Wily's Fort
-Can't get a good look at the stage layout in any picture or video yet.
Yes you can.

It's a flat stage with those moving platforms from Crash Man's stage periodically showing up. Also looks like retractable spikes are on the far left and right, but since they never come out, I could just be reading too much into the pattern on the floor.

Oh! Forgot about that part of the video. Was paying too much attention to Mega Man.
Really solid analysis.
I know, right?

Pac-Man? Oh man, oh man. I hate bragging and all but...

Oh man, wasn't there someone who told me that Pac-Man had no chance and Namco doesn't care at all about him? Hmmmmmmmmmmm?

does megaman have a shoryuken?

also best version of OG megaman.

Most of the time he is super tall and lank with weird tastunoko limbs. I am glad they made him tiny

As others have said, he used it in the Marvel vs. Capcom series games and in Power Battle. He also used it in the fighting game hidden in Mega Man 7. X has also used the shoryuken in Mega Man X2 and X8, and Zero also used it in X8. A boss from X4 was pretty much a shoto-clone, for that matter. The dragon punch has quite a history in the series, so it is no surprise that it is showing up in Super Smash Bros.

What really surprises me about Mega Man is that apparently his Mega Buster attacks are A attacks. His only punching move is going to be the shoryuken, and I don't even know if that is going to be an A or a B move.

I've definitely been loving what I've seen of the new Smash so far, including all of the new characters. Seems they've even tweaked Bowser for the better, again. :)

Sakurai mentioned in a video that Samus' design was based on Other M's. That makes me kinda worried for the inevitable Ridley reveal. Haha!

He won't be in this game.

I hope Snake makes it back into the game. I don't want Kojima to back off on the craziness of Metal Gear with their new, serious direction they wanna take MGSV. Sonic looks to be a definite lock with the continuing Mario & Sonic series and Lost World.

What do guys think about the music?

Because I fucking love it. The trailer theme (main theme?) sounds so Kirby Air Rideish and is so many steps above the Brawl theme it's crazy.

And that Wily theme. At first I was opposed to the idea of Mega Man because I thought his character would be inspired by a cocktail of everything he's ever done (like what people wanted for Pacman), but seeing that he's really only inspired by the NES games and has a lot of effort put into his mechanic, I can't complain at all.

I'd take less characters than Brawl if it meant each one was insanely fleshed out with dedicated game modes and stuff.

I wanted to hate the Wii Fit Trainer when I heard about her but then when I saw the trailer I was sold. Looks great.

I thought the Audio was great. The music seemed like a step up in quality.

As serious as MGS V looks right now, I have no doubt that somewhere in it is something as silly as the Ape Escape sub-game from MGS 3 or throwing the Solar Gun into MGS 4. I am pretty confident that Snake will be back for more Smash Bros. He fits in too well.

If he doesn't, then I hope his now open Konami character slot goes to Simon Belmont, just to complete the Captain N team (and because Castlevania is an awesome series with a long history with Nintendo). If that doesn't work, we can split the difference and go for Solar Boy Django (Mega Man can use a familiar friend around).

I stayed up for a couple of hours after the reveal last night, pouring through the video and the screenshots and working out what stages were in, the changes to the characters, whatever. I couldn't get the post up on GAF, so I went to bed, and wake up to not only all those things confirmed, but fucking Wii Fit Girl? This is amazing. Like Sakurai mentions, nobody saw it coming. Its so out there.

I'm taking the rumours with a grain of salt - Writing 'oh, see, we already knew about this' is the easiest thing to do, but Little Mac, Pacman and Mii would all be good additions. And more than that, if they're getting revealed soon, then I feel pretty confident there's a pretty damn large stable of newcomers in this game, because they haven't even touched upon the more 'obvious' choices, and you'd think they'd want to keep some surprise characters for later.

Pumped, pumped, pumped.

Though personally, I feel really confident that this is Little Mac's stage.

I just noticed that the ring has a Smash symbol on it, as opposed to something Punch Out themed, so now I am a bit less confident. Still think playable Little Mac is happening though.

We gotta remember Sakurai very intentionally chose a boxing ring. He has knowledge of the entire library of Nintendo franchises and their history. He even remembered enough to put Little Mac in as an assist trophy in Brawl. He's not scraping the bottom of the barrel or anything to include Little Mac.

He has a pretty solid chance of being in, I dunno why anyone would say otherwise.

Unless I'm misreading that leak, I'm not sure how somebody could correctly guess the Wii Fit Trainer of all things alongside the somewhat more logical Mega Man and AC Villager. Ergo, Mac, Pac-Man and Mii are probably also happening at some point today or later in the wekk.

Also while I could tell that Mario/Mega Man demo was faster than Brawl, I couldn't really make too much else out competitively-speaking. Somebody more versed/less-apathetic about this sort of thing care to comment on how it looked gameplay wise?

It may be faster but it don't have hitstun, just exactly same as Brawl. And still have air dodge (which is same as brawl)

Wii Fit Trainer's gameplay looked to be pretty quick.

