Whats your trick?

Are you on stock? Rooted? Google Now? Location?

I'm on stock. No root. Google Now & OK Google activated. Location on High Accuracy. The only thing I turned off was the adaptive brightness and I lowered the screen brightness to about 25%.

Moderate use: texting, twitter, web browsing (using JSwarts Browser), Youtube, a couple of calls, and music streaming via Play Music app. I do realize that my moderate use might be someone's light usage, of course.

I never fiddled with the phone much after updating to 6.0.1. Initially, Google Play Services was eating a lot of juice, but I gave the phone a few days to settle down. Now, everything is peachy.

Managed to drop mine directly in to a dog water bowl during the holiday. It was restarting over and over about 10 seconds after it fully booted until I found out I needed to leave it off. Turned it on the next morning and no problems since then so far. It's been a couple days now so am I probably in the clear?
How would anyone know

How does this phone compare to the S6? (same price right now for unlocked).
I currently have a 4.3" phone, and imagine 5.7" is going to be too big for me. I'm not aware of any stores that stock them (it'd be nice to compare them - I do like how slim the bezel is on the S6). The camera in the S6 is better too, right?

Verizon is becoming more and more of a pain in my asshole, so I'm seriously considering switching to Google Fi, which means I'll probably get this phone. I'm afraid it might be too big, but the features are oh so tempting.

Is my search ability crap, or do we not have a Google Fi thread on GAF?

You can try holding the iPhone 6S Plus as it has pretty much the same dimensions as the 6P. My previous phone was a Nexus 4 @ 4.7" so upgrading to the 6P was initially intimidating, but I've quickly gotten used to the size increase. It'll definitely be harder to use the phone one handed but you can workaround it in most cases (placing homescreen icons nearer your thumb for example).

I believe the camera is on par with the 6S, in some instances it might be even better, but you'll definitely have to do some research and judge for yourself. There are plenty of sites with photo comparisons given that they were the two android juggernauts of 2015. The stock Google camera app is rather barebones so you'll have to get a manual photo app from the Play store if you want more control.

If you want stock Android, then 6P no contest. I've never used TouchWiz but I've heard mostly bad things about its performance, which apparently degrades substantially as time goes on.

If you care about durability then the S6 wins out imo - the aluminium on the 6P is easily scuffed and the body can be bent much easier than the S6. Both use Gorilla Glass 4. If you're generally careful with your phones though (using a case, don't put into tight jean pockets, etc) then it's a non-issue. I've no issues with mine but I've read plenty of reports of slight bends and then there's that video...

My 6P have arrived, damn good build.

So, need advise on some app since I'm new to Andriod. Recommend video player with DLNA support and podcast app with itune library? Or any must have App on andriod.

I'm not sure what you're requesting here, but Pocket Casts is a fantastic podcast app. Other must-haves for me are SwiftKey, Nova Launcher (spring for the paid upgrade, it's worth it), and Event Flow Calendar Widget. In recent weeks I have grown to love Tapet for material design-y randomly generated wallpapers. Apart from those, pretty much everything else I use with any regularity is a Google app.

Here are some apps that I highly recommend:

  • Backdrops - best wallpaper app
  • Action Launcher 3 - best launcher (IMO). Nova is good too.
  • Relay for Reddit - best Reddit app
  • Chrome Beta - I find this to be better than the stable build in terms of performance and features
  • Shuttle - Great music player with clean design
  • Adguard - For ad-blocking without root. This isn't on the Play Store, so just Google it.
  • Flud - Torrent Client
  • Imgur - For uploading sharing images via URL quickly
  • inKa File Manager - My preferred file manager app, but there are plenty of other solid choices.
  • TinyTunes - For downloading music. Not on the Play Store.
  • Google Opinion Rewards - Answer short surveys every few days and rack up Google Play credit. It adds up really quickly, trust me.
  • Zedge - Good for downloading wallpapers, ringtones, notification sounds... etc.
That's about it for my general recommendations. Anything else would be specific to how you use the phone and what kinds of services you're tapped into.

The advantages the S6 has are wireless charging, size (since you indicated 5.7 may be too big), and Samsung Pay with MST.

Everything else goes in the 6P's favor.

I've thought about switching to the 6P, but I love my wireless charging and Samsung Pay. I could probably give up Samsung Pay, but wireless charging is hard to give up once you're used to it. But, that build quality and stock Android on the 6P is tempting.

I am so freaking tired of my headphones not working properly. When are they going to fix the Bluetooth volume issue?

Have they even addressed it yet?

I use Stitcher for podcasts and Swype as my keyboard.

EDIT: I got Pocket Casts, and it's better than Stitcher. I'll probably switch.

I believe its hardware related and would not expect a fix. I think I read the aux output is only like 0.5v or something, really low and the difference between my 6p and s4 is noticeable.

Not sure about the iTunes Library, but Pocketcasts is the greatest podcast app ever. Sounds like you can import your iTunes library into Pocketcast as an OPML file, but I've never tried it.

I've got an issue where the volume on my media remains low after a notification comes in (mostly during Bluetooth palyback). What gives?

There must be a way to change or take screen shots differently?!

Power + VolDown is just not convenient, at all!
Hold home button. Hit share button on bottom left. It's better because it doesn't include notification bar. But it doesn't save, either.

I guess this is Android in general but I just figured out I can two finger swipe down to access the brightness control so I don't have to swipe down twice from the status bar thing.

What other gestures am I missing out on?

Would you really use a new launcher over stock Google? I've debated it before.

I prefer Nova over stock Google. I like being able to flip pages on my bottom icon bar, and I really like being able to import/export settings. Not having Google Now on the left is not a big deal to me, since I just put a widget there.

When is tmobile gunna add this phone my note 3 is becoming shit and I really don't wanna stick with samsung. D:

I, based on my usage time with this phone so far, actually believe that it performs even better and faster with sRGB mode turned off, rather than when it's on. I saw some hitches and minor hiccups in spots that are now completely absent now that I've gone back to the non-SRGB mode. Or maybe it's just a coincidence, but I do notice a very clear difference.

I find Nexus Imprint to be kinda spotty. It stopped recognizing my finger so I had to delete my fingerprints and make a new one for it to register again.

No issue here on 6P or 5X.

Perhaps it was because I made a second imprint using my left index finger on top of my right index? I assumed you could have more than one finger register but perhaps this is not the case.
What? Did you use more than one finger on one imprint profile? If so, sounds like a dumb idea so I'm going to say yes, there's your problem. New profile for new finger.

Thanks for all the recommendation, most of them pretty useful!
It's really eye opening moving from IOS to Andriod, lots of customization and sometimes work like a PC. Loving the phone so far.

I have both of my index fingers as well as both of my middle fingers without any issue.

Might just be your mind playing tricks on you. sRGB mode should have no bearing on performance at all. It's just a different color range.

Has any one tried the always on google now thing where you can give the phone instructions when the screen is off?

How does this impact battery? I would assume some impact but how much?

I didn't notice any difference in battery life at all after turning it on. I used it for about a week with it off and a week with it on thus far. Go ahead and enable it.

I forgot all about it and just turned it on, but it looks like it won't be especially useful since my screen lock is enabled. It recognized my voice just fine, but after processing my search, it prompted me to unlock the phone. If I have to do that anyway, there's no point in leaving the always-on voice detection on.

Don't have the 6P yet, but this is really annoying on the N6. They should make it so you can't access history/other personal info without unlocking but can still search, like how accessing the camera from the lock screen only lets you view pictures from that session.

You can set voice to unlock the phone in the Google Now voice settings menu.
