I don't get it either. I'll probably take less than 5 "meaingful" pictures over the course of a year with my phone. I took around 200 total pictures with my current phone, over two years. And almost every one has been more of a note than something where I actually care about picture quality.

It's really all about something being up to par with its competitors. The N4's camera was significantly behind the S3 or iPhone 5's cameras.. hell, I think even the iPhone 4 took better photos than the N4.
You wouldn't imagine how frustrating it is to wait 2-3 seconds (after you hit the button) for your camera to focus properly before it actually takes the photo... and god help you if you don't keep a steady hand while it's doing that. Drove me insane with the N4.

More like this is why I hate buying stuff online. See if it was just in store I could go there and get a new one. With online you have to send it in, wait for them to do whatever, then wait to get another one.

There are a significant amount pf people that solely use smartphone cameras.
The hardware here is plenty capable, google's software and algorithms are not up to par. The slow focusing is not a good thing and hopefully gets fixed soon.

Yeah. I mean their Nexus 5 commercial is all about weddings and capturing moments. A fast, good camera is one of the best things you can have.
In this day in age of Instagram and Twitter, many people take tons of pictures. So at the very least, a responsive camera is a plus. If the camera app takes forever to load up and then even longer to shoot a proper picture, the phone will feel sluggish...Even if everything else on the phone runs at lighting speeds.

Unfortunantly yes, installed the nexus 5 apk on my n4 and exchange is broken.
I guess the sluggishness is probably more of the issue with it. I've never noticed the issue too much because I've never had to quickly pull out my phone and snap a picture fast.

Oh no it isn't you. My wife frequently wants to throw her N4 in the nearest garbage can when she attempts to take pictures with it.

Even without HDR, it trumps the N4 by a significant margin. The N4 one almost looks like a Monet painting.

I don't think you need any additional app. At least on my GNex tethering is supported with stock Android.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever owned a phone with a really good, fast camera. The n4 camera is so sluggish. It took a while for me to always keep my phone still for an extra second or two after I heard the click. The camera was so slow if I moved it too quickly after I would screw up the photo.
You can turn it off (but only by turning off the feature itself)
I can even find a way to turn it on, is it not available in the UK or something?
But I just got it
I probably will. It'll drive me crazy otherwise. I just don't want to wait another month for a replacement.

Even if I don't pay for a tethering plan? Mywi didn't require a separate payment plan from AT&T. I don't use it enough to justify paying for it every month. Like I said, I only used it like 4 times the past year during emergencies.
I think the closer they get to it, the more reviewers will expect it. At half the price I don't think its reasonable to expect them to match $700 phones on every metric. But every year they have made the Nexus phones closer and closer to exactly that. The screens get better, the SoC's get high end, the carrier compatibility grows, LTE gets added, and more and more.
The N5 is a stones throw away from straight up bleeding edge, and they closer they manage to get, the more they will be criticized for every corner cut to hit that $350 price. I would kill to see other OEM's held to that standard. Can you imagine seeing a phone docked major points because while its screen was brighter, 15 nits isn't worth the $300 over a N5? People would lose their minds.
Doesn't matter, the OS does it at its core. You can tether, period. However, Good luck if your Phone provider figures out that you are tethering and not paying them for it. They may go apeshit on you. But they cannot stop you from doing it. The phone will do it with a mere toggle in the options.

Anyone else with the phone having a PC recognize the N5? Can't seem to get the phone to pop up in My Computer (using w7 x64), had to transfer my wallpapers and ringtones via a wireless app

This never works for me, didn't work today with my Nexus 5 either.
Probably something to do with multiple accounts, maybe.

As far as I know, you get to keep your phone until they send your replacement.. then you put your phone in the replacement box and send it back off to them. The N4s had their share of issues on launch as well, and I thiiiiinkk that's how it was handled.

So, I think the main difference between white & black is the black back has a more rubbery feel to it. The NEXUS engraving is much more pronounced in the black one if you run your hand over it than the white one.
To me both look like premium models, I can't really see where one looks more premium than the other.
The main question I would ask yourself is whether you want a phone that is all black or white back/black front.
I went with the white one for now. The white mic actually looks nice in front, makes it stand out. The contrasting colors will make it stand out in public too.

I love the hardware, I was not prepared for how light it feels.
Hangouts/SMS implementation is really terrible and the camera app is no great shakes either. Google really need to make these two things a priority as they badly let down the whole package. Everything else is great.

Yeah, it's cheap, but it's not cheap compared to on-contract phones, even though they're heavily subsidized and end up costing twice as much when all is said and done.

Speaker test done.
Speaker test for me is whether I can hear youtube music in the shower while the phone sits on the sink in the bathroom.

N5 - I could listen to it, but not as loud as HTC One. A big big big improvement over the N4 speaker. Will know more as I do conference calls this week on it.