A Pretty Panda

fuckin' called it, man
Honestly not surprised the Wii Fit lady is in there. Maybe because they joked about that on Retronauts however many years ago and I said "you know what they'd probably actually do that"

This one which claims Mac, Pac-Man and Mii are the next three characters to get revealed. Their proof is that they knew about the Wii Fit Trainer alongside AC Villager and Mega Man before anyone else, though I guess there's nothing stopping them from lying about knowing that info beforehand.
It's one thing to lie way in advance of E3, it's another thing to lie about something that could be proven false at any moment.

I think it probably is true considering the person who posted that same info on GAF on the ninth.

I can't say I'm interested in a Mii or Pac-Man, but I am stoked for Little Mac (assuming that this is true).

Feels like the Mii and the Wii Fit trainer are going to feel incredibly out of place, really bad additions in my opinion. The entire point of the franchise was to allow you to have all of your favourite characters fighting it out in one place, neither of these things are characters.

What do you mean Wii Fit Trainer "looks out of place"? What can be out of place in a game in which we got a cartoon plumber fighting an electric rat, a cybersuited mercenary and a fantasy hero?

Also, Pikachu and Link aren't "characters" either. Pikachu is a generic pet (just with superpowers) and Link is a blank avatar with literally no personality in order to make you feel more immersed into the game (which is the main reason Link's name is Link, he is a link between player and game).

I think you're missing the point. The Wii fit trainer is an avatar of a generic human being, deliberately designed to have no distinguishing features. It has no story, no personality, no character. Of all the video game characters they could have chosen to put in, they chose one that a) nobody wants and b) nobody has any attachment to.

People have an attachment to Link and Pikachu, they both have distinctive features and characteristics and have a back story, if you are honestly going to try to make a pseudo psychological argument for why Link is as little of a character as the Wii fit trainer, then I'm just going to assume you have no investment either way and are merely arguing the point to be deliberately obtuse; and because nobody else will, because everyone knows it's a ridiculous addition to the roster.

Your opinion is not a fact, please do not handle it as such. And you are not the only person in the world, or the only person Nintendo caters to.

And from what I can tell generally, a LOT of people seem to embrace her. More so than ROB.
Might it be because they think she's a genuinely great inclusion or to piss off others who cry about a character that "nobody wants" being included. Or both, in my case.

She is a character based on an aspect we haven't seen yet in Smash (health/fitness/sports), she's an avatar from a game that sold over 20 million units, and she fits really well into the mold of the other characters. Saying she is "out of place" is stupid.

Also Miis are characters. Wii Sports and Resort even have returning Miis and then there's everyone's waifu Nikki from SwapNote.

Mr. Game and Watch isn't a character. He is an ensemble of various other characters. Are you going to argue he doesn't belong?

I have zero problem with the Wii Fit Trainer because she's such a crazy choice, but Miis sound kind of boring to me. They're an "expected" choice and I don't feel like they would have a very interesting fighting style. Plus, at least the trainer looks more distinctive than they do.

Also she's bringing yoga pants into smash, so that's a plus.

And I really hope Snake doesn't get cut. More than Mewtwo not making it, I really would be kinda sad to lose Snake. He was just so hilariously zany with the rest of the cast. Plus I mean, come on: Mario vs Snake vs Sonic vs Mega Man? What more could I want.

Oh, and obligatory wish that FF1's Red Warrior of Light would get in.

She is a character "avatar" much like ROB and G&W. She is more comparable to those than Link or Pikachu. Or are you going to tell me that ROB and G&W aren't characters either?

Also, technically she is actually defined. I realized people assumed she is the ones shown during loading screen, but she isn't. She's an actual trainer - she isn't representing a generic human being but the actual trainer in the Wii Fit stuff.

I'm sorry, but none of these arguments, however valid and well constructed are not going to make her any less of a boring, disappointing inclusion in my eyes, and probably many other peoples'.

It just feels like they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel by choosing a character that is so incredibly dull and lifeless.

No R.O.B and Game and Watch are not technically characters and I found them pretty boring inclusions also.

Why do you think people are so excited that Mega Man is included? It's not because 'oh that's interesting' or 'who would have thought he would be in the next one!?' it's because people want to see that character, they want to play that character and they consider him to be noteworthy in video game culture. These are the characters they should be adding.

Admittedly, this argument has a lot of holes, given that I enjoyed playing Lucario and he was fairly unexceptional, but overall I think the point stands as valid.

-Also I'd like to state for the record that I never said I was the only one with an opinion; I didn't realise me having one automatically meant I was declaring everyone else's obsolete, I'm merely putting the argument forward.

Eh. Saying:

The entire point of the franchise was to allow you to have all of your favourite characters fighting it out in one place, neither of these things are characters.

Comes across as stating it as fact, especially as you emphasis characters at the end.

When really the only point of Smash is bring the world of Nintendo together. They don't have to be characters or even fighters (see all the other aspects of Smash like items, stages music etc).

And I can't believe you called Mr.G&W boring. He was one of the most genius characters in the whole series.

How do people feel about Nintendo using the Chibi NES Megaman instead of the slightly taller and skinnier Megaman from Marvel Vs. Capcom and PS1/Sega Saturn era?

My opinion? It's an awesome choice.
