait for node shrink-ed version.

First time commenting on here and what better way to comment then to comment about blueisviolet. That MF which im sure hes lurking thru all the forums tries to use any info without any context and trace it to PS5. And when you confront him about it on twitter, he deletes or blocks you. The fool thinks base xbox has RT cores. He thinks XSX (AMD SOC) has Tensor RT cores and a bunch more asinine posts. This might sound funny, but shops here encountered that and most sell pre-release by like days or a week or some even more and some go the extra mile and sell that $60 game at $45-50! Which pretty damn good, just don't know how they make it here this far away, I think they get them cheaper for future discounts but they seem to start with a discount!

I remember The Division being released 3 weeks before the official release date at $44!!!

75% of 20% is still nothing compared to the 80, isn't it? And more digital games on PS4 averall says it all. Like i said, i really don't want to argue about digital games since that was not my point, it was that casuals go for the price at the start of a gen.

What do you always want with your 2 years? I really don't get that and Ps Now, Game Pass and cheap PS4/One games thanks to BC pretty much eliminate the library argment. I have a huge Xbox library but i don't care, i would switch to PS5 in a minute if it has significantly more power.

This comment would be the most logical to understand that Sony has not yet presented the PS5 and MS not figures yet. If PS5 were 9 Tflops MS would have already given figures, and if PS5 were 9 Tflops there is no way to upload the clocks to match MS, 3 Tflops would be too much difference.

I'm 100% digital since 2015. I use a US account as some games are not allowed in some markets like GTA5, previous God of War games, Mass Effect: Andromeda to name some. US, UK gift cards are found nearly everywhere here along with local Omani ones, and even UAE and KSA, some here buy from local PS store or shops for Arabic dialogue like in Spider-man, The Division 1+2, Uncharted 4, Assassin's Creed games as they have a Ubisoft HQ in Abu Dhabi now, FIFA + PES games.

I hope this brings some light on some parts of the equation.

I think physical games will eventually cease to exist, but I don't see that happening until next-gen.

About retail games and share:

Friend had gaming store and talked openly to me about physical games

It was basically 5-10€ profit before taxes for one 69€ game.

Like he had to pay 50-60€ / game. Maybe big dealers get better deals but this was the case 2-3y ago.

He usually sold games with zero profit to me, 50-55€.

To pay one months rent (600-800€ i think) he needed to sell 100-200 new games.

And he didnt sell that even close. So he ended his busines before losses were too much

Also I still buy physical because unless it's something I wanna replay every so often like an uncharted or a ratchet or an infamous or something I sell it on eBay plus the prices go down WAY faster. I urge all arcade racing fans to play Wreckfest. Bought it yesterday on PS4. It's addictive, beautiful and great fun. THQ Nordic nailed it. Flatout/Destruction Derby on steroids.

that game is weird, it is locked at 30fps even on One X... even tho it has a native 4k mode and a 1080p mode?!?!? wtf is up with that? the game already runs at a very very stable 30fps at the native 4k mode. very weird.
and even on PS4pro there are 2 modes, a native 1080p mode when your Pro is set to 1080p with no super sampling, and a ceckerboard 1800p mode when you set your Pro to 4K... but here aswell, both modes are pretty much a locked 30fps.
apparently the 1080p mode on One X at least renders alpha effects at full resolution... but the 4K mode would render them at the same resolution as the 1080p mode (alpha effects are rendered at 1/4 resolution in all versions except on One X when set to 1080p, so 1/4 of 4K = 1080p. meaning even if you play on a 1080p screen the 4K mode gives you better AA and the same resolution for alpha effects as the 1080p mode)

It's weird indeed! I have to say the game struggles on my PS4 slim. Drops below 30 on several occasions I believe. Still amazing fun. I am almost ecstatic about it. And for €26 on sale!

yeah but on Pro and One X they run pretty much flawlessly in their high resolution modes (1800cb and 2160p respectively) and yet both have 1080p modes... on One X it is even an in game option. on Pro it is dependent on your System settings and games did that before (lower resolution for no reason on Pro) like the AC Ezio Collection.
but here it is extra weird as the One X has an in game toggle for a mode that does literally nothing but making the game look worse... like wut? why not just go and name the option "WANT MORE STAIR-STEPPING? - Yes/No"
